wrong 360 just passed 30 million ps3 is coming in on 30 million
the only one passed 40 is nintendo at 68 million plus
and the reasons for ps3 not selling is
1 the 360 came early , almost if not all games on ps3 are also avaialble for a cheaper platform-360 and are in most cases better versions of the game
2 the price at launch obviously
3 ps3 had little to no games to play for about 1 and a half years ,
and still lacking in that department in comparision to nintendo wii -dont bring up the reviews cause thats not what im basing it off of , i m basing it off of actual quality of the games , and the fact nintendo offers top notch exclusives backed with unsurpassed third party support , ,
makes their line up diverse whilst ps3 is flooded with alot of fpses

Wrong, the Xbox360 has reached about 40 million. Bayonetta, TF2, and Fallout 3 are 3 games I can think at the top of my head that are better on the 360. Doesn't matter if the PS3 came out later, that's Sony's problem. Their console was double tne price compared to the regular Xbox360, so you have to take that into account as well.
"NEWS FLASH" The PS3 has outsold the 360 every week since Sept 2009 and it's going to continue!!!

Newsflash, no it hasn't.
[QUOTE="Zaibach"]The truth is that PS3 is dominating on a global basis, does that sound right?Misleading thread........there s no truth here folks just some guy's observation of NA market

No, the only place the PS3 is dominating is in Japan. It's not dominating globally.
Even though you're completely right TC and have given no opinions, the fanboys here and across the world just don't want to hear it. To those of us that live in reality, we know that the real winners this gen are Nintendo and Microsoft. They have actually done better this time around unlike Sony in the sales department. Now to which console you prefer is a totally different matter, but of course fanboys let that part blind them.

Thank you. I agree with you as well. I'm not stating opnions, I'm stating sales numbers and things that contain common sense. To increase your sales from last gen is an accomplishment. To go from first place to dead last is not. You shouldn't have to cut the price of you're console in half just for it to sell. Sony has been by far the least successful this gen, and time is running out for them. To dominate the market completely to then being in dead last is not an accomplishment IN ANY SHAPE OR FORM.

all three consoles put together can't touch ps2 sales
what is your point?
yodaddyninja
My point is that Sony fanboys are trying to brag and make damage control threads and these people have no justification to try to brag about anything. I've also seen several threads saying that the PS3 is outselling the Xbox360 worldwide, which is not true.
Those threads aren't about overall sales. They're talking about monthly in the most recent months. Then why exactly is the gap closing between the 2 consoles? Your telling me the PS3 is selling less globally and yet the gap is closing?[QUOTE="FIipMode"][QUOTE="yodaddyninja"]

How can you be in last place and be dominating..? The peak in sales that Sony had is already slowing down.
Yeah I'm sure he was talking in recent months, not overall.Reasons:
- PS3 was late (the Xbox 360 was released a year earlier and already had an established userbase by the time the PS3 came out)
- Third party exclusives no longer exclusive (notably Grand Theft Auto - no timed exclusivity, Devil May Cry 4, Assassins Creed, Final Fantasy XIII, Tekken 6, etc. etc.)
- $599 price
- Hard to develop for, thus games were not meeting the hype early on and games took forever to come out (PS3 has a billion games that were delayed)
many more reasons but those are the main reasons
You're comparing this gen, which we are only a third or so into, to last gen, which is over. Also, the Xbox was not a part of the "console race" throughout last gen, which is why it couldn't possibly make a dent in the market.
Additionally, and I don't have these numbers, compare how the ps3 or xbox is selling to how many they sold at the same time in their last gen's time frame, then you can have a clearer picture of how their install base is relative to last gen.
That's still only part of the picture, as profits are not generated simply by having more out there, software also has to sell more. So compare profits of both companies game divisions to profits posted in the same time frame from last gen to see whether they have improved or worsened. You can find these reports pretty easy, as they are publicly traded companies.
The only true fact about sales so far this gen is that the ps3 is selling at a faster rate than the 360, while the Wii pissed on both of them. Still, I'm curious as to how much software the Wii manages to move, as I'm sure it's inattentive, casual audience, has tired of being burned by crappy titles by now. Either they have started researching or have stopped buying anything that doesn't have "Mario" in the title.
With all these futile and annoying fanboy damage control threads, it's time to explain why the PS3 is failing in sales.
Now, the PS1 and PS2 are probally some the greatest consoles of all time. They are highly regarded by millions. The PS2 has reached about 150 million sales worldwide. The original Xbox sold what, less than 30 million in sales worldwide?
The PS2 completely dominated, and reaching 150 million in sales is outstanding. The XBOX reached less than 30 million.
The XBOX360 has reached around 40 million in sales. An increase in sales. That's an accomplishment.
Now to the PS3. The PS3 has reached around 35 million in sales worldwide. Now this is where the fail comes in. Explain to me, how can a console(PS2) sell 150 million, and then in the next gen, The PS3 only reaches 35 million. That is an incredible drop in sales. The freaking PS2 reaches 150 million sales, and The PS3 reaches a mere 35 million??!
The PS3 is the predecessor of a console that had 150 million in sales, gets dominated for four years in the current gen, and is just now starting to catch up?? And people are bragging about this? Why are these 150 million PS2 owners not buying the PS3? People. This is not an accomplishment.. By the look of the previous sales, the PS3 should have been doing good in the start, andit'sjust starting to catch up after being dominated for over four years. The PS3 should have been dominating from the start, but it has been in dead last for four years, and finally after getting a severe price-cut it's now only starting to catch up? That's a joke.
The XBOX360 reaches a gain in sales from last gen, while Playstation goes from 150 million to 35 million. I like all consoles, but to see these PS3 fanboys brag about numbers by trying to use Vcharts is just sad. Don't pay any attention to that nonsense. Being the predecessor of a console that sold 150 million to being dead last to finally catching up after four years IS NOT AN ACCOMPLISHMENT IN ANY WAY WHATSOEVER. Sony is most likely embarrassed by these numbers, and yet people are trying to brag about them. Sorry for the long post, but I'm just trying to show why these damage control threads will not work.
yodaddyninja
you do know that it took the PS3 10 years to reach its 150 mil?? and while were almost half way there with the PS3, take into consideration that the xbox this time hasnt abandoned its console and sony still has competition in sales. last gen who would buy a console with no support (xbox) thats why the PS3 dominated last gen. its only eal comp was the Cube and while that console was great, it and the PS2 were in two totally different leagues
Reasons:

