The Wii is not a next-gen.

The Wii is not a next-gen because it's too similar to the Gamecube and XBOX in terms of performance than the XBOX 360 and PS3, which are the real next-gen consoles. The Wii is all hype anyways, just for the remote control and all. Look at the games how horrible they look to X360 and PS3 games! And the latter 2 support HD, c'mon, you can't even compare. When you play a shooter on the Xbox360 or the PS3, do you point your controller at the target you want to shoot, or do you use a stick to move a targetting reticule at your target?

They are still next-gens since most players are still playing on the older ones. To be considered a current gen, you have to be developing it's successor in serious development.

and yet at this moment in time, the 360 has some great FPS, the PS3 has a couple of half decent ports, and the Wii FPS either just straight up suck (Red Steel, Medal of honor) or they're vastly inferior to other versions (Call of duty).

Do people know how foolish they appear when they say that the Wii isn't part of the current generation? Well, anyways, isn't it just as easy saying that the 360 and PS3 are not part of the current generation because their controllers are what? 10 years old? I would surely imagine that control methods that have been used for the passed 10 years or so are a lot worse of an issue than graphics and power that are only from the last generation.
