Premium services on the PC were never required for online play--there were always multiple free options built right into the game. These premium services were soon killed off by free services like Microsoft's Zone.com. After that online fees only remained for MMORPG-type games.

This is not at all like the situation with Xbox Live where if you don't pay you can't use any form of online multiplayer whatsoever.

Sony and Nintendo offer free online play. MS doesn't. PSN is free and Sony exclusives offer more dedicated servers than 360 exclusives. Simple as that. The reason online play is Gold only is because otherwise no one would pay if they could play online for free.

They even increased the price. And for what? So MS could pay for timed exclusived Call of Duty DLC?

Yes everyone knows that Xbox Live is a rip off, the fact that it's the only online service to charge a fee makes it the worst online service besides the Wii. Only the most hardcore Lems try and defend it, which alwyas consists of them overexaggerating cheap gimmicks like Cross Chat or Facebook, I can gurantee you that if Xbox Silver let people play online for FREE that 90% of the Lems on here would drop their Gold Membership and just stick with Silver. I know they don't care about cross chat or parties as much as they say they do, it's a rip off plane and simple.

What else is funny is how many damn dashboard changes that XBL goes through, and there newest one has a similar layout to PSN. On top of this they throw ads in your face all the while taking your money so you can play over your own internet on P2P servers (ironcially the FREE PSN has more dedicated servers than XBL which has hardly any at all). I hear so many Lems who go out and purchase MS Gold Fmily Pack which $100 a year for 4 accounts, andthey honestly think that's a great deal. I then tell them that I can make as many PSNaccounts Iwant to for FREE and then they get upset at me and tell me I'm an idiot. This has lead me to believe that people who pay for XBL suffer from an extreame case of buyers remorse and this leads to two things:

1. They quit paying for XBL and go elsewhere(these are the smart people)

2. They try desperately to convince themselves that it's nota rip off.

Lems always like to sugar coat it by saying "it's $5 a month" which is also known as downplaying the reality of the situation. I try to get them to do the math in the opposite direction:

What is $50 over the course of 3 years? $150 that's right.

Now what is $150 plus the Xbox system it'self which was around $300? $450!

That makes the Xbox 360 the most expensive system in the long run, and that's not even counting the $100 WIFI adapter that so many suckers bought, that would make it $550, which is about the same price as the originall PS3!

You Lems can't argue about the price of the PS3 being too expensive, because you guys have already spent that amount of money already! You guys have gotten screwed hard! But I guess if you keep telling yourself "it's only $5" will make it less painful huh?

Do you know I don't own a 360? I actually do, but it RROD out of warrenty so never got it fixed. Didn't need to because as soon as I got a PS3 I didn't have a reason to play my Xbox, I tried buyin games on it in a vain attempt at trying to get some use out of it, but it was pointless as the whole time I would be wishing I was playing the game on PS3.

I got a 360 the month after the system launched with COD 2 and PDZ as my first two games, COD was awesome but PDZ sucked, thought it was going to be great like N64 PD, but nope complete let down. I never paid for XBL once, only used a 1 month FREE trial and used a direct connection with my laptop (I wasn't going to waste money on stupid WIFI reciever, I'm not stupid) I didn't see any difference from PSN other than alot mroe annoying kids, which is the Xbox's target audince (just look at the dashboard, lot's of pictures and cartoon avatars, it's basically Myspace which is alsofor kids)

I don't care if you believe me or not, but XBL is a rip off and anyone that pays for it knows it is as well. Have you ever heard of GFWL? It was MS failed attempt at trying to get PC gamers to pay for online, and guess what? PC gamers said F-off and now GFWL is FREE (well it's called XBL now but still) if Xbox gamers did the same thing XBL would be FREE as well, but they won't, you know why? Because the average Xbox owner is a little kid who doesn't know the value of money because his mommy and daddy pays for it.

This is the truth and one only needs to look at Kinect to see what direction MS is taking the Xbox brand even further.

360 is my preferred platform so i can defend this. Anyone who wants to call you a fanboy is in denial. I find it funny how in todays world you get called a "fanboy" for simply speaking the truth.

All of the stuff on XBL are things on we already have access to on our computers. They take all these free features & then put them on XBL & use it as an excuse to charge people for. All of which has nothing to do with actual gaming ( facebook, msn, twitter, youtube ).

Charging to use your own P2P connection is not a service. Its a scam. MS should be sued & investigated for defruading the public, as well as heavily fined.

The new XBL design is crap. All it did was make advertisements more prevalent & dictated the actual uses of the system to little icons on the side. Not only does MS make enough from advertisements to pay for their entire garbage network but they also get our yearly membership fees as pure profit. What a joke.
