The wii still doesn't have the games. And if you want to bring out the just wait statement, ok I'll wait and see if it actually happens. Right now it hasn't though.

In sales yes. In an overall library, hell no. The Wii has a solid lineup, with one of the best games of the generation, but the PS2 still far outshines it.

The Wii's graphics and gameplay limits are the same as the PS2's. Yeah, it'll beat the PS2 for sales. But in no way can it beat the PS3. Most (90%) of Wii games don't work well, the controls suck, etc. Now, some games (that 10%) have great controls that work with the Wii. But the PS2 had an excuse for weak graphics. The Wii is too far behind in graphics and gaming limits.

There's a difference: The PS2 was filled with gems whereas the Wii isn't, it has a small selection of great titles.

Also I highly doubt the Wii will last as long as the PS2, Nintendo don't make their hardware last as long as Sony does.

But I guess business-wise, the Wii is a much bigger success.

No way is the Wii better than or equal to PS2. Most of the games on Wii are terrible.

Theres going to be many people who will deny this but thats okay. Its the truth. Ever since the Wiis release in 2006, it has been selling like hot cakes. It's only a matter of time b/f 3rd parties realize the potential of the Wii and ditch the HD twins altogether. I firmly believe that E3 this year will make people wonder why they didnt get one in the first place. Soon enough the Wii will have a library that will even make the PS2 green with envy.

"Just wait" seems to be the hope that the Sheep cling to. We've been told for over two years now that as soon as the developers see the sales, the killer third party apps would come. LordXelNaga

I belive the Xbox360 = The new PS2 in north america and the PS3 = the New PS2 in japan.

I see your argument but this is different from last gen. The wii has isolated it self, the PS2 did not. The wii is aimed at a casual market. The PS2 wasn't for a long time (a # of years). I see your point, both are mass selling consoles, but there is a difference.

the Wii took the PS2 logic, and simply took it further

the PS2 tried to appeal to both the "traditional" gaming crowd and the "younger" adults (20-40 years old), but it still resembled in its concept to more traditional consoles

the Wii tries to stretch the target demographic to a significantly "gamerless" demographic (40+) and so is totally different in concept. and as as a result its games are different from what the PS2 offered.

That pretty much sums it up.

The PS2 was superb in all genres and had lots of mature-rated titles as well as family-friendly games. The Wii on the other hand is 99% kid-oriented. There is nothing wrong with being family friendly, but if you are ONLY family friendly, thats a differnet story. You need to have variety, something the Wii does not have.

I love the Wii and all but no, I don't think it's as good as the PS2 games-wise. Hell, I don't think ANY of the consoles this gen are as good as the PS2 games-wise.

One Little Problem:

I can sort of see it.

I mean the Wii has an excellent selection of backwards compatible GC games just like the PS2 had the PS1 games.

I agree, though, that to live up to the PS2's legacy, Nintendo has to branch out its game selection.

Considering how far we are into this gen. Wii is not the PS2 of this gen. It has the sales, it does not have the games. The library, whilst having quite a few gems, does not equal the PS2's in any shape or form.

I think the 360 is this gen's new 'PS2'.
