After playing The Witcher for the last few hours, I must say...

When it comes to story and choices, this game trounces Dragon Age easily. In Dragon Age, your choices never really mattered and had no repercussions outside losing/gaining party approval. But, in The Witcher, your choices do matter! I have found myself reloading save games because some choices I made didn't pan out as well as I thought they did.

And the storyline is far better too, though I still rate Dragon Age's writing a little higher.

Unfortunately, The Witcher's voice acting is average and the gameplay is awful. Its fabulous storytelling is the only reason that I keep playing.

But, since I play RPGs mostly for the story and characters, I find myself liking The Witcher far more than I ever liked Dragon Age (though Dragon Age is still a solid game). Despite BioWare's claims that they have mastered dark fantasy, The Witcher (being sourced from other material) is far better in creating that sense of uncertainty and darkness than Dragon Age ever did.

And finally, I'd take Triss over Morrigan any day. She looks so hot in The Witcher 2 trailer...

Same. I have Dragon Age 2 pre-ordered, might pre-order The Witcher 2 as well.

They should improve the gameplay, however. But, bad gameplay isn't that great of a dealbreaker for me, though, so long as the story is good.

Voice acting can really use an improvement, though.

Yeah, the combat was pretty mediocre in The Witcher, so it's likely something they'll fix.

I agree on the VA. Some were ok, but a lot needed imrpovement. I particularly hated the Professor.

If actual gameplay were better, I would give the edge to the witcher, but I still feel as a whole that Dragon Age is better. I just loved the characters more as well.

The Texturen mod and Hi-Res Characters were great for the game. Unfortunately, they pretty much maxed out the engine when installed together :(

Oh yeah. I need to re-play the game, so i'll install it this time around. The last time I was having issues with the game crashing regularly, so I limited the amount of mods installed.

Hmm I must say I disagree.

In Dragon Age your choices can decide who lives and who dies, who becomes a king, whether to spare or pwn bad guys, etc. Plus there's character customization and a background story based on what you choose.

Idk if it's better than witcher but it's certainly better than you described.

Also Dragon Age pulverizes Witcher in gameplay.

Yeah, but the consequences for most of those choices are only written down on some title card at the end of the game, not really experienced by the player in any way whatsoever. Sure, if you kill Irving, the Circle would be unable to help you free Connor from the Fade demon which inhabits him, but those sort of moments are very few.

But, I do agree with your point on gameplay.

Please... tell me of these choices which made you reload your games, the only choices I remeber that actually matters is Neutral/Squia'tell (spelling? Sorry, been a long time :P )/Order of the Flaming Rose, and you can do the same in DA:O.

I couldn't finish DA:O. It's waaaaay too long. I quit around the 50-60 hour mark. The Witcher has very likeable protagonist, nice story and NPCs whereas DA will probably be more appealing to people that like hardcore DnD-like RPGs.

The Witcher was great. It felt unique and fresh from the other RPG titles on the PC. I got sucked in the world right in but too bad my PC couldn't handle it. Nonetheless, I kept playing. The story was great. It was way darker than Dragon Age. It had controversial themes than DA didn't have. It was also true to the books. I just can't shake the feeling that The Witcher 2 gonna flop. BTW, give me Adda over Triss or Morrigan any day ;) .

First off, I LOVE DRAGON AGE. It's one of my favorite RPG's of all time. Yes, I know it's generic, but that doesn't bother me. It's bioware, its set in medieval type era, and its got a fantastic soundtrack and set of characters and choices.

With that said. I REALLY WANT TO PLAY THE WITCHER... They just don't have it out on Mac :( It's got me intrigued like Morrowind did, and I really want to get my hands on it :/

Your choices almost always have a consequence in the game. I like the witcher's atmosphere and sense of place, its grittiness. But I think I prefer Dragon Age because its a much more polished game with more variety in the combat, interesting party mechanics. Hey at least we can agree that both games are better than Oblivion right?!

The Witcher was awesome, but the combat seriously needed some changes. It was a little too dull. Plus I guess the writing was a bit sloppy. People say its a translation thing. The English dialogue was awful at times. DragonAge was uninspired across the board though. From the played out aesthetic, to Bioware's used and abused plot line, to a fluffed battle system that was backed up with some of the most horrendous level design Bioware has done this side of Mass Effect 2. It was all incredibly boring. Much more interested in Witcher 2 than Dragon Age 2.

I liked the combat with the rebalance mod.

Makes it much more challenging and you have to really think before you go against most enemies.

.

I just started the game up again to try it out.

The choices and story are slightly superior to Dragon Age, but The Witcher's gameplay is god-****ing-awful. The writing, voice acting, and customization are all way better in Dragon Age as well. Overall, I'd rate Dragon Age slightly higher than The Witcher.

I don't really care about customization.

I found the story in The Witcher to be much more superior.

Also I loved the gameplay in The Witcher much more than Dragon Age especially with the Full Combat Rebalance mod.

In Dragon Age all you have to do is pick a mage and you can breeze through the combat, with The Witcher combat mod you always have to be on your feet.

I agree, I found Dragon Age to be a more enjoyable experience. I really like creating my own character and the choices in Dragon Age were pretty varied.

[QUOTE="H-Revolver"]The Witcher was great. BTW, give me Adda over Triss or Morrigan any day ;) .H-Revolver

Why do you think part 2 is going to flop? :?

I don't know. I keep thinking that it would turn out like another great-pc-rpg-poorly-ported-to-consoles. Like Gothic 4. BTW, seeing all those screenies makes me play Witcher all over again.

the game is being made for the PC and only after the game is released for the PC will the developers then start looking into porting the game to the consoles. Gothic 4 wasn't made by the team who developed the Gothic series btw

Maybe a slower form of Diablo. Still I'll take a RPG where my choices are ultimately more important than grinding combat over the opposite any day.

No.

Witcher would be a better game if it it's presentation wasn't so awful. Dragon Age is easily the higher quality game.

What seems funny is that both The Witcher and Dragon Age had crashing problems.

With Dragon Age is was random and with The Witcher it happened after saving a certain amount of times.

Both The Witcher and Dragon Age had texture mods too.

.

I think the Witcher had the best drunk effects.

They even did a good job on the drunk animations. He walks slowly and sluggishly teeteringback and forth.
