even if we choose to ignore the PS3's ability to play BluRay Movies or what ever.....the benefits of BluRay games should still count...
so you get games with uncompressed sound....games that hold more content, like how Dead Space 2 will release with the game AND HD Dead Space Extraction all on one disc and still cost $59.99....compared to the 360 version which will cost the same but will only come with Dead Space 2.
BluRay discs games are more sturdier, but again still cost the same as the 360's DVD ones...which can scratch sometimes.
then there is Free Online play with the PS3.....
no need to buy a charger for the wireless controllers or additional batteries compared to the 360.....
I think system reliability should also be taken into account into value....apparently Sony spent more money to make sure the system was sturdy...but still sell the system around same price as the 360...
also I think the investment that each Company puts into their own developers should also go into added Value......Sony has their own Baseball game, which just so happens to be one of the best sports games around.....and they have other titles that push the envelope compared to 360 titles that run on multiplat engines (Gears) or some based on last gen engines which also are not even HD (Halo)....
one clear advantage the new 360 has over the PS3 is Wireless N....if your network can take advantage of that....but this is just an added luxury just like uncompressed sound or true 720p 3D games from the PS3...
but don't get me wrong.... I think when the $199.99 360slim arcade releases that will be a pretty good deal actually, a better deal than spending $250 for a Wii.
I would never buy a new console or accesories from the shop. They are way too expensive. In Great Britain (where I live) there are loads of second-hand dealers that sell consoles in mint condition, of course there is also ebay where you get a load of good games bundled aswell. I got my PS3 with two controllers 3 games (Killzone 2, LBP, Uncharted) and a remote for £250. As many brits will know we get a bad deal over here and the financial scaling isn't exact, so lets just say that one dollar equals point six of a pound. But a new console over here will cost more than 60% of what you guys pay. And if the dollar price falls or the pound rises it still stays the same (which I admit is probably sensible). So what you really need to look at is the average prices of consoles, games and accesories for both consoles then add the new prices to them then average them again. Complicated and long-winded I know but far more accurate and reliable.
The bottom line for me is that eventually the PS3 will out-do the xbox in the long-run and this price comparison won't be necessary :-P As we are seeing in the hardware and PS3 exclusives.
read my post above, in the UK there is still a huge gap in price between the 360 and the Ps3,everywhere else they are the sam e price i think,MS must have really wanted the UK market, the 360 was the second cheapes console ever released (gamecube was the cheapest) , and at 280 quid for the premium, it was only 30 more at release than a Ps3 costs nowI would never buy a new console or accesories from the shop. Yeah, I know in Britain Micro really seemed to push out the band wagon didn't they. But wasn't really my point. I meant that people should take more accurate and reliable averages and readings to mkae it fair, I wasn't (unusually for me) commenting on either console (except for the end).
360 has a wireless network now, and if by 'true' HD you mean Native 1080p, then the 360 has true HD as well, and the 360 can do stereoscopic 3D as well, they are not exactly bonuses in the Ps3's favour, but i get you point about averafing a consoles price as there is a big disparity between different store whn it cones to harware prices, especially preowned hardware.PS3 also has Wireless Network. And I think True HD and 3D aren't "minor bonuses".

Yeah to add to my point I imagine that the Xbox will be cheaper preowned percentage-wise than the PS3 would (in other words PS3s will retain their values better). Mainly due to the hardware failures Xboxs are imfamous, maybe because of the many different types of Xbox and how much better they are from one another but possibly because of the sheer amount of them in Britain. (i'm not sure about the US of A and Canada though)
