With the Xbox 360 1 year ahead of the competition, the Wii is close on its heals and preparing to surpass it in sales. Very impressive, but is that the only strength the Wii has? Is the Wii truely the worst console on the market because it relies on casual and non gamers to generate its sales? Does the Wii have nothing but sales to rely on? Are sheep dumb for blindly following Nintendo into its new generation stratagy?

With both the 360 and PS3 powerhouses, and Nintendo opting out of that race, the Wii seems quite dumb and pointless. Why would I want to spend money on something that will become obsolete in 3 years? The fact is, no one expected the Wii to do well, even nintendo had its doubts. E3 came around and proved everyone wrong, that in the convention full of GAMERS, everyone seemed to be interested in the Wii and most everyone walked away happy. Once developers saw this, they relized that this was going to be a hit. Nintendo was idiotic and did not get dev kits out fast enough, so developers only had 6-8 months to make the launch... incoming ports!

From bad to Terrible, they came. Developers trying to make money off of the Wii's impending success made some of the worst games we have seen this generation. But is this all the Wii had to offer? HA! hahahahahaha, no. Nintendo is singlehandedly making sure that the Wii has one hell of a Year!

Super Mario Galaxy

Fire Emblem: Godess of Dawn (Working Title)

Disaster: Day of Crysis

Kirby (Working Title)

Pokemon Battle Revolution

Metroid Prime 3

Big Brain Acadamy Wii

Super Paper Mario

Project H.A.M.M.E.R.

Wario Ware: Smooth Moves

DK Bongo Blast (Working Title)

Battalion Wars 2

Super Mario Strikers

Super Smash Brothers: Brawl

Forever Blue

1st Party alone and Nintendo has raked in the casual, non, and hardcore gamers! In one year Nintendo will open up its big name franchises and shove out more AA-AAA content then any other developer can dream of doing. Infact, Nintendo has such a huge and varied line-up this year, that the 3rd party barely makes a scratch of difference. But what Nintendo doesn't have, 3rd party will make up for. Mature Titles...

Resident Evil 4

No More Heroes

Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles

Manhunt 2

Manhunt 2

Sadness

Though there are not many games coming out for then next few months, Nintendo and its fans shall have one of the best winters imaginable! So, now that we know that the Wii is covered for 2007, whats next?

This is where sales come in... though many of you think that sales are bad and that Nintendo is only trying to make a quick buck, more sales means more than just money... sortof. With more people having a Wii, developers find it impossible to pass up. The same thing happened with the PS2, casuals were into it, and thus it got TONS of great games. You think only hardcore gamers bought MGS, DMC, FF, GT, GTA, GOW and more? god no.

The reason sheep are so excited over the Wii's success is because sales drive developer activty which means more and better games...

Though the Wii is rather pathetic as of now, this time next year the Wii will have a solid line up of games and some amazing 3rd party support... sales are great for a reason, remember that.

I actually agree with that statement. 3rd parties that did not board the bandwagon back at E3 2006 are doing it now (EA, Take-Two), so we can expect some surpises come 2008.

Looks like a good year for my Wii. Super Paper Mario is actually a lot better than I expected it to be.

I need to get a PS3 soon, as well.

Some of those titles look awesome. SMG and SSBB are still the best Wii games coming imo.

I don't really care about ports so RE4/Godfather etc don't interest me. I hope devs don't follow Ubisoft and just port everything for quick cash. Capcom with RE4 is slightly worrying but at least they're giving RE:UC.

You forgot NiGHTS! How could you possibly forget NiGHTS?

Plus, if the rumors are true, as of tomorrow you'll be able to add either Samba de Amigo or Space Channel 5 to that list.

Sadness is no longer in development. :l But despite that, the Wii would be selling more if Nintendo could meet the demand. That's why they're looking for a new manufacturer so that they can get one to everybody who wants one.

I agree with most of that except for M rated titles, which I think are unimportant to the success of Nintendo. At least I know I bought (and always buy) a Nintendo console for the Nintendo titles. If a good looking M rated game comes out, I buy it. But for the most part, I think I'll stick to my 360 for M rated games. That's the beauty of owning two systems

But M rated games are only good if it's a good game. The rating of the game does not determine the quality as a lot of people seem to think.

And yes, I have not been impressed with the Wii so far. The only game I like, Super Paper Mario, barely even uses the motion sensing. I gotta hand it to Nintendo for getting everyone so hyped for it though.  I know by the end of next year, things will be different.

Super Mario Galaxy will change everything

Wii has actually had a pretty decent first few months I think.... lots of channel upgrades, a new Zelda game, SSX Blur, a Sonic that actually doesn't suck that much, and of course Super Paper Mario (which is awesome!).

Also, don't forget to mention that the new Zelda will be coming eventually.  That's worth noting... plus one of the big three are bound to get delayed, most likely Metroid Prime 3 or Super Smash Bros. Brawl.  Third parties are most likely going to be announcing some great titles for Wii sometime soon as well, just as you mentioned.  Considering Take-Two of all companies is new creating some new titles for Wii, that says a lot.

