[QUOTE="AHUGECAT"]Many sheep say you don't need to have good graphics to have a good game, yet every great amazing game also was backed up with great amazing graphics, examples include:
- The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - Considered one of the best, if not the best, game of all time, and of course had incredible graphics.
- Metroid Prime - Praised for its atmosphere, which was due to the power of the GameCube.
- Grand Theft Auto III - The Grand Theft Auto series wasn't popular until they went to full 3D instead of bird eye's view, which was due to the PS2's power.
- Resident Evil 4 - Because of the power of the GameCube, this is the first Resident Evil (at least I think) to use fully 3-dimensional in-game graphics, of course is considered one of the best games ever.
- Halo: Combat Evolved - The most praised Xbox game had some of the best graphics when it first launched.
- Metal Gear Solid (series) - Due to its amazing graphics, it immerses people into the game like no other games.
- Final Fantasy VII - The series amazing graphics and videos got RPG's popular outside of Japan, and forever changed the console industry.
These are just a few examples of great games that are great partly due to their graphics. Of course this is not always true. The Bouncer had amazing graphics but trash gameplay, while Katamary had trash graphics but amazing gameplay. But the general rule is still the same. This is why instead of getting games like Assassin's Creed and Resident Evil 5 Wii gamers get Prince of Persia: Rival Swords and Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles. Since most of the Wii powered is realized due to the fact it's just an overclocked GameCube, don't expect games to look much better than Xbox games, and because of this expect less amazing games.
Nintendo thought they could just overclock a GameCube, add a laughable online scheme and use a primitive controller as an excuse to make it cost $249, but hopefully they fail. Sure, the Wii is a success right now, but that's only because we are transitioning from the last generation, and are still used to last generation games, however the status quo is changing and the Wii will be left in the dust. The Wii is for gimmicks like Wii Sports and WarioWare: Smooth Moves, while the Xbox 360 is for real games like Mass Effect and Halo 3.

this game sold more than 50 million copies worldwide (all versions) the living proof that gameplay >>>> graphics
Mostly because it was a packed-in game for the Game Boy. Short macromedia-flash like games can't help a console survive.
PS1, PS2, DS all did/are doing well and were/are not the most powerful system..chicken008but they competed close to the strongest not far apart. what psp game leave DS mario 64 in the dust? or new super mario in graphics. what n64 game had better graphic than metal gear 1.. even n64 cutscene look worse. what xbox or gc game leave most of ps2 graphic in the dust? none. its only by a few. now 360 and ps3 leave wii in the dust big time.. you can actually tell with a glance which looks best. its so bad that the best ps2 game look better than all wii games so far.
[QUOTE="AHUGECAT"][QUOTE="natebayne"]Hugecat you are obviously a fanboy so there is nothing that can be said to persuade you. You think you have logical reasons for the Wii to fail. Its makes me laugh to read your posts.
the 360 already has the market where ps3 is trying to tread. The Wii is just simply more fun than the ps3. You honestly think graphics mean a damn thing? Remember this day .. when the ps3 fails... the 360 comes in 2nd.. and the Wii wins.
What else ya got fanboy?

Surely, you realize how badly you just self-owned. :| 1. Ocarina of Time was on the N64 - which lost majority marketshare for Nintendo. 2. Metroid Prime was on the worst selling Nintendo system of all-time. 3. Grand Theft Auto was not a great looking game by any standards. 4. Resident Evil 4 was, again, on the worst selling Nintendo system of all-time. 5. Halo was on the XBox - which BARELY outsold the GC. 6. He never said the MGS games do not have incredible graphics. He said they do not sell well just because of their graphics. I'm getting sick of this graphic bashing b/s that Wii haters spew. People do not buy a Wii because they want good graphics. They buy a Wii for gameplay. The majority of anti-Wii threads look like this: Wii has horrible graphics, TC posts a few images from games that were not built from the ground up for the Wii and then claims ownage.
It's getting kind of ridiculous. No one claims the Wii is more powerful than the X-Box 360/PS3 and no one ever will. Why? Because even the biggest sheep out there knows it's not. So please stop judging the Wii against standards it never attempted to reach. The Wii isn't about graphics, never was and never will be. When will you haters learn this? Eh?
Here's the reason why it won't fail:
- Cheap price
- Great for families
- Great option to get kids exercise
- Wiimote
- Great companion for either XBOX 360 and the PS3.

