The Wii U. The Wii U is mostlly just there for Nintendo to put games on, the rest wouldnt be terribly affected if it disappeared. The games are good, and the game has currently the best library of the 3 consoles, but the console is the least notable to the industry at large.

I love this place. If the Xbox was really so insignificant, it wouldn't be posted or talked about so much. Fact is it is significant in the minds of gamers whether the opinion is good or bad, its taking up a lot of mental and online space.

It was meant to be only the gaming aspect of the PC, not every PC in general as most PCs/laptops aren't gaming ones.

Well, you can't get rid of PC because it's uses are usually business/work oriented. If you're talking about gaming on PCs only, then that.

Next would be a toss up between X1 and and WiiU. X1 has few exclusives they bring to the table while WiiU is simply a horrible execution of a gaming platform. Yet they still have the classic exclusives.

You can doubt all you want. The system has sold 45 million units worldwide, continues to sell at a steady clip, and games on the 3DS have proven to perform extremely well.

Really? The system with the biggest audience, most dev support, and most revenue? That just had an $11 million gaming tournament which has now interested ESPN in airing more gaming comps

Still not as well as it should, the 3D failed as a gimmick IMO the DS was better.

Lagging behind? It's in 2nd place overall. Is it selling as well as the PS4 no. But the Xbox One is not outpacing it by much. Am I saying it will always be 2nd? No not at all. Is it right now? Yes it is. Does it have by far the best lineup of the 3 next-gen consoles? Yes it does, and it's not really close.

I'll always invest in Nintendo I've always liked what they offer. Currently have all the latest consoles and really tempted to get a decent PC to game on. I find the bone and four are not delivering ,remakes and indies are better then nothing but c'mon man!

None, tbh. They all need each other for competition, otherwise the industry would be bland and crash.

@sHaDyCuBe321: it's also been out a year longer than the competition and constantly experiences long droughts of no games. Nintendo '98 first party is better than the other two, but that is literally all you get. The fact that it is even comparable sales wise to the other two is definitely telling.

Well the Xbox and PS4 are about equal and only have a handful of exclusives each. They are about equally worthless. If FFXV and MGSV would come out on PC there would be absolutely no reason to own either of them. I voted Xbox.

The Wii U is doing its own thing and has a respectable exclusive library.

PCs are pretty much the most useful things ever created.

There are lots of games that probably wouldn't have seen the light of day if it wasn't for PC. DayZ, League of Legends, Divinity Original Sin, Torchlight 2, Doom (although this made it to consoles it was only most popular on PC). PC will never be "irrelevant" when it comes to gaming.

Zelda, Metroid, Castlevania, Halo, Devil May Cry, Kingdom Hearts, Resident Evil, Final Fantasy,...Just a few games In my opinion that I think would not be as good or even be made at all if it wasn't for Consoles.

Sure Halo made it to PC, but It was really because of the Xbox that it was so successful. Same goes for Devil May Cry, Kingdom Hearts, and Resident Evil, Although Devil May Cry and Resident Evil made their way to PC somehow it was the Popularity of the PS2 that made these games see light. Zelda, Metroid, Castlevania, and Final Fantasy could have been done in the Arcades, but they couldn't possibly be regarded as Legendary Titles if it was for the NES, many probably wouldn't have beaten these games if they weren't Console titles seeing as they all required many game hours to complete something you really couldn't do at an arcade.

But that doesn't discredit my opinion of PC either. Day Z LITERALLY would not have happened if it wasn't for PC, simply because it was a Mod of a currently existing title "Arma 2" you can't mod Arma 2 on consoles. Day Z would never have happened if it wasn't for the modding community. Same goes for League of Legends which is A Derivative DOTA a MOD (again) of Warcraft 3.

So there you have it. It's not that I don't think that Consoles aren't needed or anything (they are become irrelevant by the day though) it's that PC is pretty important in Gaming Spectrum. More so now than ever.

The 3D gimmick is a failure, The 3DS is selling in spite of that.

@Shielder7: To be fair, not many systems is even close to approaching the lifetime sales of the DS. Between that and the Wii has set Nintendo long enough to weather one bad gen for at least two to three years.

Going back to the 3DS, it was a failed gimmick. But it was a gambit that made sense at the time. Handhelds are getting pinched by smartphones even in 2011 and 3D was a huge trend with Avatar smashing box office records.

Truth be told, next gen for Nintendo will either result in them going bankrupt or soaring to heights not even Samsung can ascend to.

So unless X1 can manage 7 more games that are 70+ by December and PS4 can manage 9 more, then it is clear that the Wii U had a better first year game-wise than BOTH. This ridiculous fallacy about Wii U's head start is BS.

Will it continue to be this way? Probably not. The console's lack of multiplats will catch up to it and it will at best be a companion console, but is it the most insignificant? Absolutely not.

Significance is determined by whether or not there are more worthwhile experiences on your console than others. If you own an X1 then the PS4 is the most insignificant. And if you own PS4 then it's the X1 because those consoles will be distinguished by their multiplats.

Wii U has too many quality exclusives to be insignificant.

I won't say any of them are insignificant, but if the X1 were to vanish it wouldn't bother me in the slightest. I only like having MS around to keep Sony on their toes, that's about it.

Judging each system on it's own merits? The VITA and WiiU. They have the least to offer as stand alone systems.

Judging all the systems compared to each other? The VITA and Xbox One. Most of their games are on one or more of the 360, PS3, PS4, PC. You wouldn't really need a VITA or Xbox One to get most of their games.

PC + Sony console + Nintendo handheld is pretty much the glory combo.

Depends. Need to see how the WiiU does in games and sales over the next couple of years. It'll probably trundle on to Gamecube levels (albeit without as many multiplats) but if it's dying there'd be no point prolonging it either.

No, I agree with you. They're gonna put put a successor by Christmas 2016. That's the earliest they can release a new system and still appear to have given the Wii U at least reasonable support, but they don't want this thing around their necks any longer than necessary.
