My problem with iOS gaming is that 99% of the games fvcking suck

This. Oh and Fibble, a game made by Crytek that has graphics that will blow your mind gets the same score as freaking Angry Birds.

Yeah, other than just a few good games I've found (like Coconut Dodge, Temple Run, World of Goo, Plants vs Zombies, Peggle, Bejeweled, Doodle Jump, Angry Birds quadrilogy, Magnetic Billiards), I don't usually see much of interest. Infinity Blade looks like the typical console game I'd rather avoid, except even more shallow and boring, so no thanks. There's some good stuff on there, but like you say, so hard to find. That's why the iPod Touch isn't one of my definitive gaming platforms.

I just purchased the new iPad recently and downloaded a few action games which requires the use of buttons. These virtual buttons were absolute crap. But some games like bullet hell games (shmups) are really good on the ipad.

And on topic, yes there are too many games to distinguish between crap and good.

EDIT: May I also add that Infinity blade sucks? I don't see why this game is rated so highly. The whole games is just swipe swipe swipe. Thats rubbish gameplay even though graphics are top notch. Infinity blade 1/2 is so novel compared to proper console games.

Its a market saturated with horrible games, Valve are very careful about selecting titles for their store, without creating a market full of generally poor titles. However there are tons of excellent games on iOS.

No, the problem with iOS games is that they have no good organization of those games.

I'm thinking that's going ot be part of this whole thing with the Apple CEO meeting with Gaben.

I'm really amazed people put this much care into iOS gaming. Do you really spend this much in public transportation? Because the image of somebody playing iOS games in his home, when he has access to PC or console seems really weird to me.

I don't get the impression anybody is being particularly precious about this. It's just about correcting misassumptions. I have an iphone and an ipad, I rarely game on them myself but if I'm at a bus stop games like word warp are perfect for killing a minute or two. It's not about competing with current gaming as it stands. And whilst games like platformers can be difficult with virtual buttons I contend that certain games are actually enhanced by a touch screen. I'd rather use a touch screen than a gamepad for a strategy game for example. Mouse is obviously king on this but whatever.

People say there are no games on it. False. And some of them do cost full retail price on other consoles.

There are some good games out there. You just have to put your expectations as a mobile flash game device. It's not aimed for us as actual gamers who come to post on a video game website. It's more aimed to pass the time here and there, otherwise I'm sure the iPhones would come with bigger batteries if their main purpose was gaming.

I know the iPhone doesn't support flash, but I was talking about games you could find on kongregate on a PC, for free.

verbtex
Did you see that list I posted? Even Bungie's original founders are working on iOS specific games for more 'core' gamer types. There are a lot of flash-game style games, but there are also a large number of well produced games for actual gamers.

I would caution anyone who doesn't know much about the App Store to think before they speak about what kind of titles are there. Was is right about organization, it's time for a big change there. While I think he's right that part of Gabe's meeting with Tim was focused on organizing games on the App Store, I think more was talked about as well. The CEO of Apple didn't need to meet Gabe personally to ask, "How do you organize the games?!"

The main problem is most of it are just as good as most of the web browser games and you have to pay money for those crap. And some of the potentially good games like gta 3 has bad controls.

I play Dead Space and Civilization at home, as well as Avadon and NBA Jam. I'll even play Beat Hazard, Bard's Tale, or AaaaAAAaaAAAaAAaa.

Why? I mean, why would you play those games when most of them arere obviously inferior compared to their PC/console version? I'm not bashing you or the games themselves, I'm genuinelly interested. What makes you pick something like mobile Dead Space, when you can just a well be playing Dead Space 2? Is it immiedietacy? Do DS2 required more effort and you just wanted something simplier at the time?

NBA Jam is f*cking fantastic on the go, especially with a friend. DS isn't 2, but it's still really creepy, especially with headphones, and once again, is on the go. The other ones are also unique on the go. NBA Jam especially. I got my niece playing Bluetooth MP when we're waiting in line for whatever new activity she has.

Yes, the App Store is horribly organized. But until it has a library containing some truly excellent games, it isn't worth organizing anyway.

I'm sure they are fine when you are away from your console/PC, but why play them if you can play the (generally) better version on the PC/consoles. Although I guess in the case of DS you could be excused since it's not DS1 or DS2, but a brand new game. Games such as Beat Hazard and NBa Jam are available on the PC/consoles and are better (especially in the case of Beat Hazard).

AaaAaaaAAaa is much better on a mobile platform, as is Beat Hazard and Anomaly: Warzone. There are plenty of times when playing games on those platforms is just fine. I don't usually dedicate too much quality time to my console or computer for pure game time (until D3.... ...), but during commercial breaks when I'm watching something with my wife, or before bed if I'm not tired, it's nice to have the option to play something, and not worry about saving or being bound to other hardware. So in some ways it is immediacy, in others it's because the game fundamentally works better on mobile platforms.

I think the bigger problem with ios gaming is that it's generally really bad.

The problem with IOS gaming: there aren't any buttons or analog sticks. Good luck finding a whole lot of quality games on IOS that make effective use of the limited controls. I've had an iPhone since launch, and the only games I can refer you to are: Mirror's Edge - not bad at all of a concept. Transformers G1 Awakening - good turned based strategy game Red Alert - limited vs the PC games but not bad for a bit of a time waster tChess Pro - good if your into chess Tron (not Tron Legacy) - tanks are really good, but they recently took out multiplayer which was a big reason to get this. Still not a bad game at all.

I guess I can understand your point, even if I don't share your taste. I guess that's why mobile gaming completely doesn't interest me. When I sit to a game I sit for longer periods of time. Never had any fun jumping just for few minutes. I'm not really into games designed to work well for short bursts, even when they are on PC.

usually games can make convince me to also go into platforms I'm not usually attracted to, but for iOS the few games I would like are either already on PC (and most of the time in much better versions) or have more complex and features rich alternatives on PC.
