We are 2 years into the consoles life cycle and they haven't added the ability to play a fucking CD. Is it important to the success of the console? No it's not. But I'm at a loss as to why the PS4 has gone backwards in so many ways compared to it's predecessors. There's a comment I read in response to some shill who said CD's are outdated tech on some random forum that sums it up for me:

"If they could just include everything then they can win, PC's don't have this issue, you don't get a brand new Intel Core I7 with 16 GB RAM, Windows 7 64bit with 3 TB Hard Drive and a super douper new graphics card and find that you can now not play or rip from CD's anymore on your new Blu-Ray optical drive, in fact you can use whatever older technology you like on it even a floppy drive if you can find the right hardware or driver. It is only proprietary rules and restrictions that prevent them from adding something like CD playback to the powerful PS4 which should be childs play!
The PS3 was a machine where they more or less built on everything that had come before, but the PS4 has actually gone backwards." - Bill Clinton
And he's absolutely right. Shills are making every excuse in the book like ''they wanted to have the right features at launch'' as if CD playback would have somehow fucked them over. And then there's those who say to the post above 'Oh that makes no sense, that's like saying the mega drive can't play cassette tapes but early computers can!' But there's a difference, I can still buy music in CD format these days. In fact I'd say most LP sales are in CD format even today. There's no excuse not to include it.
How is it the PS1, PS2, PS3 could do it and the PS4 can't? How is it that the Xbox, 360 and One can do it? How is it that every other PS release built upon everything that came before, and PS4 has actually gone backwards? So what Bill said.
I mean it's obviously not a massive issue or else people would still be hounding at Sony's door about it, but I just don't like how PS4 launched so anemic compared to other consoles before it. It's a basic feature, it doesn't need taking away.
What do the people think?
