The next generation of consoles. Are you going to skip it or not?

This generation of consoles has introduced a lot of bad trends. Pre-release DLC, online passes, absurd amount of useless overpriced DLC and the increasing focus on motion controls (this may be a good thing. depends on what you like).A lot of games are being dumbed down to appeal to the masses. Every game has to sell millions of copies to be considered a success, and if not, the studio gets shut down.People are getting more and more concerned about which game is prettier instead of focusing on the games with fresh and innovative ideas.

What the hell is going on? I know I probably make it sound way more bad than it really is, but whenever we want it or not, it's only going to get worse.

Personally, I'm very likely to sit out on the next generation of consoles. I just can't be bothered with this whole DLC business anymore. The fact that you could buy a game and go home and play it right away, is what made console gaming cool. I bought Sims 3 on release last fall, and couldn't access the online functionalities because the code THAT CAME WITH MY BRAND NEW COPY was invalid. It's been over 6 months, and I still doesn't work. Is this really what gaming has become? You can't even bring a game to a friends house and play online anymore, because of these damn online passes. Gaming sure is fun these days, huh?

On topic. Although nothing is written in stone I probably will buy at least one next gen console. I could get a PC instead... but I enjoy gaming on consoles way more tbh.

Nope, I won't be skipping it. I think if people are unhappy with their current console, and are thinking of leaving console gaming...fine (PC is great, so no big loss), but consider that you may not be happy with your current console, and it may be time for a change.

I have heard this argument before in SW and IRL, and I usually like to talk about their current gaming habits and what machine they have that have driven them to this decision. I usually get the same answer, same console. I'm curious about that answer in this case, it's like an informal study. :P

es! I'm not going to skip and I wll probably be buying a WiiU when it comes out next year. because I usually don't like the types of games on the other consoles.

I won't skip next gen consoles, but I won't get one for a solid 3 years. PC gaming is my new home.

Of course I'm gonna buy at least one console. Don't fret, some developers do get it.

Might buy the Wii U for Zelda HD. But im happy with my awesome PC

On PC we have DRM, so that's not perfect either.

Depends what direction each company takes. If they all jump into motion gaming, then yes.

Absolutely not. Way to many console exclusive IP's that I would not want to miss out on. Time well tell whether its the Xbox 720 or Ps4, but I'm definetely getting one of them.

Depends I guess, but I'd say I've been thinking of taking up PC gaming more than I have in the past.

At this point, I only plan on buying a Wii U, while sticking with PC for most of my gaming.

Edit: It's even harder to know whether or not I will skip without knowing anything about the consoles from Sony and Microsoft.

I'll consider Nintendo's console. I don't forsee myself buying either Sony or MS' next offerings, as I'm quite happy with PC gaming.

If the PS4 comes with Backward Compatibility, I might buy one (hope it's not TOO expensive). 8)

Next gen I will be gaming on a PC and Wii U only if I can resist the urge.

No more multiconsole gaming for me. I've had enough. Generation 7 has taught me that ONE console, with all its multimedia features, is more than enough to keep me busy in one generation.

Just one console next gen. And skipping the rest. I'm an XBOX gamer (even just being on Silver), so I'll likely stick with MS' offering. If they decide to go full blown casual and severely lack in the exclusives department, I might be force to go with Sony. It can go either way for me. So it depends.

As for Launch, not gonna happen with me. I'll wait til 2015 the latest.

Hard to say for sure. I had no intention on getting a PS2, but I did. Same with PS3 and Wii, but I got both of those, too. Right now I don't have any real intentions to buy any newer-gen consoles, but that, too, may change. No plans, but that could always change on a whim.

Highly doubt it. I will probably buy 2 of them, possibly all of them. But if they all suck and bring nothing I want to the table, I will be a PC only gamer.

I will only get one console next gen instead of 3 like i did this gen.

I'll be going WiiU and whatever MS next console is called. I bought all three this gen and ended up staying with just the Wii60 (Sold the PS3). I've got a gut feeling Sony is going to start charging for online next gen, and with no new media format to push their PS4 (or whatever it will be called), I see no reason to bother with the next Sony system next gen. Plus owning all three is just too expensive. Trying to keep up on games for all the systems is ridiculous unless you have a disposable income. MS and Nintendo exclusives interest me more than Sonys do, so that helps make my decision as well.

I hope to get a Gaming Laptop.

Ive been 1st in line at my walmart for the last 10 years for every console release and have several others from their launch as well. BUT im skipping next gen. At least until I feel the desire to game again. I think I would rather get a root canal then play games anymore..

It's between PS4 or Wii-U for me but my interest in the Wii-U is kind off dying. Will skip the PS4 if the early rumors are anywhere near true. Not buying the nextbox. I'm done with MS consoles.

I will have both handhelds and try to build a decent PC though.

I like Nintendo's IP's so a WiiU is likely, especially if its getting more 3rd party support. I really dont have any interest in MS at this point and Sony's exclusives have never really been for me.

No way. I always find there's exclusives on each system to make them worthwhile. I'll wait longer but probably get them all eventually. Someone started a thread at the start of this gen saying they were going to skip it. I wonder if they did.

when is the nintendo wii u out ,, cause im getting that i already started gen 8 with 3ds , so why should i skip it oh to play another round of 200 fpses i dont think so nintendo give me more mariokart zelda mario party and give me just 1 fps this gen , that fps will be a 007 title,

im am so sick of fpses thats why that would be the only one i could ever care for again ,,

Doubtful, but I hope next gen will revert back to the times when (not just innovative) story and character development pulled me in. There are some games this gen that did that like Heavy Rain, but the problem was it was to quick and going back didn't have the same draw the first time I played through.