I'm sorry, but Nintendo has successfully lowered your standards and expectations if you consider ancient, shallow, and cliche franchises to be the flagships of innovation, fun, and "next-gen" content.

The Wii has one thing over the other consoles -- a form of input that some users enjoy and perfer.  Unfortunately, input can now be standardized as a USB device (and should have been standardized as USB devices by all consoles of this generation) and this small advancement should not be raised as an incentive to purchase an antiquated peice of hardware.

The hardware itself is a pile of garbage, a rip off for consumers, and a disgrace to this industry.  Nintendo's marketing strategy butchers gaming quality, limits the functionality of gaming, and exists soley to make profit by catering to the lowest possible denominator of consumer demand.

Nintendo does not care about gaining third party support or making games for you.  They are exploiting your love for marketing icons and nostalgic formats while they push their product onto a broader market.  Once they aquire that market, they'll throw you an old bone once in the while, but your purpose and function is complete.

Enjoy playing the reptitive junk your demand has created.  I just hope it stays confined within this sick and sad console.  Let us hope this marketing strategy does not spread outside Nintendo or breach the mainstream market.

lol, thanks... I try not to sound really biased either, I grew up on Nintendo and I love their games, but I also know that the PS2 kicked major arse last gen (almost too many good games) and the 360 is my favorite next gen console so far...

Basic economic theory and the buisness models of about any successful company functioning in the modern capitalist system.

Not enough?  Pay me 30 dollars a hour, and I'll sit here and emperically crunch numbers until I can shove it in the Nintendo fan's face.  The observations within the arguement are so obvious, and so clearly infront of you, that you're either in a state of disillusionment (which most Nintendo fans are) or your standards have simply been lowered to render you oblivious to what is actually occuring.

Thats reasonable... its hard to like a Nintendo's console if you dont like Nintendo games... but I left out a good amount of 3rd party support as others have mentioned...

FoamingPanda

have anything to back up those large statements? Didn't think so...

You talk so much for someone without anything to say.

 This joke of a poster again?  I hope your seriously being paid to do this.

I know.  It must be terribly painful to see a panda rip into an object you desire, eviserate its shallow and hollow corpse, and hold the cold guts of truth up before your very eyes to see.

As I've said, I don't expect most Nintendo fans to accept my arguements (if they can even understand them without terrible misinterpretations), no matter how valid or objective they appear. Fanboyism and gaming is like a rampant disease which leave the party in question unable to unbiasly or critically consider objects anymore.

Wow? A communist model?  That would be worse than what Nintendo is attempting to do the market right now.

I don't care about your silly Lenin banner. What you advocate - a single console or, at the very least, a single console design a la 3DO - is precisely the result of a Communist model applied to the context of the video game industry. These competing consoles that you hate so much are what drive competition. Why don't we destroy everything Adam Smith taught us in the first place, eh?

EDIT: By the way, I find it interesting that you're shedding tears about 3rd party support when you believe exclusives hurt the industry.

lol, ok... let me now prove that everything you said was an empty statement.

"The Wii has one thing over the other consoles -- a form of input that some users enjoy and perfer. Unfortunately, input can now be standardized as a USB device (and should have been standardized as USB devices by all consoles of this generation) and this small advancement should not be raised as an incentive to purchase an antiquated peice of hardware."

Standards change, and as you have clearly said... some perfer this input meaning that to some... it is superior thus people buy it. To say that this does not justify a purchase is beyond me if one perfers it and thus you contradicted yourself.

The hardware itself is a pile of garbage, a rip off for consumers, and a disgrace to this industry. Nintendso's marketing strategy butchers gaming quality, limits the functionality of gaming, and exists soley to make profit by catering to the lowest possible denominator of consumer demand.

You showed nothing here other then that you really dont like Nintendo as this is clearly an empty statement that can not be taken as fact or even reasonable opinion.

Nintendo does not care about gaining third party support or making games for you. They are exploiting your love for marketing icons and nostalgic formats while they push their product onto a broader market. Once they aquire that market, they'll throw you an old bone once in the while, but your purpose and function is complete.

If nintendo did not care, they would not be in the business. If they did not care, they would have not spent 4 years on one  game (Zelda TP) and let it go early knowing it would sell like crazy. Why didMario, Zelda, and Metroid BECOME icons? Maybe its because they have great games? Why is Final Fantays on its 13th installment? Because people like Final Fantasy. When most developers use a franchise and ruin it (sonic), Nintendo has continually evolved to fit a new market. Nintendo also has new franchises, ones that will appeal to a different audience... Disaster Day of Crisis, Project HAMMER, and more... Once again... an empty statement.

Let me also say to you that I own a PS2, Xbox, GameCube, Wii and 360 and my standars have not changed since as I currently play more of my Wii then I do my 360.
