PS3 got hurt more by being overpriced. Look at the sales of both from the start of the gen until now. The 360 is still ahead.

Yeah yeah year head start for the 360. I guess you could say they would be tied or very close in sales if they came out the same time with the problems you mentioned.

The PS3 bring over priced hurt the launch badly. But it was also hurt by the poor launch library.

RROD hurt, but MS ate crow and fixed peoples Xboxs for free, no matter how many times it happended. They took the loss, and came out better for it.

Niether system could compete with the Wii's lower price and fancy motion controls that extremely casual gamers thought was "cool"

The ps3 was expensive right away so not that many people bought it, and some people in the end got pissed off with their xbox purchase. It would probably be the ps3 being more expensive but it doesn't really matter now.

I think RROD might actually be helping 360 some. I've been reading about that Walmart promo coming up and there are actually people saying they are probably going to pick one up as a spare. I can't even believe that.EmperorSupreme

That's also true. When lemmings say that people buying more 360s because of RROD is a lie since the warranty covers everything I can't believe it since I know several people who have bought several 360s for different circumstances regarding the RROD.

It's pretty much the same way they do business in the software market when releasing Vista didn't work for them now they release Vista 1.1 renamed as Windows 7 and make many people buy the slightly enhanced version of the same thing. The same happens with the 360 and its several processor iterations.

I seriously do not understand how the PS3 was overpriced... Being expensive and being overpriced are 2 different things. Yes, the PS3 was expensive, but the equipment in the system was by far under priced. How is a state of the art cpu(at the time) and a bluray player being sold together at $599 when a stand alone bluray player was worth $1200? I am not a fanboy by any means, but I'll admit if I had to choose 1 system it would be the ps3 because of the fact that it's hardware is more stable and doesn;t have such a high failure rate. When I had a 360 I loved it, but it died 3 times on me and I cleaned it everyday. I'd rather pay 600 for a state of the art system(when it was released) that is very durable and reliable than pay $400 for a console that has a high risk of breaking.

The PS3 was never overpriced. Even at $600, Sony was losing money on every console sold. A more accurate description would be that the PS3 had too many features including Blu-ray, which caused the console to cost too much. Overpriced makes it sound like Sony was trying to rip people off which was not the case. If anything, the PS3 was underpriced then and still is today technically.

Well look at it this way.

Whereas in previous gens the Playstation brand had like 70% of the market share this gen it has.....20%-25%?

That price hurt the PS3 much more so than the RROD hurt the Xbox 360

Overall PS3 being expensive hurt the most. If the PS3 would have been built exclusively with gaming in mind it would have done a lot better and would no doubt have a big lead over the 360 by now. However the PS3 was designed with HD-DVD vs Blu-ray as a major focus, so it ended up being a somewhat weak gaming console.

But WAIT i thought the RROD helped the 360 in sales! :P I know I'm on my second one..... the same can be said for most of my friends.
