the ps2 DID NOT become number one on its own merits and why ps3 will fail

Its simple,  the ps2 DID NOT sell it's self. Anyone who can see past FANBOY logic knows this.

  The reasons the ps2 sold so good are GTA and Final Fantasy.  And a good head start.....sound familiar?  You see, now that GTA is multiplat and the fact that FF will more than likely come to 360....and theres enough going around to support this....sony has NOTHING to offer its hardcore base....or anyone for that matter, esp the casual gamer.

   And dont even get me started with the fact that MS has secured MORE 1st party hits, 3rd party hits, The creators of Final fantasy and GTA, BOTH respective creators now making exclusive games for the 360, along a respectable "foot in the door" in the land to the east....and only fanboys will deny this because the REST of the industry has already admitted to this.

  Microsoft also leads the way with XBL and has MORE Multimedia support(burger king=record sales with thier BK games, Mountin Dew, and the has become the MEDIA choice product in sitcoms and movies).

   You see, in the past, sony had ALL the games....its no secret. Its called exclusives. and while MANY a sony fanboy are now crying..."EXCLUSIVES dont matter anymore"....lol...and its like when the little kid screams " YOUR NOT MY BUDDY ANYMORE". of course cows are gonna say this...as GTA now sux, and if Final Fantasy and MGS(overrated) comes to MS...im sure these games will also become overnight "OH WELL THESE GAMES SUCK ANYWAYZ".

   Its not the 90's, sony does NOT have anymore claim to "WE HAVE ALL THE GAMES", and the Wii is stealing more of sony's thunder than any cow will admit.  And i havent even Named the Killer apps and exlusive GIANTS that Microsoft has under its belt. i agree to some extent,sony ruled last gen mostly because of the crazy amount of third party exclusives the system had,heck i think the best sony made game was god of war.basically,sony can't handle the load by itself.

Man, you guys are asses.

I only own 2 of the three consoles,(360 and Wii) and I'm proud of both, and I want a PS3 too! As soon as I get 600 bucks :(.

Anyway I'm indifferent towards any of the consoles because I've realized that every console is great, and they're each different.

Besides there's no way to know which console will have better sales, and this is not an indicator of console quality.

But obviously there no hope for any of you cows, sheep, or lemmings (Whatever any of those mean. Seriously tell me about that) because you're too afraid to dip your feet in another pool, if you catch my drift.

All this bickering really makes me saddened. I mean come on you guys are fighting over games. So childish!

PS2 was a hit because PlayStation was a trusted brand name for games when PS1 dethroned Nintendo. That's why PS2's sold like hot cakes even though it didn't get its first "killer-app" until June, and it's first system-seller until October. It was trusted brand name that gave it hype in the beginning and the games helped it survive the long run.

The Xbox was not a popular brand name, in fact the 360 didn't really get any momentum until the PS3 started to flop mid-2006, and Sony ruined its trust with losing exclusives and the price. The Xbox 360 is doing things the Xbox should've done and the PS1 did - get third party support and be cheap.

Devs really had no choice because the PS2 was a guaranteed success whether or not they lied. Nintendo flopped with the N64 and most people didn't think the Xbox was going to be successful (and it wasn't really).

Yeah they did BS alot, but they really didn't need to because the PlayStation was a trusted brand name - so they could have hardcore fans buy the console the first few months then sprinkle a few killer-apps (like GT3) until the real killer-apps came out (GTAIII, MGS2, FFX, DMC, J&D, etc. etc.). Sony though has always been a BSer.

xbox1 was clearly better than the ps2 in a pure console vs console comparison

it just had a much larger third party support and it was able to establish itself from the success of psx before the 360 came into play

but MS made some smart moves, Sony made some dumb ones and now third party support will be much more even and Sony will no way dominate again

It had nothing to do with the great games that were made available for it?

I doubt that even ONE person bought it because of those things.... 

I'm not saying it, and I guess you're smart enough to realize it. 110 million people didn't want to buy the PS2 from day one. Before they did, good games were needed, before that, devs are needed, and to attract them, you need to show them people are interested in your console. There are tens of ways of doing it (attracting that initial userbase), and Sony decided it was very correct to lie, and the worst part is that their lies were incredibly ridiculous (120 000 000 poligons a sec, but with all effects turned off and low framerate, still people believe the PS2 would look 5 times better than the XBox and GC... and what I stated above) but people believed them...

I don't remember Sony needing to lie for the PS1, yet they went the anti-ethical way for the PS2 - arrogance, anyone? And they decided to do the same with PS3 (Seven controllers, 4D graphics, "We're not interested in gimmicks - aka Wiimote - but here's the 'fantastic innovation' Sixaxis!" - E3 2006, next gen doesn't start until se way so (Gears and Mass Effect anyone?) and a fair dose of arrogance everyday) and I'm glad they didn't started well, so now they can rethink if it's worth to act as if the Playstation brand is the new christianism or whatsoever.
