1. Sony hype LBP to hell and back but never advertised it to the general public that dosn't follow gaming news.

2. We're in a recession and the minimum price for their system is twice as much as their competitors. (Yes, you can get a 360 hdd for $20, so the $199 compression counts)

3.Microsoft has the hardcore in their pocket.

4.Nintendo has the casual and Microsoft is after that to.

5. Their new commercials are pretty to look at but sell nothing but Batman on blu-ray. They don't explain to the average consumer what games they have or what games they're seeing in the commercials ,again.

6.There Blu-ray players that are $150 now so the Ps3 is not the cheapest blu-ray player on the maket.

7. HDTV sales are down so blu-ray player sales are down, too.

The Sony fail train continuous, unfortunately.

Sony won't fail this Holiday Season but they will most certainly be a distant third to the wii and 360... Sony priced themselves out of this race along time ago and refuse to make the necessary adjustments to catch up or even surpas the competition. The 360 will most likely sell between 700 - 900 k in November followed by alittle over 1 mil in December. The PS3 will probably sell 600-800k for both Nov/Dec.. I may be wrong but in the US I really can't see people spending 400+ on a VG system.

Sony has a 6 figure marketing campaign lined up for LittleBigPlanet for Dec.

If we have learned anything from this recession it's that it doesn't seem to affect video game sells.

If anything Sony has the hardcore in their pockets. Not many casuals are willing to pay $400 for a gaming console and Sony has sold over 15 million of them. Sony will pull in casuals soon enough.

There will be lots of HDTV sold this coming Friday as well as Blu Ray players. PS3s will sell aswells you can get a gaming console and the best Blu Ray player on the market all in one.

THats very true. It could be because other forms of entertainment are more expensive now and days. Such as going to the movies and trips and such.

I would have posted a long time ago on this thread ,

but for some reason it automatically censored a word in my reply.

And the only word which it could have been was "dispute"

which i deleted and it still rejected the post :(

There's a chance the 360 will beat it worldwide over the holiday season. But it won't stay at $400 forever.

I disagree about the VG sales... We've never experienced a Holiday Season like this one with our economy in turmoil.  I myself plan on scaling back my shopping in order to save alittle more.   You can't predict something like this because we've yet to experience it.

Sony AND M$ have the hardcore in there pockets... Why the bloody hell do you think their sales are so close together...  The only reason M$ has a lead is because of the 1 year headstart.  Now that the price of the 360 is cheaper you'll see the 360 pull ahead.. that is until Sony drops the price of the PS3 and then we're right back where we started from.

Again.. you're making a very bold assumption in wallet tightening times...  you can't possibly know that HDTV's will fly off of store shelves... 2 years ago.. Hell yea!  Today... who knows..

Sony has a 6 figure marketing campaign lined up for LittleBigPlanet for Dec. Link?

If we have learned anything from this recession it's that it doesn't seem to affect video game sells. Then why has the 360's price cut tripped up Sony so bad in North America?

If anything Sony has the hardcore in their pockets. Not many casuals are willing to pay $400 for a gaming console and Sony has sold over 15 million of them. Sony will pull in casuals soon enough. Please explain how Sony has the hardcore in their pocket. Also, explain how Sony will pull in the casuals. You don't seem to provide explainations, you just seem to have blind faith in Sony's ability to do well. Tell us why. Also, I fail to understand how casuals not being interested in a $400 dollar system helps Sony.jakarai

And to base my opinion on your opinion: The Scottish philosopher David Hume stated that there it is not secure wether the future is similar to the past or not. And he also said that the opposite of everything you can imagine might happen. You can't make true predictions for the future.

Actually, The recession is affecting gaming. With so many people losing jobs and the cost of living is going up I doubt a mass of people with spend $400 for a game system. Look at EA, and look at the amount of layoff going on in this industry. This also goes for HDTV'S. Yes, on black Friday the cost will go down but with the current economy not that many people will afford it. Next, I know their pushing an advertisement campaign in dec. But thats after the biggest day for sales, Black Friday. Also, You can't tell me that Sony has more PS3 owners than 360 owners and the systems are too much the same,a person would rather get games for cheap. It's just brand loyalty and niche games that Sony is getting sales games on now. It's not that the PS3 is a bad system. Just this recession is the worst time for it to be $400.

I am pretty sure they will sell well this Friday. Wal-Mart has a 42' HDTV for $600. Those will be gone before the store even opens up. Just look at last months NPD numbers. Nearly 2 million hardware units sold in Oct. November and December will be huge for gaming.

