I'm a little tired of hearing this dumb excuse to rip on either game. If that's the case, Let's throw in Wii's Mad World and Sadness just for kicks! Enough with all the browning and graying. A game should NOT be reviewed based on colors, let alone one that hasn't been released yet! So, let it die already!

If every game looks the same things get boring. I think the grey adds to the artistic appeal of the games. And other games need color for the artistic style. People are going to nitpick either way. If it not about the grey , it'll be too much color need sunglasses or something like that. no one is ever fully happy.

Yes it should, as an over-reliance on one part of the light spectrum can hinder the artistic view. Plus it'd be less appealing to look at. Oh, and keep in mind that games are also compared to other games (IE how they set themselves apart) and rated as such. Why can't there be an FPS that's colorful?

Kind of ironic that a lot of FPS's try to imitate the ever-so-colorful yet arguably most popular FPS by getting rid of any color whatsoever.

The arguement is that there isn't enough contrasting colour's. You don't need bright rainbow colour's to be colourful. If you have seen Gear's of war 2 you can see how much better it look's with the contrasting colour they have added. The game is no where close to being bright, but it the contrast add's a lot to the atmosphere.

Now a game like Killzone 2 doesn't need to change it's colour palete to look good, but you shouldn't be close minded to adding contrasting colours to the mix.

I can't stand people who complain about a games color. The developers chose those colors for a reason. Things that are colorful tend to be indicative of being light hearted or happy. Of course this isn't always the case. Killzone 2 and GEars 2 aren't trying to create a "feel good" atmosphere, they are trying to convey a world that is depressing, bleak, and lifeless. What colors do you think symbolize those feelings? For me it's very dark and and plain colors such as brown, grey, or black.

Criticizing a game for it's color palate isn't right IMO. Developers know other colors exist, but they aren't a part of their visions for what they want their game to look like.

There is nothing wrong with questioning the colour palette, but when you try to make it out as a negative is when it becomes ridiculous.

Or augment it.

Not every game is going for a colorful approach, and to judge every game as though it should is absurd. Take GeoW for example. The art direction in Geow was that of "destroyed beauty". The developers set out to portray a formerly beautiful city-scape that had been crushed by war against a relentless enemy. The dark, miserable color-scheme used by Epic helped to further portray this reality. Had Geow been filled with pretty flowers and green meadows, the art direction would have been severely hindered.

Art $tyles should be judged not by the variety of colors used, but rather, by how well it helps to portray emotions to the player. In this regard, both GeoW and Killzone 2 pass with flying colors. (I thought that was a funny pun ;))

Try Halo 3 if you want colorful

I just found some pics from an old thread....just wanted to show off Halo 3 (I'm a pretty big Halo fan).
