I think Nintendo is going to have the next Console out before MS or Sony. Do you think the Wii is going to last until 2011 when Microsoft is going to release the next Xbox system? Cell phones are going to have better graphics then the Wii in 2010.

the wii does not rely on graphics to push games therefore it can last a hell of a long time.

I think they're all going to launch their new console around 2011-2012. Which is how it usually goes and I dont see why it would be different this gen.

I think we'll see another XBOX b4 we see another Nintendo or Playstation.

Honestly I'd love to have an announcement for the next XBOX this year, with the plan of having it launch in 2010. But we probably won't hear anything til 09.

Sony can't really afford to get another system out the door, especially since they've invested so much into the PS3, calling it "the future" and bragging about how long it will last. Yes I realize that a PS4 could come out and they would still support the PS3 therefore making their claim true... but still.

Nintendo they don't rely on their systems horsepower the way MS & Sony do.... so they can put off the next console longer as well.

But my guess is "XBOX NEXT" in 2010... and Nintendo & Sony following suit in 2011.

I doubt you'll see a new Xbox system in 2010 my guess would be 2011 or maybe even 2012. Also I heard MS is going to have Motion Sensor Controllers that are more advance then Nintendo or Sony has out now.

DS LiteR - even lite-R than before, now with mp3 and stuff that PSP has!!!!

I reckin that there EA will bring out a console sooner or later. No money lost on developing for "lesser" platforms and all the big sellers exclusive to one console. Like it or not FiFA will outsell all the exclusives this year put together its just a fact of life :(

Or maybe MS and Sony are going to be tired of losing so much money and team up and build one game Console and share in the profits for each part they make. :D

lol the only partnership I have seen bewteen two rivaling companies is MS letting nintendo have some games on the DS to put more nails in the PSP coffin. I think we will see more and more of that being that the handheld market is too tight for mS to enter. Really smart on their part.

Awesome, merge the parts of the ps3 to the 360 and get:

charged for a hacked out laggy online service, constant breakdowns with dodgey warrenties and exploding internal batteries, sixaxis/360 controller frankenstein thats got a horrible D pad and you have to pay extra to charge it up, multiplats only, Lair and Blue Dragon, Phil H and Bill Gates spawn some offspring :|

Since the PS2 is still alive and the Wii is going the way of the PS2...and judging from how Microsoft dropped the Xbox so early...

Realistically I think Microsoft pulls out first because they want that 1 year lead.. it's obviously helped them all.

However, Sony may want to jump the gun as well knowing Microsoft's success.

The Wii's longevity is still in question, don't be surprised if Wii HD comes out early.

Still crossing my fingers for Dreamcast 2? Lol.

Probably MS, the RROD issue can't be doing their sales much good and if they don't fix the issue soon I would imagine they will be eager to move unto the next gen early. I realise the Wii has technical limitations but that is not harming sales or consumer confidence.

I can imagine Nintendo making a Wii with internal upscaling to 720p. It's not hard to upscale a consoles resolution.

Then it would look more or less on par with PS3 and 360.

i couldn't care less. We're now at a point where games couldn't look any better than they already are, unless we reach the level of power where it looks exactly like you're watching a movie or something. But even then, like they're discovering with the PS3 and 360, it'll be a long time before they harness the true power of the Cell or even the Xenon CPU, but with them being a lot more complicated with the multi CPU cores, i can't see that they'll need to produce another console anytime soon, especially what i've been reading on some tech review sites of the Xenos GPU for example.

while the wii is still sold out everywhere, probably will be until january 2009
nintendo won't shoot themself in the foot by even announcing a new console

i beleive nintendo will announce a new console in september-november 2009 and it will come out one year later

but microsoft is definitly one of the next company to release a console
they will most likely announce a new xbox before nintendo announces their console

MS. It's their nature and business strategy. Cheat the market as much as possible so your competition is forced to rush their product which makes it seem lackluster compared to theirs.

In any other country MS would not have as much power as they do but in the good old US it's okif you send in your 360 every few months because hey, you have a 3 year limited warranty. MS ranks right up there with walmart in my book. Evil.

They can't afford to wait too long. Otherwise, PC gaming will re-assert itself and leave consoles in the dust. Look at Crysis. Stunning graphics and huge levels. Crytek said plain and simple no console could do it. Moore's Law is still alive and kicking. PC technology is still evolving. By 2010, you're bound to see technology that'll make even today's consoles look like PS1s (that's right, ones) by comparison. This will in turn cause gamer expectations to rise in kind. Plus the PC's digital distribution channels are taking shape; this combined with lots of open development tools are a boon to the small fry and the indie. By 2010, you'll probably see gamers want a console that can do any game 1080p60 locked...with full effects. PC technology is creeping towards that pinnacle already (enthusiast tech can do it most of the time--now it needs to reach mid-level gamers, too). The console makers will need answers to the PC or developers may choose to defect so as to take advantage.

