360- It will sell really good still. Halo 3 will still help out sales.

PS3- I am the most curious about. Even with a extra week since this NPD was 5 weeks it still sold less then the NPD before last. Also if it was a normal 4 week NPD then PS3 would have fallen below 100k again if you look at weekly sales. So interested to see how it does with a 4 week NPD comming up.

I wouldn't say price drops are panic induced decisions. Price drops happen all the time.

Realize I'm not defending Sony or the PS3 (don't think it's worth owning yet), that being said I don't think price cuts are a viable way to look at Sony as worrying.

Sony overestimated what gamers are willing to pay for... They overpriced their console (Whether or not they would take a loss from it). The large price drop is reasonable because it was just to high from the start.

All thats on my mind for the month of november is COD4 and Uncharted :D

In turn...

1. None of the consoles have been this highly priced (worth mentioning consoles I should reiterate).
2. There was a cheaper model, not just the $600 edition. A $500 edition released as well.
3. They didn't just cut the price they cut it's features.

It's not as simple as your question makes it out to be.

If the sales figures in the USare anything like Europe after the price drop, then i would say the PS3 is going to utterly hammer the 360 and the Wii in November.

People have been complaining about the high price of the PS3 since it launched back on Nov 17th 06. Sony is lowering the price to appeal to those who were complaining.

I think you should like the PS3 more and so should everyone else. Afterall it is the most technologically sound console.

Actually, the Xbox was droped $100 in price after 6 months, which was 1/3 of its cost just like $200 is for the original price of the PS3.

I thought that so far the actual console sales have been doing suprisingly good, but wow does software attach rates suck like a gaping chest wound.

It's so bad that they literally need to remove BC in order to sell PS3 games. Well, what did they expect they sold it to us as a movie player then are suprised that half the installed base only buys movies.

Sales dont matter when: 1) You dont care 2) you cant play sales 3) You own all 3 consolesHeil68

Sales shouldn't matter to you in terms of your immediate enjoyment of a system, but if you happen to like a particular system then you're probably going to be at least a little curious about how well it's doing. Sales determine where you'll have to go to get the games you want next generation.

You can't look at PS3 like any other console. PS3 uses high end new technology. New technology is always really expensive at first, and quickly drops. Look at high end PC hardware. Many times $600 graphics card are $200 a year later. If you use modern technology, the manufacturing price drops quickly. We should all be glad it got reflected in consumer price.

If you use ancient technology like the Wii, it's going to stay prettymuch the same. Nintendo was prettymuch ready for $99 price point at launch...... that thing is such an overpriced joke.

Methinks Sony didn't underestimate their competition, but rather they (grossly) overestimated the staying power of brand loyalty. They figured happy Playstation fans who have been gaming with them from the beginning would stick with the brand through just about anything, even a wacky pricetag.

Other systems werent 600 dollars neither. These price drops are not because sony panics whatsoever. soon as there parts dropped in price for them they had to drop it to make it affordable. You know the funny thing is is that the PS3 sales are on par with the 360 in its first year. not bad for a 600 dollar system. you people and these threads make me laugh.

1. the PS3 although is not selling as well as the 360 has steadily gained marketshare amongst the Wii and the 360. On vgchartz.com, every week PS3's percentage goes up. Last week it was around 16 percent now its at 17.3 percent.

2. Even though Sony has yet to turn a profit with their PS3, the company as a whole has. On the other hand M$ just lost a huge amount of money because their violated anti-trust laws with Windows again. The amount is close to 800million just on fines not including lawyer fees and ect..

It may look forboding on the surface, but remember, the iPhone dropped $200 within a couple of months, and it's pretty evident that it's still extremely popular.

Sony is just trying to give people what they want (bargain bin price) with the 40 gig SKU that is stripped down and not a price drop that everyone seems to think they did. The close out sale on the 60 gig was to just get the current stock sold out ASAP.

On the other hand M$ has been releaseing different SKU's just to try and counter the power of the PS3 (at a increaseing price each time). But yet they are still so far behind in technology with the 360's hardware.
