I've beaten all the RPG Mario games (except the M&L games which I disliked). SMRPG actually runs significantly smoother than the original Paper Mario. I think you're confusing the amazing animation and high framerate of PM2 and SPM for the choppyness of PM64.
[QUOTE="ProtossRushX"]really tired of ppl having paper mario sigs an avatar's an stuff that game is a massive failure gameplay wise for casuals and hardcore ppl its one of the worst games on the ds/wii and cube in all its forms

Congratulations!! this has to have been your 10th post in a row filled with misinformedness and terrible grammar. It seems that every thread you post it ends up with a big mushroom cloud over it. It seems now you fail at failing in this thread. No that is not a double negative.

The reason Paper Mario doesn't run as smooth as SMRPG is because Paper Mario was pushing the N64 to it's limits. The lighting, high polygon counts (for that time), and just amazing effects all put a strain on the old 64 far in it's lifetime. You can't say the same for SMRPG.[QUOTE="theheavydrinker"]Seeing such a terrible comparison makes me think that you've never even seen Paper Mario in motion...[QUOTE="TheOneMan"][QUOTE="theheavydrinker"]Between those two screens, I'd say that Super Mario RPG looks better. Tecnical debate. I, personally feel that SMRPG is much easier to look at, and has aged much better than the original Paper Mario game. I think Inteligent Systems understood that when creating the second game because it's incredibly smooth and has an excellent artistic direction. To claim the first game has an art direction is a bit difficult to do since all the levels (excluding Shy Guy's Toy box) are based on other mario games (including SMRPG). SMRPG, on the other hand, runs extremely smoothly, has a lot of unique characters and locations, and has timeless visual appeal.
The fact that Paper Mario 64 looks so "old" by todays standards proves that its art direction wasn't in the right place. If you look at SMRPG or Paper Mario 2, they haven't aged a bit artistically- they could both pass off for modern games (SMRPG on a handheld like most SNES games but only because everyone nowadays thinks 3d = new).
I laugh at your comment about kiddy text and story. If you'd ever played Super Paper Mario, you wouldn't call it kiddy. The game is incredibly dark.Tylendal
ok does paper mario have a dark battle with a final fantasy alien who wants to destroy the world like CULEX
i doubt anythin offers as much as a challenge in any of paper mario compared to culex did in mario rpg cuz square knows how to give ppl a super tough side boss where as nintendo makes everythin way too easy in paper mario

Buddy, You keep killing your own arguments... I wouldn't call Super Mario RPG a challenging game by any standard though I will agree that it's a better game than the Paper Mario games (though I do like the Paper Mario games a LOT).

Well that didn't seem like your original incentive but if that's the case, I feel that Paper Mario stomps SMRPG in both art direction and technical merits. SMRPG just has this life-less, unrecognizable look to it. While Paper Mario look is very specific and distinct, allowing it to become easily recognizable. That's just my 2 cents though...remember it's all opinion.

Not just the universe, EVERY universe (which really just makes one really f'ing big universe but that is beyond the point)
Paper Mario had a more "organic" feel to it- something that wasn't really inside the N64's technical lmitations which really hampered its framerate and overall "look." A lot of textures look smeared, and a lot of character sprites ended up looking a bit less colorful than they would've had the game been done Super Mario RPG style. So, while, I'm not arguing "n64 VS SNES", I'm arguing art directing + techincally sound graphics vs reduced art direction vs technically inplausible graphics. That's, and the envirionments are very smilar makes Super Mario RPG look better (my opinion, of course)
You could argue that PM64 looks better simply due to its detailed backdrops, but the game isn't as "animated" as SMRPG, which is a shame considering all the detail that went into it. Intelligent Systems fixed this in Paper Mario 2 as all the characters have absurd amounts of expressions.
I think part of the reason SMRPG's world is much more alive is also due to Square's proficiency in making such worlds. If you look as Final Fantasy 6, every character has a set of expressions that let you know exactly what they're thinking. Not to take a shot at intelligent systems, but they picked up a dead project in Super Mario RPG 2 and tried going with it (having only experience making Fire Emblem). While they did a decent job with Paper Mario 64, they didn't really know what they were doing- thus the bad engine causing framerate issues and blurry, colorless sprites and textures.
[QUOTE="FusionApex"]What? I've never played a paper mario in my life, but I can't even read what you dislike about it.ProtossRushX
well it doesnt live up to original mario rpg for harcore rpg gamers
its fails next to casual game rpgs like pokemon
and yeah its all around disapointed me it tries to fake bein a platformer still an i know tons of friends who were disapointed cuz they thoguht it was going to be a normal mario game where platform an stuff an it was half craptacular rpg with dialogue mixed in
How in the hell do you define "hardcore"? Mmm, the old "hardcore gamers don't play it" rebuttal. How lame, cow.
ok so who here would have rather had square made the super mario rpg's on n64/cube/wii then nintendo's other team doin paper mario

This is your thread and all but judging by your posting history your opinion on anything Nintendo related is pretty much null.
I feel that nobody can say a game sucks until they've actually played that game. And, y'know what? I'd be willing to bet quite a large sum on the fact that you've never played Paper Mario. You know what? I don't even think you played any of them.
They're great games because of the catchy dialogue, the intriguing paper-ness in a 3-D world, the comedic boss fights in a whimsical world. Granted, if you were talking about Super Paper Mario, you might have a point if you wrote it well. But... this? This is just wrong man. You just insulted one of the better games of recent times (... I'm biased on this - I admit. I simply loved Paper Mario and I adored Thousand Year Door - kill me.), and butchered whatever argument you had with bad grammar.
I consider myself a hardcore gamer. I've been addicted to strategy games (Rome: Total War, Civilization IV), I've sat drooling in front of a screen for hours with shooters (Halo series, Goldeneye - want Crysis pretty bad)... but of all those games, I'd still play Paper Mario for a longer time - and probably have more enjoyment out of it, just because the dialogue is so great and the battles are just so much fun.
So next time you rat out on a game, think about what you say before you press "Submit". Because you didn't when you posted this.
I just came here to say that you have some of the worst writing skills i have ever seen. How old are you, if i may ask?
Also, the Paper Mario series are excellent. You have brain problems.

Sorry, but the dialogue in SMRPG was hilarious. And the PM series takes that formula of dialogue and 1-ups it in every way. It's one of the few games that had me laughing the whole way through. From the way the bosses always had a sense of self-awareness, to the way Luigi would know that he was a loser, and tried to copy Mario on his quests. If you haven't played it, you have no idea what you're talking about.
I didn't say you've never played SMRPG, I was saying you've probably never played a Paper Mario game, which would seem evident at this point.wait a sec so ur tellin me i havent played super mario rpg dude re read my OP i state how awesome super mario rpg

So you have never played Paper Mario before.
You better get up and play one of the best RPG series ever made.
And the dialogue is what made the series so popular and highy reviewed.
And I'm not even going to explain why they are in 2D, that's something you will realise WHEN YOU PLAY THE GAME.
