This is all very simple. Right now the Wii U is struggling to play games made for the 7 year old 360. I'll give Ninty the benefit of the doubt and say that devs will get their crap together in 2-3 years. The problem is that by then the 720 (ps4 will die fast with new DRM restric) will be out and third party devs will abandon the Wii U like they did the Wii. The graphical leap between the two will be equal to the Wii and 360. They might get some watered down ports for a year or two. After that it'll be dejavu.

Whats funny is that there aren't even many third partys supporting the console to begin with.

The Wii will be out for a year then...I think Nintendo will be fine either way, even if they don't win this gen. Looking forward to see what gimmicks Sony and MS bring to the table to try and compete with the Wii's sales.

Edit: When has Nintendo gotten a lot of 3rd party titles to begin with.

Nope, there's not and what is available now is pretty much garbage.

It depends entirely on Sony and Microsoft. high Pricing of consoles and the used game ban will make things interesting and help the wii-u if those things come to fruition; however, as of right now Nintendo is lacking in 3rd party support once again. There is nothing on the console that people wouldn't have on their already established HD console; more so they probably had a year+ ago. Not only that but it looks like it will be missing some key titles that are being released in 2012 on other platforms. There's no Bioshock infinite, GTAV, Tomb Raider, DMC, South Park, etc. for the Wii-U as of now.

Yeah instead they'd do... nothing. Provide bad expensive PC alternatives and try to halt or prevent releases for competing platforms, to introduce less control over your purchases and insert ads. That's what I'd expect.

You can't copy much from the Wii:U besides the tablet. Hardware wise, the Wii:U is on the same level as PS3 and 360 and thats old now.
If kids and soccer moms start buying cartoony or family games from other Next Gen consoles a heck of a lot more.. then I think Nintendo will fall but step back up in a good way, fingers crossed.

Dont be suprised if you see PS3 and 360 controllers with screens on.. but that ain't new either.

Be quiet! Nintendough is so innovative! Do teh Dreamcast got touch screen!! Oooooh so be quiet because Wii U screen has touch screen.

Masterful innovation again from Nintendo.

Also 360 is 7 years old and Nintendo is just now catching it... Pathetic on all counts.

How can third parties leave when Nintendo threw them a cheque? As long as they are stealing games under Sony and Microsoft's feet third party support isn't going anywhere.

Do you have proof of that or are you just being an idiot? The console's power hasn't been fully realized yet.And I would expect WiiU games to beat 360/PS3 games in graphics in the next year or so.And people can enjoy any game they want without being bashed by idiots.

Its broken. Everything it shows the exact opposite happens. Fact is since 720 and PS4 coming out and destroying Wii U is the widely accepted "fact" the exact opposite will happen.

Proof you say?

PSP will crush DS.

PS3 will destroy everything.

Wii will fail because its a gimmick.

Natal will be better then Wii because it will have "hardcore" games.

Kinect will fail.

Vita will make 3DS irrelevant.

I-Phones are kicking 3DS into the ground. Nintendo is doomed again.

Wii U is the fourth time Nintendo is doomed.

Newest theory= 720 and PS4 will come out and third parties will forget Wii U.

Most likely actual outcome = third party support for Wii U will be tremendous as something people haven't thought of is likely to go wrong with the others.

Nintendo has a history of reselling and repackaging old ideas, a massive following of merely the brand Nintendo, forcing gimmicks, censorship (although they are stepping back on that), etc.

Nope, Sony and Microsoft only are following the trend that Nintendo created with their brand. The fact that Wii U sold as much as it did demonstrates the power of the Nintendo brand.

The Wii sold in the numbers it did because it broke through into non-traditional markets. The trouble is that the non-gamers only played the included party games or at best bought a couple of games and then forgot about it. Third party developers abandoned it because their games just didn't sell on the console. The Wii U has shown no signs of recapturing that market so far, and third party developers seemingly have little incentive to risk getting burned again. The bulk of the actual gamers that bought the Wii did so for the traditional first party Nintendo games but Nintendo can't rely on that market to continue supporting them indefinitely. The games that these Nintendo fans grew up on were cutting edge, innovative games when they were released, they can only go on rehashing those past glories for so long. Kids nowadays are growing up with Halo and CoD, the fanatical man-children that have no interest in games outside the Nintendo family will inevitably dwindle over time if Nintendo can't capture the new generation of gamers.

Yes..........yes it does. I dont like the way gaming is going with Nintendo at the forefront.

I hate Kinect and absolutely loathe Move. They are nothing, but bad gimmicks along with the Wii. If Nintendo could only allow me to play all of their Wii and Wii U games with a a Gamecube controller...........Crappy graphics on consoles dont bother me since all consoles have crappy graphics. I have my PC if i want graphics and gameplay.

the PS2 era gave us great games with no gimmicks, and online gaming.

Nintendo gaves us garbage motion controls that only exist to serve casuals.

Keep in mind that my version of "fail" does not mean bankrupt. It means, i dont want Nintendo as the leader with the Wii U.

And you never will.

Nintendo built a system that only promotes 1st party Nintendo software. Third party devs were ignored again.

