I bought giftcard at Gamestop and a couple of weeks later, I decided to return it (along with my original receipt) to get my cash back, and I was told that they couldn't give me a refund. I'm like, but it's a gift card that was never used. How can I not get my money back? I was told the "system wasn't taking it" and that was it.

I've always hated Gamestop and the only reason I bought a giftcard from there was because it was a present to someone who lives in an area where their only video game outlet is this wrestched chain (and the reason I was returning it was because they wanted money instead).

I don't know any other stores that won't give you your money back off a giftcard you purchased and are returning within the accepted time limit.

Beyond that, I've never cared for their policies, customer service and overall attitude. It's a shame that they control the direct video game selling market. So many people get scammed by them it's not even funny.

If you bought it with a credit card you can dispute the charge through them Gamestop may be a billion dollar company but your CC issuer probably makes that in a week.

Other than that if you call the corp office and be polite and keep getting bumped up the ladder eventually you hit a guy that makes what the value of the gift card is every few minutes in salary and they will approve a return because their time is worth more than the time it takes to argue with you about it.

Well business is getting rougher for them as well, also you generally wouldn't get a refund for a gift card anyway since the value depreciates rapidly. Gamestop is still the best place to buy games.

1) Their employees know nothing about gaming, hundreds of more qualified people practically beg for jobs there.
2) Like morons, they actually ran out of GTA4...Couldn't even cover their pre-orders. That's a massive fail.
3) I placed an online order with them, it was cancelled for no reason at all, they didn't even let me know. I was ordering a Bday gift, so I was pretty pissed.

Gamestop doesn't get my business anymore. I'd rather wait for Amazon if my Best Buy doesn't have something. I'm not giving those idiots anymore of my money. Very poorly run. I recently found a Gamecrazy around where I work and they have their crap together, much better than GameStop does.

One time I bought a game with a gift card, and then took the game back, and got cash instead of a pre-loaded gift card back.

Try that!

I guess I'm just lucky that I have mom and pop type independents that have survived all the lawsuits Gamestop has tried to shut them down with over the last few years still in my area. Independent retailers FTW!

The funny thing is that I'm expecting a total nerd from on this forum to work there, and usually they are total morons. Plus, if you actually get a fanboy, I notice they are usually Nintendo fanboys and try to tell me how great the Wii is because it sells so well. This is what I experience a lot at my Gamestop anyways. I hate encountering fanboys in person. Because I actually know the plusses and minuses of each platform and most fanboys are really one sided and blind.

By the way, the last time I go to Gamestop will be on June 12th... where I have 64 bucks on a giftcard (appropriate for this thread, lol) and will buy MGS4. After that, I probably wont be back, lol.

I think that most places will not take back their gift cards.

Also you can't beat the deals on used games. Unless you want something older than last gen.

I used to work at Best Buy, so I just go there now. Best Buy at least has what you want pretty much guaranteed, unless you want a Wii, which isn't Best Buy's fault, it's Nintendo's. They do game sales much better than Gamestop.

This is better suited for your blog, not SW.
