Absolutely well deserved. Either this or Bloodborne could have won and I'd be totally happy. Although I have to give an honourable mention to Until Dawn. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I loved that game.

Really? Did anyone thought otherwise? Witcher 3 should be winning GotY anywhere. It's a masterpiece in recent games.

Well, I haven't played 1 (at least not enough to have any kind of an opinion on it) and I could never get into 2 much, but I still gave 3 a chance and it's one of my favourite games ever. There's a lot of people who never played 1 or 2 (or didn't like 1 or 2) who absolutely adored 3. You should play it, you'll love it.

People poking fun at the fact that PC's GOTY is a multiplat. I choose to look at it as PC having the best individual GOTY and thus the best year in general. Also look at the runners up. Great year for PC as always.

Good job on the thread all those that participated in constructing and all those that voted; way more satisfying awards event than the official GS awards which have been poo butt bad in recent years, they've definitely been better in previous years with great categories to recognize achievements in many of the technical aspects of game making to give others a chance to get recognized in these events without being the most popular games but games people still recognize for their accomplishments. I mean, we didn't go there either but we're a forum group not a gaming website with industry professionals.

I don't understand why The Witcher 3 gets so much love. All of that detective mode shit is poor game design imo. I HATE how games require hand holding. I played on PC and while I think the game looked good, I think it's wildly overrated.

PS4 and Wii U with the only exclusive goty minus the handhelds.

Steins;Gate is a game I really want to play. I was hoping it would go on sale this winter, but that has sadly not happened yet.

If you're a fan of Ronpa I think you'll enjoy S;G for sure. Time travel and case/effect are the main themes.

Witcher 1 is a fantastic game. It's a lot better RPG than Witcher 2. Don't let some random youtube videos fool you. It's a lot more fun to play than it looks. Sure graphics aren't best in the world, but are you going to skip it because of graphics? I'd say pick it up.

Only one I was surprised about was Rise of Tomb Raider but then again I heard good thing about the game so I suppose it get Xbox game of the year. Congrats to the Witcher 3 though. Even it's greatest haters couldn't keep that game down. Somewhere Dijkstra just gave a silent head nod.

How early the voting started somewhat soured me on this whole SW game of the year thing, so I didn't vote. I know we were getting down to the very end of the year, but I still had some games to play through. I mean, I just went on break like 2 weeks ago. I didn't have a chance to touch Siege or Xenoblade till recently. Wouldn't wanna vote without being completely sure of my choices.

Maybe next year.

Both Witcher 1 and 2 are fantastic games and both are better RPGs than Witcher 3. Especially the story and the whole aspect of hard and meaningful narrative choices and consequences is seriously fucked up in Witcher 3, with all the former grey-area-morality ("the lesser evil") laying in pieces. Both Witcher 1 and 2 also offer more depth, complexity and atmospheric density than Witcher 3. If somebody is really interested in playing an actual story-driven RPG they should play Witcher 1 and 2 while Witcher 3 is mostly for those Skyrim-like running simulator fans.

But actually all three Witcher games suffer from CDPR's misinterpretation of the novels which resulting in them turning the fairytale into a myth (without having the proper narrative tools and skill to deliver on that)...
