does anyone know why each comsole supporter is called this way?
This topic is locked from further discussion.
-Nintendo Sheep follow Nintendo wherever they go no matter what they do. -PC Hermits like to be locked up in their rooms (or mom's basement as some say) playing online with no RL friends. -Sony's Cows are CLEARLY getting milked but keep denying it. I dont know Lemming and manticore though.TheBigBadGRIMLemmings own Microsoft consoles and manticores own more than one console, I'm one of them(manticore).

The TERMS aren't supposed to be Complimentary. Remember, GAMESPOT was a PC ONLY site, and had recently converted to all games. When that happened there were A LOT of PC radicals running the site, but over time, Gamespot got more fans.
Cows, because LAST GEN the PS2 was the console with all the ADD ONS. (MEMORY CARD, MULTITAP, etc.)
Lemmings, it's been said because they follow Xbox to the end, off a cliff. M$ die hard fanatics, from Windows, to Xbox. I guess you could say this gen, From Windows, to Xbox, to ZUNE, to 360! However, this Gen Cow seems a better name (MEMORY CARD, Faceplates, WiFi, Xbox Live,Battery Packs, etc.)
SHEEP - Die hard Nintendo fans, that need a Shepard (Miyamoto?)
Hermits - Reclusive bunch, live sheltered lives with advanced PC's.
Manticore - Owns all consoles.
DoDo - Extinct Bird, just Like SEGA's Consoles. Sega Fan that owned all of Sega's Consoles, and never bought any of the new systems. We have Ex Dodo here in SW, some converted to Lemmings.
The only real negative term is COW, but it stuck throughout so that's that.
WE PROBABLY SHOULD RENAME THE FANS IN THIS PLACE, the names don't stick as well as they did a whole generation ago.
Cows - Give energy and grows Strong like milk Lemmings - a form of rat, basically will tell on you to the mods Sheep - White like wii, feed them they will get fat, starve them they will get skinny, but either way they are always there Hermit - this one is just funnystylesPS3Here he is.
i know them, i cbf to bother explaining right now, they were made last gen to avoid calling everyone fanboy because it was considered, and still is considered offensive, to call someone a fanboy, some of the meanings behind them dont really hold as true today as they did yesterday
Although i dont know why they are called what they are, i find it funny that they all pretty much mean the same thing.
Sheep - Follow Nintendo anywhere, everywhere and will buy whatever game they put out
Cows - Follow Sony so much that they buy anything they bring out, hence getting milked.
Lemmings - Follow MS so much that they will follow them to the death and also buy whatever they put out.
The only different one is Hermit and Hedehogs who dont have a single provider and go into hibernation when their provider fails.
EDIT: Does anyone else also remember the point after E3 06 where cows were so close to being called crabs? funny times
Lemmings, it's been said because they follow Xbox to the end, off a cliff. However, this Gen Cow seems a better name (MEMORY CARD, Faceplates, WiFi, Xbox Live,Battery Packs, etc.)SolidTy
I don't get why lemmings are said to follow Xbox to the end. Lemmings seem the least "brand loyal" out of the three factions and alot of them had PS2's last gen. Also, it seems that Microsoft are too new in the game to have developed the same kind of blind following as Nintendo and Sony.I agree with you that cow (as in accessory milkage)would be a better description, whereas the lemming and sheep terms would be better suited to the other two factions.

i think it is more they follow each other, based on franchises like Halo and the advent of Xbox live.

At the time when the barnyard names were given out, their wasn't many PS2 fans that actually came to Gamespot. There were Sony fans, certainly, but not as many as the other factions (a lot of PC guys, a lot of Sheep, and an abnormal amount of Xbox fans), over time it's been changing, but it was due to the roots of this place being a PC ONLY SITE, it didn't exactly scream PS2 fans come to Gamespot. In fact, Many great PS2 games scores didn't do to well here either.
The Lemmings and Sheep names MAYBE weren't as accurate, but one thing was for sure, SONY fans were going to be called COWS.
Xbox Fans last gen were considered followers for buying teh Xbox on M$'s Brand alone. M$ said buy it, and they did...or so the legends went.
I used to come here all the time before I actually made an account to check out the boards, but I couldn't stand it, until late 2004 or early 2005, when I finally made an account.

they are called lemmings and have the whole brand loyalty branding because lots of people in system wars last gen felt that people who bought the xbox just bought it because microsoft made it, they bought the brand.I don't really see anybody buying a debut console just because it's made by a certain company (though I can see people buying a company's later consoles because it was made by that company).I mean, Idoubt cows bought the PS1 because it was made by Sony. Their almost over-the-topbrand loyalty seems to be something that was developed over time.

You have only been here since 2008, right?
M$ has a HUGE fanbase of M$ fanatics. Ever seen WINDOWS launch at MIDNIGHT, it's nuts, and it's for an OS! Way before 360, PS3, and Wii were EVER talked about, this place had M$ fanatics, carry overs from when GAMESPOT was a PC ONLY site.

Eheheh someone is fairly new here.Microsoft name sells. And that goes for Consoles too. Being this place a PC only place, you could only imagine the MAC VS MS topics going on here. So there were MS fanatics and that fanaticism made them buy XBox.

Everything has shifted around, once they opened up the borders (GS) for all systems. It was a slow process, but it was bound to happen. It has been a slow process, but I think the HERMITS were hurt the most. They found a new home in PC centric sites, which this site used to be.
The new 360 people are young, and don't know anything about brand, some are old PS2 or Sega converts. They are about the games, that's for sure.

So that's why there seems to be such a small amount of hermits on System Wars. It seems like the ones are left have resigned themselves to posting Crysis pics in every graphics king thread.
I
-Nintendo Sheep follow Nintendo wherever they go no matter what they do. -PC Hermits like to be locked up in their rooms (or mom's basement as some say) playing online with no RL friends. -Sony's Cows are CLEARLY getting milked but keep denying it. - An Xbox Lemming is " A person that follows another person and does everything the same as the person they are following". In other words, they ride the bandwagon and only follow the hype. They're the kind that always look at sales numbers and review scores to determine if a game is actually good or not. Lemmings have the NPD website as their homepage. :) - A Manticore is someone who is a fan of multiple consoles. Manticores are, by definition, "A legendary monster having the head of a man, the body of a lion, and the tail of a dragon or scorpion.TheBigBadGRIM
I wonder if the definition of a lemming and cow should be swapped this gen.
Cows aren't getting milked so much but the lemming definition clearly describes them even the sales, because they go on about it just as much as lemmings.
And vice versa for lemmings.
