[QUOTE="HuusAsking"][QUOTE="u8muhrice"] Sony is planning to keep the ps3 for 10 years.. which I dont mind... i dont have to fork over any more money for a new ps4 anytime soon.
I think 2010 is way too soon..around 2010, im sure youll start to hear rumors of what is in the works.
As for what franchise will have a new system? I honestly think its Nintendo. Even though Nintendo is doing the best in sales, im sure they want to have better hardware/graphics with motion sensor (im not bashing the graphics, i think its great.. but obviously not as good as PS3/360)

Not with PC technology already eclipsing them. Quad-core desktop CPUs are getting cheaper and more powerful. Intel plans on releasing a desktop octo-core CPU within the next 18 months, and what about the continuing evolution of ATI and nVidia GPUs? nVidia's about to release the GeForce 9 series, which should be significantly more powerful than the 8 series (which is already several leaps and bounds better than the 7-series, the closest analogue to the console chips). Just think of the kind of horsepower a PC can unleash in 2010. Do you really think Sony can just sit back and watch PC technology become so patently better than any console that developers will feel compelled to develop for PC so as to take advantage of it?Yeah, though PC will forever remain the be the most powerful and have the best graphics compared to all other systems, its expensive to put money into a PC and make it great. Top of the line graphic cards these days cost as much or even more than a PS3 or a 360. But then again, once you get that, you should be set for the next couple of years. But most consumers would rather buy a ps3/wii/360 than fork over lots of money to buy a graphics card. Plus you gotta worry about enough RAM too. (which isnt expensive)
However, there is one thing a PS3 has that no PC can have... it has 16 core processors. A PC at most can have is four.. and thats rare right now. However, because a PS3 has 16, its extremely hard to develop games with that. I dunno I wouldnt be surprise a PS3 would last 10 years.. the PS2 lasted about 7 years
Thing is, though, because PC tech evolves so quickly, prices drop quickly too. An 8800 was an arm and a leg not too long ago, but now GTS's are within reason for even the midrange gamer. And those new Yorkfield quads coming out in March will have a wide range of prices (the Q9450 is looking to be the sweet spot of the lot--it's what I'm gonna get). And that's just now. Think two years down the road. There will be octo-core desktop CPUs by then. Imagine if Microsoft were to build an octo-core CPU for its next console with the old Xenon thrown in there, too, as backup and for BC. Combined with one or two GPUs equivalent to say a GeForce 9-series, and you'd have something even Sony will have to watch. PS. The PS3 does not have 16 cores. It has 7--one Power-based PPE with a potential dual-thread capability and 6 specialized SPE units, one of which is used by the XMB and another can be hijacked at any time.