I agree with the OP about the new commercials, it's like Sony is only interested in still pushing Blu Ray as the most important part of the PS3? I don't get that.

It doesn't take rocket science to figure out that PS3 will do badly this season and is in serious trouble.

Before you troop on with your condescending attitude, you might want to learn what a fact actually is.

"We're in a recession and the minimum price for their system is twice as much as their competitors. (Yes, you can get a 360 hdd for $20, so the $199 compression counts)" Fact

"Microsoft has the hardcore in their pocket." This is not exactly a cold hard fact, but parts of it are true. Microsoft has certainly done a better job of getting hardcore gamers to invest in their system.

"Nintendo has the casual and Microsoft is after that to." Fact. There's absolutely no denying that Nintendo has a stronghold on the casual market.

"There Blu-ray players that are $150 now so the Ps3 is not the cheapest blu-ray player on the maket." Unless you can prove this wrong, this is a fact.

7. HDTV sales are down so blu-ray player sales are down, too. Unless this is proved wrong, it is a fact.

I'm not saying his argument is right, but he clearly employed facts (or atleast statements that can be proved wrong or right) more often than you are trying to convey.

LBP six figure advertising campaign to roll out in December

I will just wait until Novembers NPD numbers.

Like I said not many cacsuals are willing to pay $400 for a console. Sony has lots of casual games that sell millions of copies each time upon release like Singstar, Buzz, and Gran Turismo. When GT releases next year along side a price drop PS3 will sell tons and hit mainstream gamers across the globe.

PLEASE don't start with "teh Just Wait" stuff again.. I still have a headache from the last year or two of that nonsense... The Sony Playstation IS NOT going to sell to the casuals any more than the 360 will... The wii already has that market in a vice grip so forget about it... The PS3/360 will sell to gamers and media heads i.e movie watchers..

PS3s will sell aswells you can get a gaming console and the best Blu Ray player on the market all in one.

dreman999

It's hard to say with video gaming hardware up this compared to last year on all platforms...

PS3 has awesome games thats why people are buying it. I never officialy owned a Playstation last generation so I know It wasn't brand loyalty to make me purchase one this generation.

1. Got a link for that? 2. Not exactly a fact /=/ fact 3. Link? 4. Like someone said before, I am god, if you can prove me wrong, that is fact 5. Refer to 4 ;)

Hell yea!  Today... who knows..

I am pretty sure they will sell well this Friday. Wal-Mart has a 42' HDTV for $600. Those will be gone before the store even opens up. Just look at last months NPD numbers. Nearly 2 million hardware units sold in Oct. November and December will be huge for gaming.

Dude, that $600 is one hell of a deal for a 42' HDTV. BUT we are in a recession, which means most people cannot afford a $600 HDTV even though it was $1300 before. Yea it is one hell of a saving, But damn, times are hard.

That is not what I'm saying. I'm saying that his statements can be proven right or wrong thus they are not opinions. And opinion cannot be proved right or wrong. "I like GTAIV" is an opinion. What the TC provided could be false, but they are NOT opinions. You can prove them right or wrong. When I say "unless this is proved wrong" I mean that if his data cannot be challenged, it is a fact. If what he's saying is shown to be false, it is not a fact. I never said anything different from this. But it is quite incorrect to label all of his statements as statements of opinion.

But I'll concede that the "hardcore in their pocket" thing is not a fact.

This is a pretty lame form of damage control, but for those who don't know what an opinion is, this is clearly one.

The statement that "HDTV sales are down" is not a statement of opinion. It can clearly be measured.

I think what some of you are struggling with is the concept that a false statement doesn't automatically equate to an opinion.

I may have worded some of my statements clumsy, but what I meant is that if the TC statements are proven true, they are facts. If they are proven false, they are not facts, they are false statements. This does not turn them into an OPINION. An opinion cannot be MEASURED.

I didn't mean to say he's automatically right if he's not proven wrong. I just mean that if his statements check out, they are statements of fact.

Your charge that something is a coincindence unless proved otherwise is just as clumsy as some of the statements I made. Until he proves that the economic recession is tied to trends in the industry, it is simply an unknown, not a coincidence.

You're not exactly helping your argument. Although it seems like common sense, it is not a fact. It is an educated guess. I assumed that you wouldn't pass that off as fact, because its not. It's not a statement of fact until you can show an undeniable link.

The one and only reason: They mentioned a March price cut in late November
