Resolution. You can raise all the settings as high as you want, but if you're not running the native res it all looks horrible.
Something I greatly miss CRT's over, I may actually dump my LCD's and get a Sony FW900 to be completely honest.
I would always get a splitting headache after like an hour of using a CRT.
A common mistake I've seen are people not selecting the resolution with the correct refresh rate. For example, there are several options to choose from:
1280x1024 @ 60 Hz, 1280x1024 @ 72 Hz, 1280x1024 @ 85 Hz, etc.
Unfortunately, the selection does not state which is the optimal one. You have to read it from the specs. A higher refresh rate is better, of course. But, choosing a high refresh rate beyond what the screen can handle can break the CRT.
One university I attended a few years ago still used CRT monitors in its study room/library. All were flickering because the IT temp left them all at 60 Hz. I had to make him bring over the manual so we can see what refresh rates the monitors were capable of. They were NEC monitors which were capable of 120 Hz. Nice.
One good thing about an LCD is even 60 Hz is rock solid. Just their nature.
When it comes to CRT monitors, I'll take an NEC over any other brand. Expensive though.
