[QUOTE="fatzebra"][QUOTE="Stats_"] You would have to be pretty out of touch as a gamer to not know there's this whole Pokemon phenomenon that's been going on for the past decade. No offense, but there it is. Do you EV train or exploit the depth under Pokemon's cute n' cuddly exterior? It's not actually that simplistic if you play it seriously. WAIW

Depends what you call a "gamer" If i were to tell any of my friends, or there friends, that i played Pokemon, they'd A, laugh at me, B, ask me if it;s still being made, or C, disown me.

They're "gamers" just like you.

Alsotois that simple. People make out it's complex, it's just not. Ev training is a simple idea, with simple execution. Besides, this knowledge is only useful online, which may i add is FULL of cheaters anyway.

That's, uh, nice. But if they really don't know what Pokemon is and don't realize people still play it, then yes, they're out of touch. This is a huge franchise that's sold millions upon millions of copies to a varied audience of all ages.

Varied audience? I'd like to see some proof of that. I don't believe it for a second. Especially not in the U.S.

Sold is past tense. It's still selling , but so are a lot of games no one cares about ... so what's your point?

They're not "out of touch" you're obviously just far more hardcore then they are.

Lets be honest here, Pokemon mainly sells in Japan, over here in the west, it's auidence is mostly the younger kids. Im not saying it's for kids, just that it appeals FAR more to kids then older people. Mainly for it's simplicity, easy to follow "story" and objectives. This coupled with cutesy colourful characters.

I know several people i'd consider "serious" gamers, and none of them who glance twice at it. Anacdotal evidence isn't evidence at all, my friend.

I can't wait for this game, played pokemon gold a long time ago and I have to say it was my favorite pokemon game of all time. Now that it has been remade with wifi battling I am very excited with this game. Hopefully they didn't revamped the game so much that I can't recognized some of the setting right off the bat.

 seriously if anyone needs to grow up here, its you. pokemon is the 2nd best selling series of all time NOT because only kids buy the games. correct me if i'm wrong, but a good 35%-40% of pokemon gamers are 13+.

on topic Pkmn HG/SS will at least get a 9.0, so much innovation. i'm hyped:D

I'm looking forward to this game(s) as much as the next pokemon fan but AAA? If the original G/S couldn't get AAA back when they were first released the remakes have no chance. You guys really need to differentiate between personal and realistic hype.

Pokemon is alot deeper than people tend to give it credit for. I missed the GBA ones, and when I came back to the series with Diamond, I was amazed at the changes that have been made in the series. It goes beyond simply beating the gyms and catching wild pokemon. The series has a level of competitive play that I never would have thought possible.

Take a look at this website, and you'll see the pokemon are divided by tiers, have suggested movesets, and even which natures and abilities are considered important to win matches.

http://www.smogon.com/dp/pokemon/

That's the problem, people look at Pokemon and assume that its a kiddie game because of the cute monsters. Honestly, since when did video games become some badge of adulthood where anything cute should be played only by kids? By your logic, should an adult be ashamed to rewatch a Disney or Pixar movie that they maybe enjoyed in their youth?

What happend to playing games for fun, regardless of what the game looked like? I love blood and gore in my games, but I'll still happily play Mario, Sonic, Classic Mega Man, and Pokemon games as long as they remain enjoyable. That simple fact seems to be getting lost as people debate about HD, fancy sound systems, and other topics on here.

By the way, HeartGold and Soulsilver are just behind Dragon Quest IX as the top DS games I'm looking foward to next year. Gold and Silver are still my favorite games in the series, and its nice to see them coming back on the DS. One good thing is that they will reintroduce features that have been missing since the GBA games, which is something nice to see.

Tell me, do you remember Lion King and Toy Story? You loved those movies didn't you? Would you be ashamed to go back to them and watch them now? If yes, well then, what can I say, you outgrew CHILDHOOD, and I have no idea how you managed that. But assuming you didn't, you'll understad. Beneath the deceptively cuddly and cute exterior of Pokemon lies a dangerously addictive and deep gameplay experience. You know how people harp on about the online communities of Modern Warfare and Halo 3? Well, I dare say Pokemon's online community is MORE ACTIVE. Pokemon is actually the true hardcore gamer's game. Games like GTA and Modern Warfare, they're dumbed sdown and shallow, made so that they will appeal to everybody at first sight. It's only tre gamers, who care for the GAME, and NOT THE APPEARANCES, who can play Pokemon. There, I said it. Games like GTA and Halo and odern Warfare? They're casual. For hardcore gamers, there's Pokemon. Stuff that you play, not ogle at.

The only thing I dislike about Second Gen were the starters. Cyndaquil, Totodile, and Chikarita all suck. Other than that, I really want to play it.

If you don't for Pokemon, there are only a few reasons:

1. You came into "game playing age" after the craze died down

2. You're a mid-teen that's trying to look more mature than you really are.

3. You never played a Pokemon game before.

4. The off-chance that you really just don't like the game.

I will score it a perfect 10 like I have every other pokemon game except for Ruby/Saphire/Emerald. Every other pokemon game Imo has been a flawless handheld experience even platinum was amazing and lasts way longer than probably any other ds game and will remaiin that way till heart gold/soul silver.

