So next month promises to be full of RPG goodness... and yet, which will be the game that will most probably trump all the competition when it comes to sheer addictiveness, value, or heck, even sales? The upcoming Pokemon games!

Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver, the stylised remakes of the quintessential Pokemon Gold and Silver are releasing on March 14. The hype meter says they're gonna be clocking in an AAAE score, that they're gonna be the best Pokemon games ever, trumping even the original G/S/C (and becoming, by extension, the greatest handheld games ever created).

In case you don't know what these games are about (!), check out the excerpts from the preview posted below.

And don't forget to vote on the hype meter!

------------------------------------------------------

Ok, so this site just previewed Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver (using an imported Japanese copy), and man, have they gotnothing but good things to say about the game.

Some excerpts from the preview, and you'll know what I mean:

'However, the title has already launched in Japan, and been met with rave reviews, and mind boggling sales figures. We've got our hands on a Japanese import copy of the game, and after exhaustively going through everything that the game has to offer, I can very confidently state that Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver looks set to be the greatest Pokemon title ever, topping the originals and pipping them for the post of the 'Best Handheld Game of All Time.'

That is no exaggeration- as fans would certainly know, Gold and Silver were the high points of the series, which has only gone downhill since. And while it certainly managed to regain some of its lost charm with the recent DS titles, the sheer highs of addictiveness and (relative) innovation that the series touched with the ubiquitous pair of the GBC titles has never since been replicated. Fans have been clamoring for a release that will restore the series' pride proper. And with HeartGold and SoulSilver, it seems they'll get what they've wanted...

I don't even know how to sum it all up. The best way possible, I suppose, is to state that Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver is going to be the best Pokemon game ever. It's minor (technical) flaws notwithstanding, the game is set to become not only the series' new high point, but also the centerpiece of the DS's already robust library, and the greatest handheld game ever created.

Initial concern when this game was first announced centered not only around whether this game would be able to live up to the original- that is a natural concern, whenever remakes are concerned- but also, whether it would be able to recapture the spirit of the original. You see, Gold/Silver was the first and last time that the Pokemon series innovated, and that spirit would have been paradoxically impossible for a remake to recapture, because of its very status a s a remake. And yet, amazingly, HeartGold/SoulSilver bucks the trend and, true to its progenitor, moves the series forward again.

The game is set for a March 2010 release in North America, and May 2010 for Europe and Australia. We'll have our final review for the English build ready around the time of the game's North American release. Going by initial impressions, HeartGold and SoulSilver is set to receive the highest score that can be awarded to any game.'

The images are also pretty good out there man.

The link is provided below, but some of the new features:

- Pokemon follow you around (we've known this for a long time)
- There's a new Safari Zone, Battle Frontier and Pal Park (this was pretty obvious, but it's good to know this anyway)
- The game follows the story of Pokemon Crystal, rather than the story of Gold and Silver
- There are a couple of new story elements and plotlines as well as characters added
- ALL PRE SINNOH STARTERS CAN BE OBTAINED!!!
- ALL PRE SINNOH NON LEGENDARY POKEMON CAN BE CAUGHT!!!

Man, I'm pumped! What about you guys?

EDIT: Changed thread title and contents of OP. Original post didn't have any of the content above the dashed line.

I'm pretty excited, though I still need to play Platinum. Now's just about the perfect time for Ninty to be hitting us with Gold/Silver remakes.

If the first couldn't get AAA, then there's no hope for this.

I doubt this would be getting AAA, max AA, they simply haven't made any significant improvements.

Oh man, that's like a review without a score. I want this game to get a 9, and I'm sure I'll be giving it an AAA score, but Gamespot being Gamespot, HG/SS wil get no more than 8.5. IGN might give them an AAA score, though. That's a great preview up there, and the images rock. I'm pumped, man... I can't wait!

Come on, the remakes to the greatest handheld game of all time don't need any improvements... G/S/C were already perfect, and HG/SS has improved upon the few flaws that the originals had.

So why the remake?

Sorry, I suppose I should have been more clear, there's hardly any improvements in the series since Silver/Gold, and we've had quite a few iterations since then.

