The most surprisingly dissapointing game this gen

Game that you hyped or expected to be good but only left a bad taste in your mouth.

I'd say No More Heroes. People talked about the game like it was the best game for the wii. Little did I know I had bad collision detection, clunky motorcycle controls, slow paced transportation, somewhat repetitive fighting and bad side missions. I really didn't like it.

What are yours?

GTA4. Highly quality cinematics, with obviously a lot of effort put into it. Great acting and all, but the story was just...plain. And the gameplay isn't neccessarily a large leap.

Resident Evil 5 comes to mind. Great when playing with a friend, but terrible single-player and 'meh' multiplayer

I heard uncharted was the best looking console game, gears has it beat out by a fair margin, not only that the gunplay and AI were pretty weak.

I am trolling because I mentioned your precious uncharted?

Prince of Persia: traded most of the gameplay, along with a good story, to looking pretty.

FarCry 2, Prince of Persia 2008 (good story, Elika and the Price were great but the gameplay was meh. Game felt like it was on auto pilot most of the time), Fable 2 (I fell into into Peter's over exaggeration)

Resistance 2 for the PS3

Fable II for the 360

Aw, dude, I love No More Heroes. It IS my favorite Wii game and it is my GotY for 2008.

But the game that left a really bad taste in my mouth was Gears of War 2. My goodness that game sucks. I just can't play it, and I love the original Gears of War. I played through the campaign six times (twice on each difficulty setting, once alone, once co-op for each difficulty) and I never got bored. I played multiplayer and it was fun too. Then Gears 2 came, and I am honestly surprised that I got through that God-awful campaign even once and that the multiplayer problems have barely been addressed. They told me it was going to have more a story, but the first Gears has SUCH a better story than Gears 2, and Gears 1's story was an afterthought. The instruction manual tells a better story than Gears 2 does, man. The Krill are wiped out? The game doesn't tell you that unless you find a stupid newspaper that informs you "Hey, the Krill are now extinct!"

SPOILERS... MAYBE

None of the characters from the first game die. But every new character introduced dies. Am I supposed to feel bad or something when that happens, BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW THESE CHARACTERS, EPIC. If I knew them maybe I'd feel bad, but they show up and freaking die.

Such a stupid game.

The other game that pisses me off is Call of Duty 4. It got such high reviews. It's the bee's knees apparently. Then I finally play the damn game and it's the same damn Call of Duty we've always played. I don't care if I'm in Eastern Russia, there are still more enemies than you can kill and your damn, expendable teammates do all of the fighting for you. Sure, it's fun, but it's only like four hours long. The multiplayer is pretty fun, but I never got into it. In the end though Call of Duty 4 is just a good game that got too much attention and Gears 2 is just a horrible sequel to one of the best shooters ever.

Hmm...Fallout3, Vegas and Bioshock were dissapointing, but I expected them to be.

A real surprise though was Combat Mission: Shockforce. It was sequel to two AAAs (and additional expension pack scored high AA too) that reolutionized wargames. Shockforce was supposed to bring this into modern era, evolve even further and add good graphics to the mix. Instead we got unplayable mess. And not in it's buggy, but still fun" way like STALKER or even Gothic3, no Shockforce on release day was literaly unplayable.

It took over a year of heavy patching to bring it to playable level and even today the core game doesn't measure up to it's legendary predecessors

Fable 2. Oh god did the people who said the game had an amazing story, and a great ending really f*** up that review big time. It was a glitchfest, had the worst pop-in ever for an open world video game, worst final boss ever, and worse than fable 1 in almost every conceivable level. I mean you fought a giant rock as the final boss. A GIANT ROCK.

Mass Effect, Its not a bad game, I just had very high hopes for it >.> I guess I was hoping for a sucessor for Kotor

this was the final boss. I mean did anyone find it remotely fun to shoot at a giant rock for 30 minutes. Did anyone enjoy this part of the game?

The new Prince of Persia... I swear when I first saw it I couldn't wait for the release. Picked it up day one and it was worse than AC when it came to repitition. I mean the only thing that got me to finish Assassin's Creed was the story line, but the repeititve gameplay almost made me stop half way through. In Prince of Persia's case, it didn't have anything to keep me playing. I never finished Prince of Persia and I doubt I'm going to go back to it anytime soon.

I was also extremely dissapointed with RE5. I loved RE4 but RE5 was like one huge step backwords. Only reason I finished it was because I was playing co-op with a good friend and we were able to have some good laughs and decent fun, but it wasn't worth the $60 price tag. I guess Dead Space just spoiled me and made me have high expectations.

Mass Effect and Bioshock.

I was surprised that Theatre of War, which was supposed to be an apetizer before Shockforce turned out to be much more enjoyable.

Perfect Dark Zero, obviously. Rare sucks now.
