the pwnage that was the Dreamcast

Anyone remember the Dreamcast, the only casualty of the war last gen. A remarkable system that will go down as ahead of its time. Making this list really makes me wish I didn't sell it, especially because of Marvel Vs Capcom and Jet Set Radio (drools). I made this thread mainly as a distraction for all of the other "Gamespotz is the biased" and "PS3 gots owned", I thought we could talk about something different for a change. So here is the list of awesome games for the ill forgotten Dreamcast. Enjoy.

That little console was the Real innovation console and it's pitiful to see what has become of my favorite old VG company of all time.

Seriously, the Dreamcast should have been last gens Xbox360: The supposedly underpowered (according to Sony, again) system that had the best games. Unfortunately, Sony's BS was to much for Sega's shallow pockets to counter.

Sony tried the exact same "just wait until our system comes out" crap against MS, but got b!t(h slapped for it! Everyone rememeber when somebody at MS (Peter, I believe) said "We can't wait for the PS3 to come out. It is hard to fight against smoke and mirrors, but when people see our product and theirs side by side, they will see what we've been trying to tell them all along" (paraphrasing)". MS did exactly that, and I can't be happier. Glad somebody finally took them down.

Heck, I don't like Nintendo really either, but congrats to them for reclaiming their position in videogames. You need to sell some SOFTWARE now, but good start none the less. Luckily for me, I don't really see you as competition. :-)

Software-wise, the Dreamcast was HANDS DOWN the best system last gen considering it was only really out for 2 years.

1 - AAAA

9 - AAAE

14 - AAA

49 - AA

...In TWO YEARS. I think this kind of quality will not be matched for some time.

relax huey. MS ain't dishing out no revenage for sega. I am sega man myself but dont blame their failure on sony if they had the money they would have lived threw it like xbox.

Sega Dreamcast was a phenominal machine. Even better than PS2 to some degree. But Sega shot themselves on the foot during the Genesis' last few days. You can't really blame Sony. The PS2 was already destined to be success, after riding off the success of PS1. Fans simply wanted games. And clearly PS1 proved itself in games.

Sega CD, 32x, Menacer light gun.....all were technically flops, and this reflected upon Sega's reputation and gave 3rd party devs a second thought about investing on Sega Saturn....and eventually the Sega Dreamcast.

RIP DC. But its time to move on.

Anyway, I agree with the money part, but Sega didn't have the money, and Sony used theirs to make sure they came out on top.

I am sure EA's dissing of Sega was sponsored by Sony's wallet, then all the bullcrap about "Ps2 is TEN times as powerful as the Dreamcast" (which we all know by now was BS). Then by buying exclusives and timed exclusives, they effectively killed of Sega. Not to mention leveraging their position as a DVD manufacturer to increase sales. They tried that again this time for Blu-Ray, but of course it didn't work this time.

In fact, they tried almost the exact same tactics against MS as they did with Sega, but MS was ready for them. It is like watching a good chess game, and MS is owning them; financing their own exclusive and timed exclusive deals, and tackling the Ps3's advantages head on. MS does deserve some credit for how they've played the game thus far.

I was thinking the same thing bill gatesshould buy the dreamcast name from sega and make it a handheld Dreamcast Xbox. Dreamcast X sounds cool. Also why don't Microsoft buy the Dreamcast name and put the games on the Xbox360 as downloads or something make a Dreamcast blade in the Xbox360......think how many Xbox360s they would sell if they did that. Why they dont is beyond me it would win the war for sure and give them a huge leap in Japan as well.

I LOVED the Dreamcast. My brother got it a few days after its release, and I played the hell out of it for 3 or so years, ignoring the ps2 I got in 2001/2002ish. I actually hated playstation for killing my favorite system, but I was a lot younger back then so a little fanboyism was to be expected lol. I eventually ended up loving my ps2 too, so it's all good. But I loved the Dreamcast, and I wish it hadn't died. What a quality system.tskeeve

Power Stone's, Shenmue, Daytona USA, Sega Rally 2, Virtua Fighter, Virtual On:Oratorio Tangram, Virtua Tennis, Crazy Taxi, Sonic Adventure, Jet Set Radio, Sega GT, Ferrari 355 Challenge, Canon Spike, Soul Calibur, Dead Or Alive 2, NBA 2K, NFL 2K, and many many more!!!!!! Just simply the most amazing system of last gen.

I would take the Dreamcast lineup over any other from last gen.

I did always hate the Sony smoke and mirrors game. In fact, one of the main reasons I bought into the PS2 at all was because Sega announced that thier 2K franchise was heading over. Not to mention, that it was the only place I could get my Virtua Fighting #4!

I was one of my happiest gaming moments when Microsoft entered the ring, because I knew Sony would never be able to pull that crap again!:)