Oh look, it's an "I'm too cool to care for something that doesnt have blood and gore and sex, I'm too cool for Pokemon,' person. Grow up, man. The games are undoubtedly some of the best on the market, and the only person who loses out by not playing these games is you.

This is actually my dream come true. When I say that I mean it, I have been hoping for this ever since they did a remake for red and green version. The G/S/C generation was the best of Pokemon, and quite possibly the best Handheld games ever made. On a side note, to those who think they they grew out of Pokemon, think again. Chances are if you "grew out of pokemon", you actually just didn't get the next Nintendo handheld, I doubt there are many people who own a Nintendo handheld and don't own a pokemon game (atleast people like us who enjoy good games as a hobby)

Ehhh......might get this. I couldn't get into Platinum, but maybe it will be easier to get into a Pokemon game where all the Pokemon designs aren't garbage done by artistically-challenged dumbasses.

Well ive played it, and i would say its a 9, but somehow i just don't think they changed enough for non-hardcore pokemon fans. So im guessing 8, or something like that.

I know. But think of how awesome a REAL pokemon would be for Wii? You could even implement some online competing/trading aspect with friend codes. Hell, they are already REMAKING old pokemon games. Why don't they just remake one - just ONE - with some improved graphics and dump it on Wii. I'd buy it for sure.

I'm thinking high 8's. Maybe a 9.0.

Believe it or not, they did add a lot of stuff from the original.

In addition to TC's list (Just to name a few minor things):

- The gyms are completely redone (They are amazing).
- Also, the first Pokemon in your party follows you.
- The interface is so much better set up. The bottom screen has all your menu stuff (Such as Pokedex, Pokemon, Save... ect). And you can touch it whenever, and it will open it up. Also, there is a button you can click on that makes you ALWAYS RUN!!!!! So you do not have to hold down B.

I was at prime Pokemon age when Gold and Silver came out. I'm getting this game, and the nostalgia might make it one of my favorite games of the gen.

Already have it. I'm yet to put much time into, just beat the first and second gym. They're much improved. The second one even gas a slight puzzle element to it, albeit very slight.

I'd say AA, personally, i love Pokemon games, despite them being all the same.

Surely im too old for all this pokemon nonsense.

None are very notible.

Tag Battles ... More colours and poorly implemented ribbin, acorn systems, sprites that ...wobble abit when released from a pokeball. Nothing that effects gameplay has been made, except maybe the special/physical attack change.

The Main game is always the same. Same pacing, same goals, slightly different story.

So?

Lots of people dislike Pokemon,a nd im sure a lot of them will wonder if people our age care about it.

I have no idea why i like pokemon, god knows i shouldnt. I guess the simplicity of it all is enjoyable, cause it's not the story, characters, depth, etc.

You would have to be pretty out of touch as a gamer to not know there's this whole Pokemon phenomenon that's been going on for the past decade. No offense, but there it is. Do you EV train or exploit the depth under Pokemon's cute n' cuddly exterior? It's not actually that simplistic if you play it seriously.

Depends what you call a "gamer" If i were to tell any of my friends, or there friends, that i played Pokemon, they'd A, laugh at me, B, ask me if it;s still being made, or C, disown me.

They're "gamers" just like you.

Alsotois that simple. People make out it's complex, it's just not. Ev training is a simple idea, with simple execution. Besides, this knowledge is only useful online, which may i add is FULL of cheaters anyway.

Lots of people dislike Pokemon,a nd im sure a lot of them will wonder if people our age care about it.

I have no idea why i like pokemon, god knows i shouldnt. I guess the simplicity of it all is enjoyable, cause it's not the story, characters, depth, etc.

fatzebra

That's, uh, nice. But if they really don't know what Pokemon is and don't realize people still play it, then yes, they're out of touch. This is a huge franchise that's sold millions upon millions of copies to a varied audience of all ages.

I agree with this. Apparently, you and I are not "gamers" because we consider pokemon beyond childish.

Who claimed that?

While I do agree that pokemon might be a bit childish, no one can deny the simplicity of the concept behind pokemon and how well executed it is. Ps. I do still play Pokemon Diamond so I'm with you guys on this.