Brilliant post. Couldn't agree more. Sure I have all the next gen systems and stuff, but I really haven't played them much recently because I got sucked into platinum and its seriously the most addictive game I think ive played this gen, regardless of how old the formula is the stuff they added over the years is so awesome. And the online functionallity when diamond came out it proved it had better online than the wii lmao cause you could voice chat with your friends while battling I put so many hours into doing that

Pokemon isn't deep ... That's why it's so addictive, that's why so many kids jump on it. It's easy for anyone to play, and fun to boot.

I can't understand how people think it's complex. The EV system is VERY simple, and that's the only think anyone could say is deep.

There is nothing wrong with a game being simple ...

Pokemon is a franchise that appeals to anyone who enjoys the concept. I don't know about the people you know, but most of my friends still play the games and I've meet plenty of people my age or older who still enjoy Pokemon. Pokemon is just like Mario in the fact that the franchise can appeal to anyone who is willing to play the games and enjoy them.

In many ways, those two franchises are like the movies that Pixar makes. Yeah, they may be aimed more towards kids, but they are often desgined to be enjoyable for adults as well.

One other thing that I should note is that I've noticed that Pokemon is very popular with female gamers.

[QUOTE="charizard1605"] Oh look, it's an "I'm too cool to care for something that doesnt have blood and gore and sex, I'm too cool for Pokemon,' person. Grow up, man. The games are undoubtedly some of the best on the market, and the only person who loses out by not playing these games is you.caryslan2

lol I did grow up long before pokemon was around, the only people I know who like pokemon are kids sorry

I know i'm going to get alot of hate but I was out of high school when pokemon was "cool" and no one my age played or cared about it

Pokemon is a franchise that appeals to anyone who enjoys the concept. I don't know about the people you know, but most of my friends still play the games and I've meet plenty of people my age or older who still enjoy Pokemon. You can't simple say "But my friends like it" That's not proof that adults enjoy it. It simply means your friends like it.

Pokemon is first and foremost for kids. Everything about it is designed for kids.

HOWEVER, it's a GOOD game. Everyone, regardless of age sex, etc likes good games, hence why you and your friends like it. The reason i like it. The reason it sells so much.

The first statement about my friends was more to counter the argument that he posted regarding how nobody he knew liked the game, but I accept your point.

And I'm not argueing that Pokemon is aimed towards younger gamers, I think that much is very obvious with the way Nintendo markets the games. One thing to consider is that Pokemon is a deeper game than most people give it credit for.

In the end though, you are right when you say its a good franchise. I think the gameplay, the charm of the franchise, and the fact that is has some depth helps it appeal to a wide audience.

Its the same reason why Mario is still popular with gamers of all ages. Yes, Mario games are often aimed towards a younger audience, but they offer the elements that let them appeal to gamers of all ages.

I don't blame you. Ruby and Sapphire butchered the hell out of Gold and Silver.

Pokemon is a AAAA series in my eyes. I can't think of any other series that has more depth and a constantly changing metagame than Pokemon does.

This game is undoubtedly going to keep me very busy, but I'm hoping not for another 500 hours like Diamond. :P

Alsotois that simple. People make out it's complex, it's just not. Ev training is a simple idea, with simple execution. Besides, this knowledge is only useful online, which may i add is FULL of cheaters anyway.

Stats_

Ever heard of RNG Abuse? That is sure as HELL not simple.

The leading community behind the Pokemon metagame (smogon) frowns upon AR use for Pokemon editing and creation. If you go there, people don't cheat. It's only on gamefaqs and other forums that you'll start running into cheaters.

I'd be up for buying them. Gold and silver are two of the best games ever, and seeing as the last games I played were just terrible, it'll be nice to return to when pokemon was the coolest thing ever.

This is actually my dream come true. When I say that I mean it, I have been hoping for this ever since they did a remake for red and green version. The G/S/C generation was the best of Pokemon, and quite possibly the best Handheld games ever made. On a side note, to those who think they they grew out of Pokemon, think again. Chances are if you "grew out of pokemon", you actually just didn't get the next Nintendo handheld, I doubt there are many people who own a Nintendo handheld and don't own a pokemon game (atleast people like us who enjoy good games as a hobby)ULTIMATEZWARRIO

Thats so true.. for some time I though I "out grew" all the pokemon stuff, and to some degree its true cause I really dont fancy any of the anime tv series or merchandise anymore but since I gave pokemon platinum a chance when I got my dsi 3 weeks ago I've been hooked to the game ! its really a great rpg experience and it brings me so many good memories about the blue /red versions on my old gameboy (games In which I spent many many hours into) so I really think that ANY gamer and/or rpg lover should be pleased with these games!

I know. IMO, Gold and Silver were the greatest handheld games ever created. Then along come Ruby and Sapphire, and they MASSACRE what had made Gold and Silver so great. :(
