Star wars the old republic is sold out on UK Amazon and beating BF3 in sales. Looking on US Amazon even the overpriced collectors edition is beating BF3 in sales.

How can The Old Republic beat crappy generic military shooter in sales!? no way o.O

What?
Blizzard popularized the casualisation and the carebear-oriented nature in MMOs. Any MMO that has no open PvP and PKing system, and no decent death penalty, be it item, xp or money loss, is a carebear-oriented, casual-fest. And it was WoW that popularized that and casualised the genre.
I can't believe people are actually hyping this garbage.

There's a penalty for dying in WoW.. I suppose it could go under the money loss section since that's what it effectively does.

I would say Runescape is more "hardcore" than a lot of these casual themeparks that plague the genre.
You do realize there are plenty of mmorpgs out there with actual death penalties such as losing xp even deleveling, dropping items, severe money loss, WoW has some, but its tiny and pretty insignificant.
EvE Online, Ultima Online, those were some fine games, EvE online is pretty darn hardcore. Notorious for it even.

It's kinda generic, i'll be the first to admit, not something that can really be changed by any graphics, vehicles, tactical gameplay or destructible environments. Not to say that it's a CoD clone, because CoD copied from the same 'military 'teh realizm' FPS' book as BF3. Crappy, almost certainly not.I'm thinking about pre-ordering the Collector's Edition from the UK myself, since it won't be available in my country, from what I've heard.
SkyWard20
I highly recommend you do so then.Oh yeah, and if you pre-order a collectors edition you get to play the game a whole week early. So yeah, go pre-order it.
Do you know why it wont appear in the UK if what you hear is true?

Spent years playing Lineage 2. Not quite as hardcore as EvE, but losing 4% xp that takes a few hundreds of mobs to regain, was kinda painful. It was all about the PvP though, and seeing all those new MMOs trying to separate PvP and PvE, with factions, and bgs, and all that. No. You should earn your PvE, fight the other guild/clan for that raid, and the best takes it. Instances are the worst thing to happen to MMOs imo. MMOs are not about the story, they are about player interaction.

Well, Skyward20 I dont know. What I do know is that they do accept orders from people outside the UK, but I dont know if they actually send them.

Ahh, Linage 2, I havent played it myself, but I heard outside of the grind, it was pretty darn good. I agree with what you are saying, PvP and PvE are very seperate in modern mmos and usually it feels like PvP is nothing more than a mere minigame, all you lose if you lose a PvP fight is some time. Remember in many sandbox mmos where there was actual interceptions, guild warfare, territory control, espionage, player politics ect.
While the actual PvP in EverQuest 2 wasnt that great itself, the ideas behind it were. as players could loot fallen enemies, attack anyone if they were an exile (neutral faction). 80% or so of the PvP server population seemed to be exile, as it meant they could attack anyone they pleased unburdened by restrictive factions.
Oh and btw, are you hyped for ArcheAge? It is made by Jake Song, who developed the Lineage games.
How does a game that isn't out yet, sell out? foxhound_fox
Only the Special Edition is sold out i guess it had a good demand and they don't know if they can get more copies of it from the publisher, at least that's what they said.

EA are limiting the amount of pre-orders, this is because they want to control the launch population, as those who preorder will get to play the game 7 days early if they got the Collectors edition, and 3 days early if they got the normal edition.
Most likely for server stability. Something which plagues many mmo launches.

I am SO hyped about Archeage :D Not only made by the man who made L1 and L2, not only can you build ur own house/ship/castle, but it's also powered by Cryengine 3! What else to ask in an MMO! Sandbox gameplay with open pvp and all that goodness, decent questing and crafting as I hear, and fantastic visuals.

Nice to see someone else hyped for ArcheAge. Indeed the game is everything we could ask for in an mmo, if it delivers on everything it promises to do, it might be the game of the gen.
Forget SWTOR, forget GW2. Archeage looks more ambitious than both... combined.

No, what we want is a game with tonnes of freedom, player politics, interactive world and meaningful PvP. Something that mmos like SWTOR and WoW lacks.

I can almsot certainly bet you that GW2 and ToR will heavily outscore and outsell archeage, a niche korean grind high end pc requiring MMO.

Game isnt out yet, so I dont know how grindy the game will be. However if Lineage is any indication it will be very grindy. However, unlike Themepark mmos the game wont start once you hit the level cap.

For TOR perhaps. Which is one thing that looks good about it. A problem with many themepark mmos out there is that the levelling experience basicly serves as a glorified tutorial.
Edit: But that is one of the few positive things I have to say about TOR. GW2 looks good though, but I am more interested in ArcheAge.
TOR will sell well which is a given, I mean it has hype, heavy emphasis on story, Bioware and Star Wars. Though the question is, how many will stay after a year?
