According to id softworks, when someone plays Rage on Xbox 360 they will not need to install all 3 disks at once in order to run the game.

"I see; thanks for that clarification. So there is the widely-publicized 22GB install for the 360 version of the game...

Yes, and there is a misconception about that.

Ah, do you want to clear up the misconception and then we'll move forward? Because that might answer the question I was about to ask.
We were under the impression that it was all or nothing, that you had to install all three discs, but that is not the case. You only need to install the disc that you happen to be playing. So if you're limited on space... I mean really, it's a subjective thing you know... You get more texture paging if you don't install it. Most people, they don't care two jiffy's about that. The game doesn't load any faster or anything, you just get less texture paging with installed discs. If you don't care about that, don't install it. But if you want your textures when you want them, but you only have like 10GB free, just install the content from the disc you're currently playing on. So you don't have to do all 22.

Ok, good. So the question that I had was, let's say I do decide to install all 22GB of data onto my hard drive, is it still the case that if I am on disc 2 content I will have to put disc 2 into my 360 or if you have disc one in the drive and have all three discs installed do you not have to swap those discs out as you go?

You'll have to change the discs out as you go."

So, while there will be disc-swapping, 360 owners with small hard drives will not be without the option to install the game.At 22 GBs total, you can expect each install to be anywhere from 7-9 Gigabytes.

Yeah, I don't think anyone actually thought you would have to install all three discs at the same time to play the data on disc 1. That makes no sense.

First of all (just to start pointing out your flaws  ) I believe it shoud read "The misconception about the 360 version of RAGE"
But enough with the semantics...

This is cool, but I still think I might be going with the PC version here - depending on how well I maybe able to run it. If it is pretty good than I just might dive into the PC version and hope nothing weird starts happening.

That's cool for 360 owners, I expected them to do something like this anyway. But be prepared for alot of Sony fanboys to jump in this thread and start yelling "ha ha 3 discs" or "ha ha our version is the superior one" or something else stupid. Both versions will be THE SAME! I don't know why people can't accept that multiplats are the same...

Wait.. so even if you do the full 22gb install, you have to swap between multiple discs? Why? I thought the optional full-installs on 360 games was so you could just play the game off the HDD, and you'd only need a disc in for verification, like with pc games installed off a disc...

Yeah. Less pop-in and such.

So you have to install the discs you aren't currently playing to reduce texture popin or just the one you're currently playing, because thats what I normally do with multi disc games.

Nice, im thinking of also wasting 1000$+ on a computer to do that... or just play it on a PS3 which cost so much less and you'll enjoy all the great exclusives it has to offer a long side it.

Or you can just deal with that fact that the xbox360 will have more games that will need more then one dics.

Not denying that, but this is great news for me, my pc will barely be able to play bf3 on mid settings. Im just not willing to chance my pc with id tech 5. But i have a 60 gig hdd for my 360 so i could have installed the whole thing anyway

Please give me the specs on a gamingcomputer that you can buy for 600-700$ ( or make )

All the people I know with a gaming PC have put over 1000$+(canadian $) into their computer.

No way am i going to waste my time googling the specs of a 700$ PC, but you can do that if you're interested and you can ask people around here aswell, like in the hardware section. If i weren't certain, i wouldn't have wrote it.

Swappin discs isn't as big a deal as some people make it... but swapping discs when you aren't even playing off the disc is just silly.

I hate swapping discs, even for regular games. Luckily on PC most games don't even require the disc to play. Best thing ever, I am much too lazy to get up and grab the CD. Hell for some games I rebought them again on Steam for cheap since I am too lazy to go get them.

Why would all three discs need to be installed to play on any on disc? How many 360 games allow you to install multiple discs and not disc swap anyway?

Swappin discs isn't as big a deal as some people make it... but swapping discs when you aren't even playing off the disc is just silly.

Read the end of the article it will tell u why

You mean this part:

"Now, is that a design-driven decision, or a technology-driven decision?
No, it's a Microsoft decision. Microsoft doesn't want you to sell your disc. Know what I mean? If you install the multiplayer disc and you didn't need to put the disc in to play multiplayer, people would sell the whole game back to the store. Trust me, I'm like you buddy - my Xbox is in the back of the room. But you really don't - you just switch once. I mean you can go back, you can go back and talk to the guy who runs the little balloon, but you don't really need to."