The PS2 reached the 100 million mark 5-6 years after it's release date. It's been over 3 years, and the PS3 isn't even close to half of that.

The PS2 reached the 100 million mark 5-6 years after it's release date. It's been over 3 years, and the PS3 isn't even close to half of that.
PS1 took about 10 years though, so we will see.Momentum, how the customers react to it. Apparently they/we were disgusted at price at start and the small library it launched with. The brand of PS is weakening and had shifted to Nintendo with Wii and DS. Cheaper console, cheaper games, and the controller really caught the eye of customers and appealed to the more casual crowd besides the die-hard nintendo peeps. Its not always what they offer, but like I just said how the customers react and does it catch on.
We now know for sure the gaming market is very price sensitive due to the fact that a huge chunk of the market are kids or young people who are not willing to spend too much on a hobbie. This had happen over and over again in the past and we all know it. The only thing Sony can do know is sell the Blu Ray player and do better next time.
PS1 took about 10 years though, so we will see.FIipModeThe PS3 has actually sold more than the PS1 in the same timeframe.
At this point in the last gen, the respective install bases for the PS2, XBOX and GC were about 80 million, 19 million and 18 million. No console holds a candle to the PS2. Although one should qualify that by noting that the PS2 had a competition-free year to make a big dent.
Additionally I don't see why one can't consider the 360 a "failure" it's Microsoft's second entry into the console market. It's analogous to the PS2, yet it's certainly no PS2, with the exception of similarly having hardware issues. The 360 likewise had a competition free year, but failed to become a runaway success, instead being outsold by both he Wii and the PS3 when timeframe is taken into account. I can consider anything a failure, it doesn't make it a fact.*
And repeating "it's a fact" "it's a fact" doesn't make something a fact. One console generation doesn't predicate market share in the next. If it did the Playstation and XBOX lines wouldn't exist, Sega would still be making hardware, and Nintendo would have won the last two gens as well.
A console generation is self-contained.
*And for the record I don't consider any of the consoles this gen failures. None of them have Dreamcasted out of the market.
I came in this thread expecting some 'truth' and all I got was more opinion and speculation.....

Hopefully they learned that you can't sell a console with no good games for $600 and expect people to buy it because your previous console was successful.
TC is comparing the sales performance of a 3 year old console to one thats 10 years old, and drawing conclusions from this that the PS3 failed. I was expecting actual intelligence in this supposed "explanation". God, was I wrong.beekayjay
The PS3 reached 100 million in 5-6 years. It's been over 3 and the PS3 isn't even close to half of that. The PS3 did fail this gen. The Xbox360 and Wii increased insales compared to last gen. To be in first and then to be in dead last is failure. PS3 sells well for a few months, and fanboys feel the need to make countless threads tobrag about it. Being dominated for 3-4 years, and then to start finally catching up is not something to brag about. In the same time range, PS3 will not sell nearly as well as the PS2, while the Xbox360 and Wii are already doing better than their previous gen consoles. All I'm saying is that Sony fanboys are in no position to even try to brag about anything.
ah sales. im just happy i got mine before they all sold out,
and for some odd reason i smell a new playststion 3 slim with a bigger HDD coming

They're getting some very good games. That is the only thing that gamers should be bragging about.

The biggest hit for Sony, has been to its Playstation brand power. I personally never expected it would go from what it was to what it is. I never imagined the PS brand in one gen would be level with anyone let alone the Xbox brand, so people at least need to give MS credit for that. That is an achievement in itself.
But to be honest only fanboys will cry about it, this is fantastic for gamers, look how far MS and Sony have pushed each other this gen. Online standard for both, tons of great games. And no laziness or arrogance from either now, because they can't afford it, this is what I wanted. No one company should have total power.
When one company has total power they adopt a my way or the highway attitude, not good at all.
This gen, for the first time in a long time, gamers benefit the most.
There are some flaws in your argument TC. Firstly, the PS3 isn't the predecessor of the PS2 its the successor. Secondly the PS2 didn't sell 150+ million within 3.5 years, which is roughly how long the PS3 has been out globally. Thirdly, the PS3 was launched at an outrageous price (double the cost of the PS2) and the economic climate only made it worse. There are lots of factors to take into account, to simply say 'PS3 hasn't sold 150 million so its a failure' is totally nonsensical.
If Sony launched it at a decent price it would be easily be at 45-50 million sales, which in 3-4 years is an enormous accomplishment. I remember when when the PS3 launched in the UK it cost £425, thats $650! Who is going to spend that much money on a video games console when the predecessor cost less than half of that at launch.
