Ok, I'm not trying to troll but I am going to warn everyone, do NOT buy a Xbox Original game off of the Marketplace...

1. Price - Its more expensive, 1200 microsoft points = about $15.00. You could probably get it for $3 off of eBay.

2. Screen - They don't even update the game to fit on HD TV's so if you have one be prepared to watch a little box in the middle of your screen.

3. Performance - Some games off of the marketplace lag since they run off of the hard drive. Only minor frame rate problems.

4. Size - Each game varies from 2gb to 5gb. Unless you have the 120gb hard drive its going to really dent your capacity.

5. Poor execution - You'd expect it to be like the Xbox Live Arcade. Wrong, they didn't change a thing. You get disconnected from Xbox Live, and cant use the guide button. Not only were they lazy enough to not make it compatable for Live, they also dont even make achievements, which are literally the easiest thing to do.

In short, the Xbox Originals feature is extremely poorly executed. They don't even do anything new, your better off buying the game at Gamecrazy, which pretty much KILLS the entire idea.

That's actually kind of sad and a superb example of trying to screw the consumer.

the only points that you made that matter are price and space.

the price : you can buy it on ebay but then u have to wait to get it shipped and it will be used and could have problems with freezing/crashing or not even work.

the size of them : u can redownload them for free at any time so after you beat it just delete it.

everything else about the service is perfectly fine

You can walk into Game Crazy and get it for the same price as eBay, in fact they give them away for free.

And what, screen size or performance ARENT a problem? I personally dont want to watch a slide show of a tiny box in the middle of my TV.

again for used. and i hate used games they always have problems except for my used copy of halo 2.

also u have to worry about keeping the disc and putting it in when u want to play it. i know that the price is alittle high but it does make it alot easier if u want it to be.

IGN wasn't too impressed either....:(

Seems that all the games run worse and are more expensive than just going out and buying a copy of them from your local EB/GS

Heres an idea: check the disc before you buy it... Maybe that would solve your buying scratched games problem.

Thats true, but its still a sloppy service. They announced the idea of the Xbox Originals in early 2006. They took literally an hour to port these. They could have added achievements, they could have made it compatible with the guide button... But they didn't. They didn't because they wont loose money, they dont care about the customer, they care about the money.

Yes but atleast they run good and fit on the screen...and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Super Mario World, and Punchout are better than any Xbox game...still I wish VC games were cheaper.

They are a better value than the VC though. You can get fable for $15, which will keep you occupied for 10 hours...

Or you can buy Bonks Adventure for $6, which will keep you occupied for 3 minutes.

Exactly.. People complained about the VC, but this is worse...

Lems may very well use the excuse that these are last gen games which VC doesn't offer.. But I already have all of the LAST GEN games that I want...

The price is acceptable in the form of how bad to do I want it and how much work do I want to do to get it. I won't play 15 dollars because I will put the extra effect over instant demand.

Who honestly expected anything else? All Microsoft did for Xbox Originals was rip the ISOs of their Xbox games and put them up for download. The 360 treats them as though you just stuck an Xbox DVD into the drive. The whole concept is crap. Especially compared to their superb XBLA and XBL Video Marketplace services.

Just buy it from ebay or go outside and get it at a store.

As for scratches, most of my shops around herebuff the CD before they sell it to me, removing any scratches.

This is kind of like how people claim Virtual console is a rip off because you can buy the games for $3 on ebay. Not all games are that cheap even more so for Virtual Console but anyway for some games im sure $15 is good. I'm not sure about all the left out Live features though. I'm not big about online myself.

I'm not sure why anyone would get these games off of XBox Live Marketplace if you can buy the game on EBay for less. If these games are already B/C on the 360, why buy it off of the marketplace? I already have most of those games anyways.

People love to complain. They are giving people the chance to play older games in a new way. If you can get a better deal on ebay, do that. You're not forced to download the games, it's just another chioce.

As for the achievements, they are old games. We don't know how easy it is to implement these things into games, so why shoudl they waste man hours on stuff like this when they are trying to move forward.

The chances of me going out and randomly buying an original xbox game is very slim, but i might just pop online and give something a go because it is convenient. Thus is a new way for me to play something older that otherwise i probably wouldn't bother with.

well that completely sucks. theres no way im paying $15 for a game when i can walk into gamestop and get it for $5. and if the disk is scratched i can return it. so what if you dont have to put the disk in to play it, there atleast needed to be updates to the game. yes, achievements would have been very nice and made the whole deal a little sweeter.

bad service all around, just trying to compete with nintendo.

I bought Psychonauts last night. Psychonauts still goes for $30 on eBay and Amazon. Believe me, I checked. Psychonauts also goes for $20 on Steam, or you can get it on GameTap for a $10/ subscription (but you don't own it.) Xbox Live is currently the cheapest way to purchase Psychonauts.

2. Screen - They don't even update the game to fit on HD TV's so if you have one be prepared to watch a little box in the middle of your screen.

That's like asking Nintendo to retrofit their VC games for widescreen TVs. It's unrealistic to expect that.

3. Performance - Some games off of the marketplace lag since they run off of the hard drive. Only minor frame rate problems.

This is a legit complaint. I had minor framerate problems playing the intro movie for Psychonauts, but they cleared up as soon as my 360 finished doing whatever it was doing on Xbox Live. The game itself was silky smooth.

4. Size - Each game varies from 2gb to 5gb. Unless you have the 120gb hard drive its going to really dent your capacity.

Again, it's unrealistic to expect Microsoft to ask game developers to re-package old games at lower sizes.

No, Achievements are not the easiest thing to do. For these games to support Xbox Live 360 directly, it would take a major porting project. There are dozens of things that Xbox 360 games have to do that Xbox games did not, and they aren't things you can just bolt on after the fact.

In short, the Xbox Originals feature is extremely poorly executed. They don't even do anything new, your better off buying the game at Gamecrazy, which pretty much KILLS the entire idea.

I think you set your expectations too high. Xbox Originals is simply a way to purchase old-school Xbox games without having to hunt them down at a store or on eBay. It is exactly analogous to the Virtual Console on Wii.

It's interesting, but yeah, for the most part it seems pretty sucky. It'd be more worth it if they actually added to the game. If they had online multiplayer and achivementswith Halo Combat evolved I would have bought it no questions asked.

Fifteen dollars isn't to bad. At least they aren't charging you ten bucks for Nintendo 64 games.

You can't use the guide button when playing original x-box games on disc either. Price, don't buy if $15 is gonna break the bank or you don't feel its worth it. As far as the screen thing, I don't have an HDTV yet so I don't have to worry about that but i'm interested in knowing if games on disc do this if they aren't 480p compatible (some x-box games aren't).

And Sheep are complaining about their Virtual Console prices. At least when you pay for the games you get them cheaper then you would have on EBAY (especially for some of the rare games like Neo Geo and Sin & Punishment).

The idea of Xbox Originals is pretty dumb. Why not put out hard to find older gen games instead of current department store bargain bin games? Sega Saturn anyone? Dreamcast?

So if I wanted to play an Xbox game on my 360, all I have to do is put the game in the drive and download an update and it will work?

I'm asking because I'm still new to XBL and I want to pick up copies of Conker:L&R and Ghoulies.
