Yeah I agree. The Witcher was a little rough around the edges, but that didn't stop it from being one of the greatest RPG's of the decade. Not being as good as The Witcher is no shame however, and Fable is a good series in it's own right.Fabel has a level of polish The Witcher lacks. Even so, The Witcher is still a better game. Fable is entirely too simple in its mechanics. I really love how The Witcher's morality system are all just different shades of grey.

I haven't played the Witcher, but I love what I know and have seen of it. I'm even apart of The Witcher Guild :). I like the Fable series and I feel it gets bashed too much. While it offers many things, its too simple for my RPG needs though.
At this point its tough for me to thoroughly compare them as a series. Plus, Fable is headed for its 3rd installment, while Witcher is just now getting a sequel next year making. Its still a young series.
The Witcher by miles. :| The Witcher is my favorite RPG this gen, and one of my favorite RPGs ever. It's voice acting can be hit and miss, and it has some awkward scenes, especially the beginning Alvin scene, but the ending was epic. Fable series is more polished, but The Witcher does everything better. Story, characters, combat, alchemy system, envoirements, mission design, lore...
I'm replaying the Witcher now for the first time since 07. I wasn't sure if I would like it as much now as I did then, but after talking to the dwarf about why the humans were racially intolerant towards dwarves and elves, and his reply being "why do pr*cks go in c*nts?, that's the natural order of things", I remembered what made this game so special. The themes it deals with, and the constant oppressive atmosphere of a medieval like, plague stricken world and the parallels it draws from that time in history are unique. It's an amazing experience. The Witcher by miles. :| The Witcher is my favorite RPG this gen, and one of my favorite RPGs ever. I go along with these.
say what? Fable 2 is full of game breaking bugs that require to load an old save, you feel like you are floating over the ground, and the combat is simplified past the point of it being possible to screw up. Witcher ee has far more polish. Unless polish is just voice acting, then let me remind you the witcher is originally a Polish game.Fabel has a level of polish The Witcher lacks. When playing The Witcher, you notice that a lot of NPC models are repeated, the facial animation is pretty crude and the severe limits of the game world in regards to invisible walls and the like (due to the use of the aurora engine - which they squeezed a hell of a lot out of). For me, at least, that's what I was getting at when I said it lacked a bit of polish.[QUOTE="XaosII"]

i havent played the witcher, and ive been meaning to buy it... but im familiar with the game.
I dont expect it to be better than fable. Fable has a sense of enjoyment you dont quite get with traditional RPGs...
Two completely different games to make a fair comparison. They don't even belong to the same genre nor share the same audience. The Witcher is a mature RPG while Fable is a childish action-adventure.
RyuRanVII
fable was rated M.
the whole concept behind fable is that of an adult fairy tale. Which is an inventive concept and good deal of its charm. Its quite a nice change of pace from the traditional RPG... it is far from childish.
Fable I was an excellent, charming, simple action game. Fable II I thought was a lot worse because all the charm just fell flat on its face to me, the combat lacked the rhythm of the attacking and blocking of the first and was just reduced to mashing one button, and while the customization and property mechanics were improved, they were lessened by the fact that it was even more stupidly easy to acquire ridiculous amounts of gold.
The Witcher is great. I'll go with that.
I haven't played Fable II, so I can be wrong judging the whole series. But Fable: The Lost Chapters was a childish game compared to The Witcher.
RyuRanVII
specifically what is it that makes it childish? I played the first fable so long ago i hardly remember it... but i dont recall anything inherently childish about it.
Witcher>>>>>>>>>Fable 2 (never played part 1). Now don't get me wrong I enjoyed Fable 2 but Witcher is better is pretty much every aspect IMO.
I love Fable a lot more. When I played the first game I was very dissapointed. It wasn't until years later I learned to appreciate it. I loved the second one from the start even though it too fell short of the hype.
There is just something about the humor and charm of the game that can't be matched.
The Witcher didn't float my boat at all. Cool game, but it bored me to death.
We need a poll the prove how much better The Witcher is.Head_of_games

depends, but usually the pc version is expected to be better. If they come out the same day, you might get cut and paste reviews, if the pc version comes out later they dont hold back on the pc standards.Easy now.. Fable's combat system gets bashed a lot, but imo The Witcher's is only SLIGHTLY better. Overall I would give the edge to Fable, mainly because of the polish.I haven't played The Witcher and I even know it's better than Fable.

I actually find the witcher ee more polished than fable 2, much better animation, and the invisible walls arent as noticeable. Well I could go on, but people just give fable 2 a free pass for being cartoony and having native english voice acting.I haven't played The Witcher and I even know it's better than Fable.

The sex cards may feel a little immature, but besides that, it's easily one of the most mature games out there. Just because the subject matter found in the game is harsh, it does not make it immature. If Fable is childish then The Witcher is even worse; It's teenage immature crap. However, I think neither is true.

The Witcher by far. Why are you comparing the witcher to fable?
SwagSurf
why not?
it's not like i'm comparing a shooter to an rpg.
both games are rpgs and have similar concepts
