the real question: Can the Xbox 360's RROD phenomenon be defended? seriously.

Who on planet Earth would buy a umm..., a home computer, knowing that it could over heat and fail on you at a rate of 33%!!! And at that point, you would have to re-package it and send it back to the manufacturer, and wait a couple of weeks untill you get it back????

Would you? Seriously.

How in the world, can you defend such a thing?! That's what I want to know.

Rabid Lemmings have alot of nerve, and some explaining to do.

I know the games are pretty good, and even the online is pretty good, but damn, come on, how can you so galiantly defend a company/console that delivers that type of shoddy hardware? That to me is down-right shameful.

However, I will be getting a Xbox 360 very soon, I'm waiting around to see what this new "falcon chip" is going to do first. Right now I've been playing my brother's Xbox 360 while he's over seas. (military)

P.S.

I don't even have a PS3.

In conclusion: both companies, Sony/Microsoft should be ashamed of themselves for putting out a console that was way too expensive, and a console that is 33% unreliable.

WTH.

Well alot of people kept buying the PS1 after it continually had lenses fallout, and PS2 after all the disc read errors.

Wasn't there a class action lawsuit over the PS2's DRE? Looks like you've got some explaining to do.

I sold my 360 after having it for 1 month.I bought it the day of the price drop.I might get another one if they fix the problem. I sold my xbox because everytime I turner it on I was worried it would die. Took the fun out of owning one for me. I don't care about the 3 year warrenty too much of a headache for me. Unless microsoft fixes the problems I'm getting a different system.

MS is dealing with it and have been since the summer. The newer consoles have the extra heatsync in them already. Now some of the new systems are coming with the falcon chips that will make the system run even cooler, plus newer, quieter DVD drives and they are keeping the extra heatsync in the console as well. Oh and then there is the 3 year warranty. It isn't like MS is doing nothing and those are the facts.

Yes. The defenses are:

1. The problem isn't as wide spread as the internet would have you believe. (I seriously doubt that almost 4 million 360's have failed)

2. All consumer electronics have some level of defect, and videogames have been especially vulnerable. Atari 5200 controller issues, NES needing to blow on cartridges, PS2 DRE's, and now Xbox's overheating. MS is the only one to admit the problem and extend the warranty, though.

Darn, I had a third one but I forgot what it was. Oh well, you get the point.

They need a lifetime warranty not a 3 year. My xbox dumped on me after a little over 3 years.

Well when my PS2 had read issues i would take a DVD lens cleaner I bought for a few bucks and clean the lens. I could then play the thing. With the RRoD, you're ******. Nothing to do but pack it up, send it off, wait, wait more, and get back a refurbished, different unit that is almost guaranteed to break on you later.

Not a great comparison, homey.

I don't know either ??

I can only assume people think it won't happen to them mine broke twice already I would have given up on it but i got live free for 12months and 2 games plus a diamond card. I was still upset but so far it has not broken again knock on wood. If it does RROD again I don't care what they give me I will take legal action.

First of all, your "33% unreliable" is complete crap, it's not that bad.

But beyond that, why would anyone want to defend the issue? It's a crappy situation. MS did the only thing they could, they extended the warranty to 3 years to take care of it. Yeah, it stinks to send your console in & be without it for 2-4 weeks, but it's better than being stuck with a $400 paperweight.

And the new systems that are being shipped out have been redesigned to alleviate the issue altogether. So again, there's nothing to defend, everyone knows it sucks & MS did the right thing,& you should get your "facts" straight next time.

Unless you're talking about the widely used "33% failure rate" number that I used.

Don't just say it then. Prove it. I copied my SN from the back of my console down that is how I know I got the one I sent in back. Same with SOME of the people I know that has had this happen to them. That is how it is done. If you were getting an RROD, they replaced the chip that failed and then added the extra heatsync. That is probably why my system has run better since February than it ever did before because it runs cooler. They didn't change the whole system and not fix a thing. That would be stupid.

The thread title made me l:lol:l in rl. Reminds me of Casey's recent topic.

Well luckily I haven't experienced the rrod (yet). AndI have 2 xbox 360's at home for more then a 15 months now. So I assume that gives me 66% of 1 360 dying on me. I hope it never happens :P

So 5 people is much evidence? That is basically from my friends list by the way. The majority of them have never had a thing go wrong with their console and a lot of them got it at launch.

Any way, I wasn't disagreeing with your thread. In fact I believe my first post was about how MS is doing something about the issues.
