The price cut is not saving the PS3

The latest numbers from the PS3 are coming in from various sources. Anytime there is a price cut the system is going to sell better. The problem is that the sales tend to taper off. Pulmonary numbers aren't very promising though.

As you can see there was some significant increase but the PS3 is still only selling half as many systems as the Wii and not as many as the PS2. You have to assume that these sales numbers will continue for a bit but the PS3 will probably drop back again as is common with any price drop.

In case you don't trust vgcharts here is a Punchjump article talking about ebay sales. Essentially the article says that even though the PS3's sales have increased significantly on ebay it's still in last place on sales there.

Why are you checking the "pulmonary" numbers? Does the PS3 have a heart condition? Finally the news lemmings have been hoping for! :P

IMO, the PS3 sales will probably taper off within a week or two. They will probably be a little higher than they were before the price drop in the long run, but I really don't think they will stay above X360 sales for long. It'll probably be like when it was released in Europe, a quick spike in sales and then a drop to almost exactly the same sales level as before. After all, it is still the most expensive console.

Yup. When the 60gigs are sold out at $499 and only the 80gig bundle at $599 is available, sales will drop for a while. I think if they drop the price of the 80gig down to $499 like many people seem to think then sales will pretty much stay the same for a while until a serious price drop to $399 or even $299. Sales of consoles see the biggest increase around the $199 price point that some call the sweet spot and this is one reason the Wii is selling out at $249.

Look I know it was popular to hate Sony and the PS3. But those times are gone. The games look good. The console dropped in price and its helping sales.

Last I checked Wii owners were also waiting for games. In August it all starts with Lair and then its a a snowball rolling. Sony knows what E3 is about, hyping games and thats what they did. You can buy a PS3 now and look forward to alot of thosetitles in just 2-3 months time.

In those 2 or 3 days(depening on time) PS3 surged from probably a ways under the 360 to a ways over seems like its surely helping. I think next week the PS3 will sell more by a greater margin.

Honestly, it doesn't matter. It really isn't a price drop at all. The 20gb was $500 before, and the 80GB will be the new $600 model. This tatic comes from the electronic instrustry (adding more features at base prices, selling lesser models until stock is gone so the the feature-rich will take over)

Because 20GB plus an in-house developed game does NOT equal $100. The price cut is just a way to move units and get more units in homes. They are taking a serious financial beating doing this. It hints of slight desperation.

The numbers may seem small but atleast there sales are improving, and that is a good thing for sony. I look for the ps3 to really start taking off around october near holiday seasons. This is when all the great games will be out around that time and then u will see ps3's selling very well.

So..before the price drop Sony was stupid for selling a 600 console. But they drop the price and its desperation. Pick one because either way to you, Sony loses. I'll take the price drop because you're just going to piss and moan no matter what they do.

short version of response, it will be $499 regardless what sells out. If the 60 gig sales out and all that is left is the 80gig, it will go to $499....if that doesn't happen they'll suddenly have a NEW SKU that is $499 or even $399 (the new rumored price). One thing is for sure, the removeval of the PS2 chipset and drop in price of Blu-Ray technology....the PS3 will be cheaper than $499 by the end of the year. When that happens I have no idea but my guess is once the 60 gig sku run out.....you don't replace it with a limited bundle edition sku. They can't announce it yet because that will kill sales everywhere.

Expect something around Halo street date....it would be just like Sony to try to do something like this.

It was gamespy's # 1 game at E3. Not alot of hype? Perhaps not in the mainstream. Any game site worth a darn has covered this game and its going to be amazing.
