Kojima needs to be introduced to Crysis and Far Cry 2.
Why? They are just barely touching the surface of what is to come. The Physic's in Crysis are vastly overrated. Sure a lot of thing's can be knocked over, but none of what is nocked over is done in a realistic fashion.
Perhaps. But it still looks spectacular.
To be honest this is what Peter has been wanting since Fable 1. He even tried it out with player's planting Acorn's and having tree's grow over the course of the game. The tree's broke the game though by blocking path's or something and had to be removed. In Fable 2 though he made sure to get 1 acorn into the game and it's actually part of mission suposidly and you can watch it grow over time. justforlotr2004
Molyneux's too focused on the individual gimmicks to try to advance the big picture.
Isn't 4D possible on both PS3 and 360
J_Swayze
Only if the developer is willing to dumb down other processing and memory intensive tasks. (eg. character physics, graphics, AI, etc)

I wouldn't really call them gimmick's; more of the start of a new era of gaming. Everything is a gimmick till people adopt it. I can see so much potential in thing's like planting tree's. You plant a tree, the tree grow's. You can then use either the food off the tree to make potion's or whatever. You could also possibly chop it down and use it to help build a house, make a weapon, shield, ect.
I mean as game's advance so will the thinking of how thing's can be done. The idea of planting a tree then later once it's grown you can use it by turning it into something or using the food off it. It turn's what was once just a backdrop for game's into a very important part of the game. Just to imagine this is quite exciting and I hope in 20-30 years we will be able to realise this type of thing's to a certain degree.
Now Cliffy B, the Kojima of MS, would say "AWW yeah man! In the next gen, we're gonna have new weapons and have a million enemies on screen and better textures and it will be awesome! Yeah!"InfinityTomorro
That sounds way cooler than having "plants grow when you water them."
Kojima-san is not satisfied:evil: ...tsk tsk sony-ms and nintendo...get to work and make an uber console to satisfy his need!!
in a recent inteview with CLICK on BBC he is asked about future of gaming and his next projects..
Video Interview
""The next level will be when we start improving the backgrounds, the things you don't instantly see but enhance the experience. For example, there are leaves in the background and when you water them they grow. Instead of the backgrounds being pre-programmed, they actually respond to what the player does.
"This is not possible right now but maybe in the future it will be, and that is when we will have entered the next era of gaming," he added."Angakua
Kojima will make an exclusive Wii game in 2012 because 2010 is year of the revolution !
[QUOTE="lettuceman44"]It is called the PC.IgGy621985
A furious power of Cell is here to tell you're wrong.
The PC has the Cell also in some PC's.
So we're going to water plants and watch leaves grow in future games? Sounds like a complete blast. BioShockOwnz:shock: Next-era Viva Pinata! Sounds like it would be nice detail in games with large persistant worlds.

Perhaps, but those Cells aren't used for gaming. What I've seen so far, its gaming purpose is kinda... yeah.

