Well Im really enjoying Reach so far, I haven't played BFBC2 yet but I think Ill pick it up soon because it does look like a really good game (although I don't really like rpg elements in my shooter multiplayer).
Singleplayer = Half Life 2
Multiplayer = Battlefield 2
Best modern shooter (past 3-4 years)... Crysis or S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

This guy pretty much has it right. Except I'd say Crysis or Stalker was a better single player game due to a higher degree of replayability. And Bad Company 2 seems to have more tactical gameplay with the destructible environments compared to BF2. However, BF2 was still amazing.
Halo by far, as far as Scores go they have been the most consistent with 5 AAA+ games. I doubt you could question that record. walkingdreamIn a world where casual gamers give out perfect 10's like no tomorrow, I don't think scores are a good indication of overall quality.

I am merely pointing out the fact of scores and critical acclaim. I mean what other FPS game series come close to that kind of record? Scores do give a good indication of quality actually. My favourite FPS this gen however is probably Crysis or BCBF2
Halo. Yes there have been single iterations of other games there were better in some way or more popular.....but on the whole the halo series by far. I still play the original game online every day and have created many of the halo 1 maps to the T in reach. which happens to be the best part about reach.

^ guh......no skill, no fun. flat out of there isnt a tremendous skill gap to seperate the pros from the nobodies.....it isn't an FPS worth playing.

RPG elements? No, it's a tactical/squad-based shooter and it's amazing. One of the best FPS in my opinion.Well Im really enjoying Reach so far, I haven't played BFBC2 yet but I think Ill pick it up soon because it does look like a really good game (although I don't really like rpg elements in my shooter multiplayer).

A lot of other games do not have tons of Xbox magazines and sites giving out straight 10s automatically.
1). Halo Reach
2). Halo CE
3). Call of Duty 4
4). Bioshock
5). Goldeneye 64
Those are some of my favourites, but I only recently got into playing fps games.
Multiplayer: BF 2142 (Still retain a 4 to 1 k/d ratio with the Krylov)
In terms of a popularity run, I'd have to say Counter Strike 1.6 or Source.
Singleplayer? My favorite is a tie between Doom II, and Black
Probably the most popular though is Halo.
Halo, BioShock (original), I've never played System Shock, Portal, Crysis, or Half-Life because I don't have a gaming PC though.
Surprised that no one mentioned Duke Nukem 3d. Truly legendary. my top fps are Duke Nukem, Halo CE/2, Perfect Dark( BEST GAME EVAR), and Goldeneye ( I'm mostly a console fps player).