Price is not that good for a overclocked game cube. Better buy the kids a football... it is cheap and they get exercise.

The main reason Metal Gear Solid is so great is because it harnesses the power of its console, remember the early hype for MGS2 and how I think it was Snake who sneezed when walking by powder? Now I do not like Metal Gear Solid (quit Substance after 15 minutes), but even I know it's a technical achievement.

The Wii's gameplay is fine. Red Steel is an ok game and while the gameplay is far from perfect it's still good. The other two games don't really count as the Wii controls were tacked on so a quick buck could be made. If in a year from now the majority of Wii games have horrible gameplay I will admit that the Wii is somewhat of a failure. But for now, it's way too early to tell. Give the developers a chance to master building games from the ground up specifically for the Wii.
I'm glad you know the MGS games don't sell just because of their graphics. I was a little worried there. But you should have also included the fact that the games have great stories in your praise. And that's not technical at all.

What? Because they are trying to expand the industry to people who do not play games? Riiiggghhtttt... First off, three of those you named are from a publisher who has a terrible track-record with games at the moment. Second, two of the games haven't even been released so don't you dare assume that you have a valid point with that. Third, you are not a member of the gaming industry. You do not make games, therefore, your opinion means nothing to the companies that are making loads of money off of the Wii at the moment. Fourth, again, don't ever become a businessman because you would fail miserably. Companies are companies first, and game-makers second. Anyone that tells you differently is selling you something. Finally, please be a rational-thinking human being. Great libraries of anything do not mystically appear after 5 months on a shelf. Do you think that when books were first written we had greats like The Lord of the Rings, The Tale of Two Cities, Dantes Inferno, etc.? Absolutely not, so stop your wining. Yes, that is a bad thing. By expanding to people who don't play games, you're going to get more crap like WarioWare and less masterpieces like Resident Evil 5. This is a bad thing.
Ubisoft has a bad track record with the Wii because the Wii is trash. Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell, Rainbow Six, etc. etc. are all good games. No More Heroes looks to be cheesy while Resident Evil UC is going to be the next Dead Aim.
Why do YOU care if the companies make a lot of money? As a consumer (not a businessmen), I want the best games. I don't care if Nintendo makes $1358551325135. Can you seriously say you prefer Red Steel over Ghost Recon AW 2?
Yeah but there are also almost no good Wii games announced, the PS3 doesn't have a good library but the future looks better than the Wii's GAME wise.

I wonder if you play VGs, let alone played those games.AHUGECAT
I hate sport games period, and while the Wii version is "funner" than the Xbox 360 version, that's a crappy excuse because sport games are trash.
As impressive as Galaxy's graphics are, it still just looks like an OC'd GameCube game.
I am talking about stuff like Madden NFL, NBA Live, MLB 2K, that stuff, not racers or Mario Kart type games. Although Forza kills Crap Turismo.
Galaxy's graphics are great but pale to Conker.
 That's a lie.

SMG's graphics in no way pale in comparison to Conker for X-Box. Look at these two images without your fanboy goggles please...you will see a much clearer image. I promise.Â