That's silly though. All that's needed is to verify a disc. Their example of people selling the game if they don't need the MP disc to play it from the HDD doesn't explain why you need to swap the discs. Sure, if you installed the MP (I assume that's disc three) and didn't need a disc in, you'd just sell the game... but not if you still needed disc 1. If everybody playing the game from install always needs disc 1, no matter what part of the game they are in, only 1 person can ever be playing the game from install per single copy sold. If you need to have the disc in for the part you are playing, three friends could play the same copy at the same time (provided they were in different parts of the game) by passing discs around. So not only is required disc-swapping when playing installed games silly, it seems like it sctually is counter-intuitive to the reason it is supposedly required.

Or one could realize that installs and disk swapping are for the most part a non-issue unless greatly exaggerated here. One might also understand that "superior" is the game that allows me to play with my friends whether on PS3 or not.

one of the things i most love about my 360 is the ability to install the whole game to the HDD, less texture pop-in, faster loading times and it save wear and tear on the DVD-Rom drive and lowers the 360's heat output considerably, i have a falcon model 360 that's over 3 years old and i put it down to HDD installs.

5-10 minutes per disk depending on the game and the install size, risen, which is only 1.1gb installed only took a minute

Yep it's good for a console to have a feature in place to counter problems only associated with that console.

I'm very curious to see what the game looks like without an installation, because id makes it sound like it'll have ungodly amounts of texture pop up if it isn't installed.

[QUOTE="delta3074"][QUOTE="Lto_thaG"] There's nothing fun about installing a game.Pug-Nasty

one of the things i most love about my 360 is the ability to install the whole game to the HDD, less texture pop-in, faster loading times and it save wear and tear on the DVD-Rom drive and lowers the 360's heat output considerably, i have a falcon model 360 that's over 3 years old and i put it down to HDD installs.

Yep it's good for a console to have a feature in place to counter problems only associated with that console.

Agreed. It is good that a console utilizes a common feature (installs) to overcome a problem within that system.

You are trying too hard.

HeroKen-ii

Or you could just sell those consoles and get a up to date PC to play superior versions of games the way they are meant to be played (looking beautiful). Oh and that's 600 - 700, not 1000$+.

I bet you wanna be starting something, you got to be starting something. So you want to be starting somethin?

Maybeh.

Please give me the specs on a gamingcomputer that you can buy for 600-700$ ( or make )

All the people I know with a gaming PC have put over 1000$+(canadian $) into their computer.

This is true.... I think mine ran me $2200.... thats EVERYTHING.... monitor, ram, gpu, mb, keyboard, win 7 pro, mouse, cpu, pwr supply, tower, speakers.... did i miss anything? Alot of PC gamers want to pretend that buying a pc is just picking up some ram, a gpu, mb and cpu... and ur done.... sry boys.... doesnt work like that. and I bought my stuff off of Newegg and NCIX... built it myself.

I remember when console gamers use to use installing games against the PC, now they love it. Amazing :roll:millerlight89
It's even more funnier when xbox fans were bashing both pc and ps3 gamers for install. Now they either install a game for faster loads of textures or dont install for slower loads of textures lol. WOW must be nice to install a game at a time or swap out discs lol

Please wait while textures are loading, btw please insert disc 2

i never said any one was happy, i just find it funny how the tables are turned. Now they are defending slower texture pops, as if it is okay now.

Noone in this thread is defending that, and out of this thread I've never seen someone defend it either.

a problem no longer asscociated with that console you mean, RROD is a thing of the past, and wear and tear affects all constant angular velocity Disk drives, not just the 360's DVD-rom drive you know, why do you have to turn my comment into a 360 bashing fest i don't know.

Nope there isn't as I'm sure it take a while to install on consoles. Just funny to see the tables turn.

Actually is only like 10 minutes, maaaybe 15, not too bad. and, optional.

All of this sounds like so much of a hassle...I know people like to argue about multiple discs on 360 but this is ridiculous. If I do decide to buy it, I hope the Xbox 720 uses blu-ray

Highly unlikely, hdd is probably going to be utilized more next gen by MS.

ugh, I don't see the reason behind installing games on the 360 if you're just going to use the disc anyway....

"So people don't have to go sharing the Game with everyone!"

Who the heck cares? I can do that with any PC Game.