One word comes to mind: Delusional. You fanboys really have issues. Never have I ever wanted a Console to fail. A real gamer goes where the games are. Do you really think Nintendo isn't going to come out with all their big name exclusives? They're already learning from alot of their third party mistakes from last generation as well. I mean, really, grow up. I'm not saying it'll be first or anything for the next generation...I don't know what'll happen there, but to wish a Console to fail? You are no gamer.

It's roughly 2x more powerful than the PS3/360. Again, the PS3/360 are already hugely powerful. I was actually talking about third party support...not power. Nobody knows what the future holds or what they will do. People are simply making judgements on the supposed "future" after not even 2 months have gone by after the launch. It gets very old and childish. But, hey, carry on. Don't let me ruin the party in the playpen. No Console launch is ever spectacular; That is fact. Graphics and games with Consoles get better over time. This has always been. Anyone thinking otherwise is new to Consoles completely.

Nintendo will make killer apps, people will want to play them and buy the system. Maybe it won't "win" the next generation, or trump the Wii in sales but I highly doubt it will fail.

Actually if it was the same the console would not produce games equal to, slightly worse or better then some high end 360/PS3 games at launch(trine 2 DC vs Trine 2 XBL and PSN). If the console was equal to the 360/PS3 in power launch games would look way worse then they already do.The console is stronger then the 360 and PS3 and if devs can figure out how to use the console's strengths in terms of graphical capabilities we can expect games on the console to eventually beat the high end PS3 and 360 games in graphics.

So many threads suggesting that the WiiU will fail when the next consoles come out. So little evidence that it will actually happen.

The Wii didn't fail financially though it was vastly underpowered in comparison.

wii u has more RAM than ps360 and a stronger GPU but the CPU is believed to be slightly. Overall the Wii U is more powerful but given the amount technology has moved on in 7 years the difference is underwhelming. Imagine a console being launched in 1992 that was only a little more powerful than one launched in 1985? Imagine Xbox 360 being launched in 2005 that was only a little stronger than Dreamcast that was launched in 1998? This is the main criticism of the Wii U. Personally I will buy one when more games are released but the tech in it is underwhelming.

The Wii U could sell 20 million units and it would probably be profitable for Nintendo, they arent exactly putting as much money into this thing as Sony and Microsoft do.

I hate to break it to TC but the Wii U is failing now right out the gate day 1.

-Day 1 huge update

-game downloads attached to system and not id

-Having a tablet as a focus point

-barely better than PS3/360

-tiny useless hard drive

-tacky online setup for friends.

There's no such thing as a 720 just like there was never a 180.

It's not roughly 2x more powerful than the PS3 or 360. It's exactly the same. PS3 and 360 are not hugely powerful. They are awful in the year 2012.

CwlHeddwyn

Actually if it was the same the console would not produce games equal to, slightly worse or better then some high end 360/PS3 games at launch(trine 2 DC vs Trine 2 XBL and PSN). If the console was equal to the 360/PS3 in power launch games would look way worse then they already do.The console is stronger then the 360 and PS3 and if devs can figure out how to use the console's strengths in terms of graphical capabilities we can expect games on the console to eventually beat the high end PS3 and 360 games in graphics.

wii u has more RAM than ps360 and a stronger GPU but the CPU is believed to be slightly.

I see the WiiU as the console that could get rid of some of the terrible flaws of the 360 and PS3 in terms of graphics like poor AA implemntation in most games and higher quality textures.Ninty or some of their dev teams are probably woreking on something that will make WiiU developementbetter.I expect the next xbox and PS consoles to beat the WiiU in graphics.

if you look back at nintendo after the snes then it's really been a 3 year cycle for them. They have had a stong 3 years then beyond that it's been weak. Games have come out for the systems past the 3 years but from what i remember it's always been lackluster releases after 3 years

3rd party developers have already abandoned WiiU

Square is making a PS4/720 FF15 Agnes

Star Wars 1313 is for PS4/720

All next gen games are made for xbox 720/PS4 right now, WiiU is for those that want the true last gen console from Nintendo, because Wii was a generation behind

Seems funny that people actually waste money on such a useless system as WiiU, when with xbox 720 you are set for 7+ years with the top real next gen games

With a WiiU you know you get zero (0) next gen games by default, it is amazing Nintendo sold even one system TBH

WiiU is exactly like Wii, will get 3-4 good games for its whole life and miss everything else

I have played 300+ games on PS3/360 this generation and 3 !!!! games on Wii, the 100:1 difference is rather unbelievable

WiiU is definatly the future .... of non gaming

That's the real downfall of the Nintendo, I think. If they had released the Wii U back in 2006 with the same specs, they would be in a much better position right now. Instead, they lost all multiplatform support with the Wii because it was not powerful enough and did not include a standard controller, and now publishers are so accustomed to not making games for Nintendo's systems that they won't support the Wii U at all. The Wii U is already missing tons of multiplatform games that are on the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3, so why does anyone think that situation will improve once the multiplatform requirements get even higher when the next-gen game consoles come out?

Nintendo chose to release their true Gen 7 console a year before Gen 8 starts, and that is already biting them. It's hard enough for Nintendo as it is just to have the Wii U compete against its current-gen rivals, but when the Xbox 720, PS4, and even Steam Box arrive, the Wii U will end up being a joke with no punchline.

You are no gamer.

good words, sir