The next console will definitely be from Nintendo, and its going to be an Add-on, it will basically plug into the two usb ports, it will have decent graphics and will output 1080p as well as other features, the release date will be sometime late 2009. So in other words, the Wii will still be alive, but it will live alongside its brother, Wii2. So Wii games will still be made as well as Wii2 games.

you will be able to buy Wii separately when Wii2 is out for 149.99$, and the Wii1+Wii2 bundle for 349.99, Or Wii2 on its own for 249.99$.

You heard it here first.

you feel me ?

just so you know, all of these are educated guesses*

Nah, if Microsoft releases a console in 2010, Sony will have to respond. Anything Microsoft will release in 2010 is bound to make the PS3 look dated (Cell or no Cell, the PS3's graphics chipset is getting long in the tooth).

I bet nintendo will be the last company to release a console next gen. They will ride the wii for as long as they can. I also believe that nintendo likes to react to what the other companies are doing rather than get the jump on the competition

Even if it is a long time before they properly 'harness' the 'power' of the Cell or the Xenon, does ANYONE actually expect anything much from that? Does anyone realistically expect that the hardware will actually manage to keep up with the times? Its already dated and massively outclassed by current hardware available.

Its going to be just like what happened last generation. The true graphical quality will stagnate horribly and the developers will use clever methods to circumvent the issue such as artistic styling.

Nintendo has already confirmed that the next system after wii will have graphics that will be up to date with whatever the other next-gen systems have. I can't find the link but it was in a interview with Iwata.

Sony is planning to keep the ps3 for 10 years.. which I dont mind... i dont have to fork over any more money for a new ps4 anytime soon.

I think 2010 is way too soon..around 2010, im sure youll start to hear rumors of what is in the works.

As for what franchise will have a new system? I honestly think its Nintendo. Even though Nintendo is doing the best in sales, im sure they want to have better hardware/graphics with motion sensor (im not bashing the graphics, i think its great.. but obviously not as good as PS3/360)

Not with PC technology already eclipsing them. Quad-core desktop CPUs are getting cheaper and more powerful. Intel plans on releasing a desktop octo-core CPU within the next 18 months, and what about the continuing evolution of ATI and nVidia GPUs? nVidia's about to release the GeForce 9 series, which should be significantly more powerful than the 8 series (which is already several leaps and bounds better than the 7-series, the closest analogue to the console chips). Just think of the kind of horsepower a PC can unleash in 2010. Do you really think Sony can just sit back and watch PC technology become so patently better than any console that developers will feel compelled to develop for PC so as to take advantage of it?

Right now I don't want any new consoles. For all I care the PCs can make PS3/360/Wii look like NES graphics. I just want games for all the systems to be produced for a while. I love how Sony has supported the PS2 even if it hurts the PS3 sales and hopefully they will do the same with the PS3 when the PS4 is released.

However my guess is XBox , doing it this gen helped them out a lot. They just need to make sure their console is reliable before releasing it.

Yeah, though PC will forever remain the be the most powerful and have the best graphics compared to all other systems, its expensive to put money into a PC and make it great. Top of the line graphic cards these days cost as much or even more than a PS3 or a 360. But then again, once you get that, you should be set for the next couple of years. But most consumers would rather buy a ps3/wii/360 than fork over lots of money to buy a graphics card. Plus you gotta worry about enough RAM too. (which isnt expensive)

However, there is one thing a PS3 has that no PC can have... it has 16 core processors. A PC at most can have is four.. and thats rare right now. However, because a PS3 has 16, its extremely hard to develop games with that. I dunno I wouldnt be surprise a PS3 would last 10 years.. the PS2 lasted about 7 years

Agreed. Wii cannot last till 2010 cause its not exactly a next gen game. More ppl are buying HD TVs every year and by the time 2010 rolls over - no one will want something that looks terrible on those kinds of TVs to show off! Their next release will be able to play DVD movies without having to purchase an add on. then maybe 2015 (if we're lucky) we might see HD support from Nintendo's next console!

I'd personally would love to see Apple get in the game. I know 4 is crowded but I'd just like to see what they would come up with. Alot of people may think it would be over priced but I think apple knows what it takes to be competitive. For sure it would looks great and have more than half decent hardware. Not to mention the things they could do with integration and I would imagine it would have a substantial fan base if it were to be announced. I think developers would take notice.

In regards to Sony, I think whatever they come out with next, they have learned alot with the leap they took with the PS3 (good and bad) and whenever they come out with something it should be very well done.

Nintendo will continue to be innovative in whatever they do. Microsoft should probably delve into they're creative mindboxes, but they will probably continue to play it safe and do what they do best.

If anything Apple will go to Nintendo because that si the only company they are not directly competing with.

the wii does not rely on graphics to push games therefore it can last a hell of a long time.Cyber-

I'd be a lot more weary since it relies on a gimmick to push it's games. And don't even deny it. All the "good" games you sheep list are the same crap no one but you wanted on the Gamecube.

I actually think that Sony will forego next gen. I can see Sony riding the PS3 for a while while developing a console to be released around like 2020.richsena

I second that

I can see MS showing their next console by next year actually.
