I dont think women want to be made ugly as hell looking in a game....why do they wear make up then? ok then..
People are aware that kitchen and sandwich jokes have never been funny, right?PannicAtack
they are :(
Both men and women in all forms of visual art are generally portrayed as ideals. Who wants to look at ugly people constantly? No one! Humans like looking at pretty humans.
I dislike that women so often get skimpy, ineffective, armor/cloths, but no more than I dislike that men so often have physically impossible musculature.
How old are you? 10?LASer354We're all a bunch of 12 years old girls here who meet once a week to watch Twilight. Wanna join?
Third option in the poll is correct. It doesnt even need to be a female protagonist to make people angry; all you need to do is change the voice actor for a major character or make a new main playable character in a game.
Meh, I see nothing wrong with either of those covers. First one isn't over sexualized at all and looks pretty generic compared to all the other actiony game covers recently. The second one barely has any cleavage, shes wearing a (small) jacket as well. Women clothing are just made that way really.
What pose would you prefer they use that shows off the protagonist that you wouldn't consider to be degrading women?
Anita Sarkeesian bashes games for not having strong heroic female protagonists, yet in her masters thesis she bashes games for just that, saying that in such cases it just makes female protagonists just take on masculine traits rather than feminine ones... yes, damned if you do, damned if you don't.lamprey263
Here is an alternative viewpoint on the subject.

is it sexist if i say id like to slap her in the face? shes the embodiment of everything thats wrong with feminists.
[QUOTE="Vaasman"]Well what about bad driving, cleaning, and talking too much jokes. Are those still funny? but those aren't jokes :( Indeed. My wife just made me a delicious sandwich today.[QUOTE="PannicAtack"]People are aware that kitchen and sandwich jokes have never been funny, right?BrunoBRS
I quite like a face full of ass/t!ts, thank you very much. Sex is one of the biggest things that drive our species. Get over it ya rightious douche.
I blame the Japanese - who whore out any women every chance they get.R3FURBISHED
God bless the japanese.
female protagonists are damned if you do, damned if you don't
lets use remember me as an example. either its a face-full of ass, or a face-full of t!ts. female protagonists can't just be presented as a person, they have to be sexualized to spark gamer interest. if she was all covered up and acted all tough, people would wonder if she was a lesbian (look at lightning). female characters in games are written into a corner.

That is one tone ass if I ever saw one
I would not say that it is tragic. I would agree that women are not going to charge into battlefield with nearly no armor. I tend to fall in between the arguments. I don't feel what Nillin is wearing is all that different from what most women wear in public now. At least she is mostly covered. Women have a natural beauty to their physique that men will never possess. Its ok to show that in less revealing ways. The same applies to men in this regard. To prove my point, it's no problem that a man in good shape in a game or in real life can go out in public without a shirt while a fatter man cannot without being laughed at. The same applies to women who are skinnier than other women. They can get away with more revealing clothes. Could they wear less revealing clothes, sure. However, society deems that it is acceptable as a whole. I feel that there will never be a happy medium because people will never be comfortable in their own skin because we are raised to think that our bodies are shameful. Just my opinion though.

I would agree that women are not going to charge into battlefield with nearly no armor.Phreek300That's the beauty of video games (or books, or music or whatever). It is fiction, and fantasy. It's designed to solicit a particular, chosen emotional response (running the gamut of everything from anger and hate to sexual arousal), and can be whatever the fvck it wants to be. Fantasy games that depict women in nearly no clothing are unrealistic... but most people don't play video games for their realism.
I would just like to take a moment to thank Team Ninja for all the gifts they have given to us and the gaming medium...

MMM, id say the way women are protrayed in video games is representative of how much thought is put into the game itself. If a developer is going for a realistic character that they want players to get attached to, they will make the female protagonist in their game more normal.
Alyx Vance and Ellie from TLOU (as far as i've seen) are good examples. Both of these games had alot of time and effort put into their characters to make them realistic and "attachable."
Then you look at a game like Tomb Raider which is more gameplay focused and less story driven, and the main character is overly sexualized with tiny shirts and constant grunts and moans and a flawless face among other things. You have to ask, what was the reason for designing the character the way they did? Did they make her physically perfect to enhancer her as a character, or to sell the game? I think the answer is obvious.
It's so unfair to women because men are protrayed on a very realistic manner in every single game ever made...right?

Lightning isn't a lesbian TC. Wtf. That was Vanille and Fang. Capitan_Kid
could you picture her with a guy? I can't
lightning was basically written as a man but with a female skin overtop (because the incompetent guys at squenix don't know how to write proper female characters)
Yup. You can't change human nature. They make male protagonists look really fit and good as well, us males just don't care. A fit and good looking woman has ass and has a nice rack. It's just the way of things. I honestly don't care, I'm playing through Remember Me right now.

Ugh....black_chamber99 thread. I hate to break it to you, but women have **** and ass which is unavoidable to show. What do you want? Then to put them in turtle necks and parkas? Get over it and find something else to whine about.