I'm sorry, but the way I see it the cell has been nothing but hype thus far. I've seen nothing to indicate its real-world superiority over a regular multi-core processor.
See if any can beat me to it when it no doubt happens.
Frank & Luke @ Bungie OWN Kojima.........................................
Announce & do a Show & tell on their next game and crowd faints.
Next gen gaming...............
Continues !!!
PS: Yes, Yeah - 10/10.
[QUOTE="Vyse_The_Daring"]I didn't know the next generation was going to improve upon this one until Kojima told me. Angakua
Heretic!! your sarcasm towards Kojima-san is not appreciated!!
^ What he said. All my respects to Mr.Kojima for what he's given us for the past 20 years and specially the last thing right after the release of MGS4, The DATABASE which is FREE downloadable Metal Gear encyclopedia that covers the whole storyline ever since it started in 1987 till 2008. Encyclopedia, detailed timeline and characters relationships. It's an every MGS fan dream. I always wanted Kojima to wrap it up and summarize the whole thing in details as found in the DATABASE which is by far my favorite download from the PS Store. Thank you Mr.Kojima. Thank You Mr.Kojima
When someone says that it just means they're not good enough really.
Of course it's possible, you just have to do it better.
(for the record this is damage control for his **** backgrounds lol. In reality, realtime backgrounds will never occur because they don't give enough benefits for the resources)
Gamerman12362
Kojima is one of the best out there even by principle. He sets his targets high (not fable high) but you can see he thinks outside the box.
I too agree with him, but then I don't think next gen will be as yieldly; the biggest jump was made 10 years ago, and since then games have lost their "dream" factor.
It is capable on todays machines, but if people would just stop and concentrate on how interesting a game is, and how long it is before how impressive the HDR is, we could see some real heavy hitters.
A classic example is Fallout 3. Although the game has improved graphically, it has been stunted, warped and essentially crippled in terms of scope. The game actually has less scope than fallout 1 and 2 even though it is on superior hardware now. The only reasons for this is developers have their heads in the wrong place - mostly.
Now Cliffy B, the Kojima of MS, would say "AWW yeah man! In the next gen, we're gonna have new weapons and have a million enemies on screen and better textures and it will be awesome! Yeah!"InfinityTomorro
So, how should a sequel be made. BTW, Gears 2 will feature more than new weapons.
Even the raw power of a PC can't fufill Kojima's expectations here. Crysis and Far Cry 2 barely scratch the surface compared to what he's talking about.mo0ksi
No one will mention either of these games in 10 years time like they did with MGS1 and FFVII. I'm sorry but the games you mentioned won't add a thing to gaming history. MGS and FF did.

I was thinking more along the lines of an advanced weather system.

All of the things mentioned in the sequel will be mere features.
"there are leaves in the background and when you water them they grow."
what that makes no sense.
In other news Kojima is dissapointed in the PS3.

You can draw attention to the PS3 if you want, but I don't think he is disapointed - that would be the glass half empty.

What the hell does this have to do with that I posted? I'm just saying that FC2 and Crysis aren't technologically advanced enough to fufill Kojima's expectations of a next-level of gaming. No game has reached that level. Nothing more.Maybe for YOU MGS1 and FF7 added something to gaming history. But for me they're just great games that didn't do anything spectacular, but fun while they last.
And don't even think about talking about MGS' stealth utilization because Thief: The Dark Project did a better job and it came out the same year.

Thief stealth is a bit iffy imo.

This won't end well for ya.:P
*frowns* Pretty much like one of the many natural progressions in the video games industry... you know, what many games have been doing since forever: A further step towards realism, in other words: A virtual world that mimicries life.
Yes, the possibilities for this industry concerning this subject is unlike any other. So yes Kojima, like many others before you; you should and or could try something in this area to a larger degree, instead of solely offering a cinematic gameplay experience.
to anyone who say he should starts developing games on pc even tho pc are extremely powerful nowaday, but it still haven't reach the level kojima intended. Kojima could develop games on pc but first you have to consider
1. is today PC powerful enough to cramp all those detail, physics, advance graphical feature, full world interaction?
2. whats the percentage of pc owner that have high end pc compare to medium range to low end. even if you sacrifice some of the feature in his game. the user weren't have full experience ,example ( Crysis) and majority of pc owner doesn't own those kind of high end rig.
3. profit also play a big role, look at crysis for example, Crytek dissapointed with crysis sell number. even tho crysis pour in a full power hunger game.
4. with console there is what you called standardize , everyone console owner have the same spec so developer weren't worry how this system perform compares to other.

Is that what Kojima is stating?
bano123
No, he kinda wants Time to work correctly. You probably seen those trailers where you see a tree grow or something metal become rusty and dirty in real time.
That is what he wants.
if he is so hungry for power, than stop developing games for the ps3 and move onto pc.....Dante2710
Kojima is Sony's biatch, so it aint gonna happen.

that would be 4D i belive, unscripted real time changes within a game depending on the actions of a player. time and ageing also in a game.
so yes it is not possible at the moment
