So did MGS4 maxed out the PS3?
This topic is locked from further discussion.
no kojima apprently used all 7 processors but obviously you can maximise the engine to run better and free up cpu power there will be even better games than mgs4 down the track, mgs4 looks totally amazing but you still have games like killzone 2 and final fantasy 13 that will probably look even better.
Although if it was for mgs4 id be totally happy because the games plays and looks amazing
So did MGS4 maxed out the PS3?

Most PS3 fanboys would say yes and they did say that.
Does that make them right?
I am asking a question not saying it as a fact. Is the PS3 maxed out?
My sarcastic original response answered that.

hmm PS3_3DO asking is the PS3 maxed out?
Yeah we know where youre going with this.
lol halo 3 wouldnt have maxed out the snes, it was the **** engine they used, wasnt it the same engine as halo 1 and 2 just brought into next gen, bloody lazy if you ask me, they needed to make a whole new engine for halo 3 but instead it looked like halo 2 with shiny rocks and jaggies everywhere

Didn't they use a new engine? Anyway I think you should get a HDTV set because it looks good in HD. Also the environments are a lot bigger then in MGS4.

uh... no. it's not lazy, it's smart. the engine visibly scaled up very nicely on the 360. making a new engine from scratch would have been pointless for Bungie.
Well. As of yesterday, there were NO used copies of the PS3 Geezer game for sale on Amazon. Today there are 4 copies selling in "used - like new" condition & they're trying to sell it at the same dang price as the release value! Fat chance of someone buying it. Basically the cows are playing this game as quickly as possible, having a few sighs of pleasure, oohing & aahing, & then they are ditching the game as fast as humanly possible in the used market. Talk about 0 replay value.
Did gears max out the 360?carlisledavid79If not, it came pretty damn close. The 360 is nothing more than a PC that says XBOX360 on it. For an experienced PC developer like EPIC, I'm sure they were able to squeeze most of the juice out of the 360 as far as graphics go. The technology was already dated by the time Gears was released. :|

Yeah, Gears 2 pretty much proves it. You need a magnifying glass to see any texture improvements or other things that were improved over Gears 1.

The lighting is really good though, definite improvements there.

To be fair, though, it looks like its reached its limits in terms of texture details and particle effects, no?

That proves... nothing actually.
There were several Halo 3 sales the day it came out, people do that. I do that quite often, game hopping as I call it.

Pretty much, I don't see any more great improvements.

how about you play the game yourself and see if it really does lack replay value, rather than make such statements.

More damage control...sigh. 0 replay value? I'm currently on my 2nd playthrough. Haven't even tried MGO yet.

Bigger, and only lasting like 8 hours, like anna nicole, bigger melons than eva longoria, but not better than eva longoria
Also, MGS looks allot better and is allot longer, and got a 10 on lemming spot, higher than any halo, or xbox 1 and 2 game for that matter counting exclusives...
LoL, bigger enviorments, is that the best you can come up with?
My god people, how long have you been playing games, 2 years
Ever console gets pushed, and graphics improve over the life of the console, it has happed with every system from Atari VCS and it will happen this gen, NO NO NO, gears did not max out the 360, and MGS4 did not max out the PS3
Yes, and any better looking games such as Resident Evil 5, Far Cry 2 and Killzone 2 are all time/space anomalies.thrones
lol, dude, your sarcasm has been killing me lol. like that one other thread, I think the guy actually thought you gave in and were agreeing with him lol.
Hmmm I see this going down a bad road so I'mma throw in my 2 cents. PC's win. You have to accept that. No matter what, PC will always win. Now the Ps3 has an overall edge in outputing computing power, the Xbox 360 does present great graphics. Now the reason you see minor differences in games is because they are ported to one console from another. Being that the Ps3 can handle a larger surplus of information, most of it is pretty useless if no one is willing to take advantage of it. In my honest opinion, the xbox needs some work. It's a great console, but it needs some work. It can dish out great games like Gears of war, but comparing it to MGS4 is like apples to oranges. I have seen GOW2 and although it's very promising I wasn't impressed. The textures look nice, but it looks pretty much like GOW1 which just use more particals and diffrent lighting effects and presented it nicely, but it it looks like there hasn't been a big enough leap from the first to the 2nd to say it's that impressive. MGS4 on the other hand is quite simply amazing, and it isn't even that close to the true output of the Ps3.
The best part about MGS4 is that it's all real time graphics. It is pushing the Ps3, but it can be pushed alot harder. and by pushed I mean optimizing the 7 cell chips(for an overall processing power of 25 gflops, comparing to the best quad core outputing 30Gflops, which will be soon surpassed, even now if you have dual slotted motherboards) to their fullest is still a long road. Because comparing on paper, people look at numbers and say things like "xbox has bigger numbers" Well, Being that they did sarafice power in the areas that count, just isn't able to keep up with the Ps3. Because when it comes down to it, power does count. Now the Ps3 is limited by the graphics card to an extent, but again, this console was developed with what technology they had available at the time. And with the xbox, it's the same thing. It had the best technology at the time at their disposal. But it seems like they cheaped out in the end, and still suffering losses over 4 billion. So if you ask me, Is the Ps3 maxed, Is the Xbox maxed? I say go look at Crysis for a bit. And tell me if my Ps3 or xbox can produce anything near that.
Because when a game maxes out a console the console dies shortly afterwards due to the fact every game will be inferior.
Right?

Because 4 copies selling in "used-like new" section is a lot considering the million+ it sold. I don't think I've ever heard anyone say something so stupid before, no offense.
Btw, Eastereggs/MGO say hi :|

As for the graphical detail, perhaps that is reaching the breaking point in terms of RAM capacity.
Can you provide proof of that? Can the camera be arbitrarily adjusted? The best part about MGS4 is that it's all real time graphics.

Only some cutscenes, the rest is recorded videos using the games engine but with higher detail. Still looks quite bland for cutscenes and worse than Uncharted cutscenes and both by far worse than Crysis cutscenes (atleast one generation).
[QUOTE="PS3_3DO"]I don't think so.So did MGS4 maxed out the PS3?

Kojima laready confirmed they maxed out the Cell and PS3, this is facts.

You can shake the controller to reset the OctoCamo during the cut scenes if that counts lol.
