What is it with Cows and using Cells application in completely unrelated areas as an argument for the PS3?

I remember when they were posting articles about freaking servers and tried to spin it as being PS3 related.

Yeah, the i7 Extreme: 8 logical cores, all running at 3.33 Ghz, can be overclocked to above 4.... Aaaaah.

The cell turns into a Pentium 4 compared to that thing.

Quite impressive, but recording really isn't a good benchmark of real world, gaming preformance.

Though the exclusives on the PS3 show that the Cell + RSX is a pretty heafty combination. Personally I am seeing a bigger and bigger gap between the PS3 and 360 games.

Furthermore, the Cell chip is about 10 times more powerful than the Intel Core 2 Duo chip found in many desktop and laptop PCs.

Why would you buy one of those....:| I'm perfectly content with my XBR4, I love my HDTV.

It makes sense that the Cell would be well suited to this type of thing.

We allready know PS3´s CPU is superior. Unfortunatly its GPU is not that great and the fact its memory is splitted makes PS3 a tecnically unbalanced hardware i think. Games are the best way to find what a console is able to do and game wise (tecnically) theres no difference between both consoles (PS3 has better looking exclusives, 360 has better looking multiplats). Nothing like in other gens where there were allways a tecnically superior system: Snes >>> Megadrive, Xbox >>> PS2, etc

It isn't, apparently the site hasn't heard of application specific performance...

Cell has lots of high floating point performance, which gives it advantages over traditional processors when it comes to tasks that benefit from those sort of calculations. However the Core 2 Duo is a general purpose processor, giving it a much more well rounded range of performance and hence making it more suitable for a wide range of different applications.

It is misleading to just look at FP performance and declare Cell to be ten times as powerful like Sony does, it is a one dimensional way of looking at performance. I'm surprised a site would still be talking about Cell like it is 2005, normally you only hear stuff like that from Cows/Sony fanboys playing on misleading numbers.