You are hopeless. I'm not saying SMG looks better than Conker in the same way Gears of War looks better than Conker. But it does look better, even if it's not by leaps and bounds.
[QUOTE="Strider212"][QUOTE="AHUGECAT"][QUOTE="Strider212"][QUOTE="AHUGECAT"][QUOTE="natebayne"]Hugecat you are obviously a fanboy so there is nothing that can be said to persuade you.
AHUGECAT
The Wii won't win. Sure you can bring up the DS but the DS also has conventional games like Mario Kart, New Super Mario Brothers and Castlevania to back it up. The Wii is nothing but a failed gimmick.
And what do you get in return? Crap like Red Steel, Far Cry, TMNT, No More Heroes, Umbrella Chronicles, etc. etc.
Yes the companies are making money but destroying the gaming industry as well.
Why do I care if more people play games? Because it means more competition and more variety will spawn from it. That's your problem. You only look in the short run, and never in the long run. If more people play, more people will want to invest their time and money into games. Sure, not every one will be a gem, but more variety is a good thing. Just because you like one type of game (Violence-oriented) doesn't mean that the industry should be saturated by it. Remember when every other game was a WWII shooter? Sure there were some awesome games MOH:AA and COD were fantastic games, but eventually it got old, and developers got new ideas. Thus came Halo, so many people enjoyed that game that another spawn of futuristic shooters came out, and now we have exciting things like Bioshock on the way. The casuals are the bread and butter of the industry. Hardcore gamers represent a very small portion of the industry, and when the casuals go away, companies take away money and invest it elsewhere. When that happens, you can kiss your Resident Evil 5 gone. Let me just give you a quick Econ lesson. If the Wii continues selling like it is, we will see companies trying to one-up (no pun intended) one another to create the most intriquing product in order to distinguish it from the others. This means that a lot of the trash that is pouring in right now (I'm looking at you Ubisoft) is going to diminish, and we are going to see more high-quality products. Developers go where the sales are. Why do you think that the PS2 got great games like Final Fantasy and the such? Because it had the most power? Hell no. It held the most opportunity to make money. /of lesson. Many sheep say you don't need to have good graphics to have a good game, yet every great amazing game also was backed up with great amazing graphics, examples include:
AHUGECAT
Not 'every great amazing game' had great amazing graphics. I could pull out multitudes of examples if you want.
The PS2 was the weakest machine out of the three last gen, and yet it still won the day. The NES was weaker than the Sega Master System, and yet it scarfed up even more market share than Sony had in its very best days. No one but the fanboys are saying that graphics aren't important. However, there is a point where the graphics are 'good enough'. Are the Wii's graphics 'good enough'? It depends on the type of game being made, the art style, and what exactly the developer does with it. Supposedly most of the current Wii games were made on modified Gamecube dev kits. Nintendo recently shipped out real Wii dev kits, so things may be improving soon.
The Wii is more than 'an overclocked Gamecube'. That's like saying the PS3 is an overclocked PS2 which was an overclocked PS1, or the 360 is an overclocked Xbox. Not only that, to call the Wii controller 'primative' just shows your fanboy bias. It's probably the most advanced controller ever available for a console. It was impressive enough so that Sony decided to tack on a half assed motion sensing system onto the DualShock. Also, the Wii is not failing. It's succeeding spectacularly, and devs are taking notice.
I also find your definition of 'real games' to be lacking, but maybe that's because I grew up steering a little yellow pizza with a piece missing around a maze.
Oh, and GTA III was a multiplatform game from the start. It's just that Sony came along and said "OMG! That looks awesome! We'll pay you buckets of money to make it a PS2 exclusive!" and Rockstar said "Sure!" and shoved the Xbox and PC versions in the closet for years.

Yeah more variety... either mega crap like Red Steel or plain crap like WarioWare. The Wii has a lot of potential, but its lack of power is holding it back. Instead of getting Resident Evil 5 and Assassin's Creed it's getting Umbrella Chronicles and Rival Swords instead.
Call of Duty came after Halo, and Medal of Honor was fresh when it came out. Yes those FPS are getting old, but the Wii should be STRIVING on first person shooters since they sell alot. But alas, instead of getting a "killer-app" shooter like Half-Life, Gears of War or Halo we get Far Cry Instincts.
Yes, and when I kiss Resident Evil 5 gone, I will also kiss all that's fun about video games. What's happening with the Wii is the same that happened with Atari in the 80's - too many crap games being made. Hopefully the Wii doesn't use the controller as a rape game like that one game on the Atari.
We'll just have to wait and see.

Metroid prime, resident evil 4, and final fantasy 7 were dated even when they were released. People would probably disagree on re4, but it used low res textures all throughout just to keep a good framerate. Heck, its much worse on the ps2. Sadly, the wii isn't going to fail. Nintendo had a great plan to get tons of cash this generation, and they already have gained so much since launch.
On the part i do agree with you though, is the wiis price. If its more than 150$, its overpriced because the technology is last gen. Heck, if you look hard enough, you can get a next gen system for 250$. A controller and a simple game alone, doesn't warrant 100$. I'd be fine if the wii was 150$, but its too close into next gen territory. Well i own one, so i got to make do with it.
