360 and ps3 are tied.
This topic is locked from further discussion.
I doubt it....I dont know if the Wii will be around long enough to sell that many units.MikeE21286
Id like to remind you that ps1 was a generation behind n64 and it kiled it. its not impossible. its already nearing GC numbers in less than a year. just multiply 17 million by 5. also most sells will come when its under $100.000
[QUOTE="MikeE21286"]I doubt it....I dont know if the Wii will be around long enough to sell that many units.Erkidu:roll: And, why is that? To the topic: I can see the Wii selling 100 million+, but SSBB selling 17 million seems bold to me.

I know it's your opinion. Why is it your opinion?Because he feels that since its not a graphical powerhouse as the other two systems then its not meant to last. He believes that in a year or so(didn't people say this when the Wii launched?) that people will get tired of the wiimote and crave HD graphics, which Wii doesn't have.
I think he should observe the war between the DS and PSP.

Yea, that's why I asked. I figured that's what he would post - I just wanted to see it, so I could laugh.Under. There's no way the Wii is going to be this gens PS1/PS2.

The same thing was said about the DS. Its innovation(or according to fanboys "gimmick") vs overloaded graphics and multimedia features. The DS vs PSP is the answer for everyone who is skeptical about the Wii and its future since its essentially the exact same war except handheld.

Wii starts off at $249....360 $400 and the PS3 at $600. These prices are built for longer lifespans.
The prices of the consoles inevitably drop and by the time you get into like 2009 when you can get a ps3 for like 150-200 and a 360 for probably 150....what are they gonna sell a Wii for $50? I mean honestly.....the Wii will have a new console out before the ps3 and the 360 do which will eat into it's projected sales. That's my opinion.
Those predictions are off... yes, the Wii will win, in my opinion... but I think it will sell more like 70-75 million consoles. It's going to be really close this time around.
As for SSBB, 10 million seems likely... 17 million is not likely to happen.
TDLlama
I don't think this will be a close war at all. Maybe for the 360 vs PS3 eventually, but the Wii will continue to dominate over both.
What is this 'prediction market' that the guy references in the article?
This number sounds pretty friggin' random.

Simexchange. Basically a free stock trading game in which people buy and sell based off of their own personal opinions of what games will do. No consequences or reprocussions to their decisions and they buy and sell with fake "sim money" (or whatever their currency is called). That's my understanding of it. If I'm wrong I'd gladly be corrected.
LOL. The Wii is not like the PS2 or PS1.
The PS1 and PS2 were weaker than the N64/GC?XBOX, but they were powerful enough to keep up with them, and even put out games that looked better. Not to mention the PS2/PS1 had by far the best libraries.
Wii sales will slow. It's weakness internally will catch up with it, not to mention it's lineup isn't going to be strong like the PS3's next year even with a couple AAA titles(SSBB).
It will still outsell the XBOX 360, but when it's all said and done it will be behind the PS3.

How is the PS3 which stands at around 6mil consoles worldwide surpass a console that is at 14mil+. Is the Wii going to magically stop selling? People who hate the Wii has been saying its a fad since it came out and that in xxx amount of time people will realize this. But you have to take into consideration that this hasn't happen and that the Wii has been a freight train without its AAA games. People don't buy consoles for next years lineup they buy consoles for the game library it has. Even when PS3 gets next years titles its library will still pale in comparision to the Wii and 360.
And to note, PS1 and PS2 both didn't start with a good library of games. It was over time. Wii's first year looks about the same as PS2 and better than PS1.

The Wii will not look as attractive as it once was when there is a $200 priced 360 or ps3.MikeE21286The 360 can be purchased for $280 - but that dosen't seem to be mattering at the moment. You really think $80 will make that much of a difference? The price is not the reasoning behind the Wii's success - not matter how often you say it. The GC was consistently less expensive than the competition (by a considerate margin) - yet lost miserably.

Iwata: 4 Year Life-Cycle a Thing of the Past
Seriously people Nintendo itself said that the Wii will be supported past the traditional 4-6 years, the Wii will be supported as long as it has legs.
The Wii will not look as attractive as it once was when there is a $200 priced 360 or ps3. ....MikeE21286
During those days the Wii would probably drop to $100 or so. So it will still be the same thing. What you aren't understanding is that if people were interested in HD gaming they would of gotten the 360 or PS3 over the Wii. The same can be said for the DS vs PSP. With that being said, it seems like they aren't interested in graphical powerhouses so what makes you think they will suddenly change in a couple years?

Nobody buys the Core 360.......

Grasping at straws I see, the price won't stop the Wii freight train. But if you want to believe that everyone will crave HD graphics in two to three years and all of a suddenly desire 360 and PS3. Then thats entirely up to you. /Sigh

You have no proof that "noone" buys the 360 Arcade. Furthermore, when the GC launched, it was a full $100 cheaper than the competition (and remained that way for much of the generation). At the moment, the Wii is only $30 cheaper than the 360, and only $150 cheaper than the PS3. Because the 360 is aimed at one type of group. Consider if the Wii customers were interested in the 360, they would buy the core. Because according to you its because the price, I doubt they would care about the HDD seeing that the Wii doesn't have one. Now we know the core is a bad seller and its not because the price. Its because the 360 only aims at one type of group. You should see why the price is a non factor in this.

The Fact is, the Wii's 2nd year is going to be just like it's first. It's going to have 2 or 3 killer Apps from Nintendo(SSBB, Mario Kart Wii) and mostly crappy third party titles. 3rd Party support hasn't changed much. They've gotten more 3rd party support, but devs still just see it as a way to get make cheap medicore games and profit off that.
The PS1 and PS2 still had potential for later years. They had basically all the 3rd part support in their gens. The Wii is not going to have those things. It's too underpowered and that's why most devs are still putting their big games on the PS3.

The price gap is not large enough to be valid reasoning behind the Wii's success.Like I said, I stand on my opinion that the vast majority of 360 buyers see the Core as inferior and purchase a Premium model atleast. That would put the major difference at $100 (at the least ) and $150 (at the least even though the 40 GB PS3 just released). You're willing to tell me that the margin between the sales of Wii vs. those of 360s and PS3s would be just as large had all the consoles been priced close together (or even the same). Price is the largest factor when you consider what videogame system a person chooses (or any "luxury good item"....if you don't know that definition you can look that up). Any lower priced console automatically has an inherent advantage due to price. The fact that the Gamecube sales were so is a testament to how poor of a console it was commerically. The funny thing is that the Wii is selling basically the same software but selling boatloads of systems. I do not pretend to say that price is the only factor, but I will not say that it is not the largest factor either. People see the Wii as something new and want to try it out, I get that. Look, I've had this argument probably 100x on system wars and I grow tired of having it again...... I will save myself typing and end my participation in this thread on that note.

Sigh...the PS3 has no big titles. Only a few for 2008. And as for the Wii's 2008 lineup you or anyone else no little about it. From your perspective the Wii is to underpowered compared to the competition. But take a look at the the DS vs PSP war and tell me who is the winner. Clearly the PSP techically destroys the DS, but its not close to selling as well as the DS nor does it have the game library. Why is this?
If what you said makes you feel better about purchasing the PS3 then all the better for you. /Sigh
