This week, the Nintendo Switch hit a significant milestone: it’s now sold over 20 million units since launch (something we already touched upon yesterday, when Famitsu shared an early report about it). It’s now joined the very select club of consoles that have sold over 20 million units in Japan:
- Nintendo DS: 32 990 000 units
- GameBoy (including GameBoy Color): 32 470 000 units
- Nintendo 3DS: 25 150 000 units
- PlayStation 2: 21 980 000 units
In a couple of months, the Nintendo Switch will outsell the PlayStation 2, and by the end of the year, it will be pretty close to outselling the Nintendo 3DS. Outselling the behemoths that are the GameBoy and the Nintendo DS is going to be tough, but it’s definitely possible if the new Nintendo Switch model proves a big hit and revitalizes sales.
