Kojima-san is not satisfied:evil: ...tsk tsk sony-ms and nintendo...get to work and make an uber console to satisfy his need!!

in a recent inteview with CLICK on BBC he is asked about future of gaming and his next projects..

Video Interview

""The next level will be when we start improving the backgrounds, the things you don't instantly see but enhance the experience. For example, there are leaves in the background and when you water them they grow. Instead of the backgrounds being pre-programmed, they actually respond to what the player does.

"This is not possible right now but maybe in the future it will be, and that is when we will have entered the next era of gaming," he added."

Kojima really should try to make a PC game. I know his fanbase probably isn't there but PC but us PC gamers are always eager to see how far we can push our rigs.

When someone says that it just means they're not good enough really.

Of course it's possible, you just have to do it better.

(for the record this is damage control for his **** backgrounds lol. In reality, realtime backgrounds will never occur because they don't give enough benefits for the resources)

Now Cliffy B, the Kojima of MS, would say "AWW yeah man! In the next gen, we're gonna have new weapons and have a million enemies on screen and better textures and it will be awesome! Yeah!"

That's what I like about Kojima, he wants to constantly push forward technically and try to bring new things to the table.

I want him to do stuff on PC, since much more is possible on there then consoles.

I agree with him and beleive him...

Thats is why deep inside us we feel like we are playing one of the same , with just advanced graphics this gen with very few exceptions.... And he got right.

It's not possible as of now. Rendering that much stuff while being great graphically would mean something like 15 FPS. >_>

For someone who keeps on stating that his vision is restricted by technology it is perplexing why he does not work on the one platform that is years ahead in terms of technology.

I dunno, some of what he's talking about isn't even that difficult today...Take the example of watering plants: It's not like they grow noticably in real-time, so all that would be necessary would be a system like the one Fable 2 (where is saosin?!?) will hopefully implement--Things you do at a certain point in a game will affect the environment later on. And yes, of course we need more powerful tech to make better, more realistic and immersive backgrounds, but when has this not been true? There are a lot of things that can be done with current gen hardware, it's just that developers are either too lazy to do them, don't see the benefits outweighing the performance impact (as someone already mentioned), or most likely for the majority of games, there just isn't a reason to put things like that in. Either way, we're still getting treated to some pretty impressive stuff so far this gen, so hopefully there's a lot more out there.

I would love to see what Kojima could do on pc as he made one of the greatest console games of all time on the ps3 that pales next to even last years pc hardware. I am sure he could blow crysis away if he made a exclusive pc game that pushed the edge of what's possible. He's right back grounds are the next level and I would love to see ai pushed as well.

It sounds like what he's describing is that whole "4D" gaming that Sony was claiming the cell could handle. But honestly I don't think we'll see this sort of thing until graphics actually reach their peak, leaving plenty of processing power and memory for other things. (that's not going to happen this generation, and it probably won't happen in the next one either)

To be honest Kojima sounds like the master of pointless things after that statement. Why would I want to water leaves and have them grow in real time. I wouldn't notice them growing, I'd just come back to that level in a few days and they'd have gotten slightly bigger. He makes no sense sometimes...

Games always have been and always will be an escape from reality. Pointless little things like the sky being different every time. Things in games should be things I notice,I don't want to have to have them listed for me to even notice them. It's like in GTA a magazine had a list of all these details like you can see in your wing mirrors, smoke comes from your exhaust, things like that. Did it make the game feel any more realistic? No. Did I even notice most of those things? No. Some devs need to take a step back from hyper-realism. I don't want a game that's realistic in every possible way because I already have one it's called life...

that's not what kojima's point was-you may not notice them as a "single" object or "effect" but when they are added to the whole picture it gives you a much richer experience.. ..

and again his point wasnt just watering plant and growing them but used that as a metaphor ..

Doesn't Kojima mean physics? You shoot a tree in Crysis, the tree can go down and leaves fall off - it responds to what the player does.

No, Kojima's point is interactivity. A completely dynamic environment. Nothing that's pre-programmed, only a completely programmatically-generated world.THAT is what he was talking about. Think of Spore, but many, many times more complex and realistic.

No, I'm not. I want to water plants and watch the leaves grow right before my eyes. Because ya know, that's sooo realistic. I go outside and the leaves grow the second the water hits the plant.

Pre-defined break points. What Kojima wants is an almost molecular-level of physics interaction.

I'm looking at the whole thing and it's silly. Sure, it'll make things more realistic, but I'm not so sure I want gaming to be more of a chore, where I have to maintain things, much like real life. I have enough stuff to deal with in the real world, I like to use games as a way to chill and unwind, not to be given chores. Go water the plants, mow the lawn, cook dinner. Now, now, now!

It's part of an experience. Sure you may not realize these things but if it was a game like Uncharted you sure as hell would. For example in MGS4 you may not realize the background sound effects/visual effects but it all adds up in the end to make a powerful atmosphere.

Crysis barely touches on what can really be done. What is done is crysis is quite simplistic to what we will see in 5-10 year's as hardware is able to run very complex real time physic's without melting the computer.

Oh, I realize every little detail. While more people bashed GTA IV because it didn't offer enough crazy acitivites, I praised it for getting the atmoshere and living city right. Also, the use of the Euphoria engine, which made Niko feel like he had weight and was a real human.

Wow. I expected more from you, but maybe I just mistook you for someone else.

Increased interactivity has nothing to do with escapism (or lack of it) either. It just means more choices.

And here they come.

Are you serious? How can you deny what he said? Kojima complains about technology, the PC is the answer. There's no discussion here.

[QUOTE="mjarantilla"]Still not seeing the forest for the trees.

Kojima only wants interactivity. He never said it had to be a core part of the gameplay.

We can all go outside and interact with nature. The reason I play games is to escape reality and escape any stress I may have. It's to adventure.

You do realise the more realistic the world's are in a sense the more absorbing they will become right? In that game world you would stil be able to do what you want and when you want unlike in the real world.

Kojima needs to be introduced to Crysis and Far Cry 2.

Why? They are just barely touching the surface of what is to come. The Physic's in Crysis are vastly overrated. Sure a lot of thing's can be knocked over, but none of what is nocked over is done in a realistic fashion.
