Wait a second now. The US isn't the entire world? Who's spreading this propoganda?Velric
Shocking isn't it? I was floored for days when I found out.....Even more so when I found out George Bush wasn't Jesus.
The problem is some see the US as the video game industry and other countires don't matter. Well they do matter and from the looks of it gaming maybe cheaper in europe. I may not be a master of economics but 17 sounds cheaper for a game than the 50 we in america pay.

Its not the 17 that directly translates 34 its the fact that console games are sold at £45 which translates to $90...
Console are made for the convenience of video games for any room at home. They are quick and easy to use for this need.
PCs are mostly not.
Cedmln
MiniAtx and stores that assmble the pC for you solve both these issues...

They may do that, but how many people are actually using this? Not enough.
Consoles are still the convenient way to go as there is little assembling to do. See?

The majority argument is sad and weak....the Dubya election is clear example of that...
Assembly if done NOT by the user is 0 obstacle...

My point exactly...
And the majority rule is exactly why consoles are so popular.
When that if is a fact in any hardware store? Plus I find the majority and popularity contest more pathetic than a peeing contest...
[QUOTE="Hexagon_777"][QUOTE="Eponique"][QUOTE="True_Gamer_"][QUOTE="Eponique"]I'm pretty sure console gaming is still more popular than PC gaming in the UK, just look at the sales charts, there were only about 2-3 PC games compared to 9 Wii games in the top 40. :?Eponique
That casts a serious doubt on peoples IQ...buying something thats £17 elsewere for £45...
Neh, the only reason I don't PC game is because it's too complicated.
How so?
Pretty much, the entire "build your PC" process.
Everythings labeled in either text or colour coding ... you dont need to read a single manual!

If you bought the parts there they will cover them with at least 1 year warranty...plus if they would break things up they wont be open for long...
You have nothing to complain about!
In Norway (Thats a country in Europe) the following costs:
A console game: 110 US Dollars
A pc game: 90 US Dollars
A Wii: 450 US Dollars
A Playstation 3: 900 US Dollars
Ok, the dollar is weak, thus affection the valuta exchangerates. And Norway is one of the most wealthy countries on earth. But it's still alot of cash to pay for games. I hate the high prices, I really do,
Worldwide I'm sure the PC is the number platform to game on, especially in Asia(Minus Japan) and in most of Europe. The MMO scene in Asia is just off the hook, Ragnarok Online has somewhere around 15 million players the last I checked, thing is it's not nearly as popular here in the States, so you don't hear much talk about it, mostly WoW. Console gaming is only big in Japan, and it's dwarfed next to the rest of the continent which is mostly all PC gaming. Monthly fees and microtransactions are the main business model, as there are pretty no retail market for new games though, it's just not a popular in that sense. As Westerners, we only look at NPD, which is brick and mortar US retail, and at this point, it's ridiculous online sales and MMO subs aren't taken into consideration. If they honestly counted what the PC gaming industry is pulling in, I'm sure people's perception would greatly change, as it absolutely dwarfs any other platform in comparison.
After reading yet another thread spouting misconceptions about PC gaming Ill state something that console fanboys avoid like plague:
In Europe PC gaming is FAAR cheaper than anything else...Console gamers are ripped off every single moment after the purchase of their console...
UK is the worst example £45 for a game that I can buy on PC for £17? Are these people serious? When 8800GT cost £130-£160? I mean cmon people are the EU console gamers percieved from the console game makers as complete morons?
True_Gamer_
Console gaming is a cheaper cash dump straight off. You get long term savings but a big cash dump. Most people can afford £45 every few weeks compared to £500 straight off.
+ It comes down to accesability. How many 10 year olds do you see playing on the PC? Compared to 10 year olds on console?
The main reason Console gaming is so much cheaper here is because you can either put down 200 dollars to the microsoft monopoly, and end up paying double the cost of parts for the comp, or buy a Mac for even more $$$, and play nothing but ports.
pretty much, the console market in the US is the only place where any real competition occurs. Apple And M$ products are interweaved and interlinked to the point that they are pretty much the same damn company. But Sony, M$, Nintendo, thats a real fight.

Quite suprised by that. But then again. The games their playing are probably those cheap £10 things you find in asda like winnie the poo and ****. So we wouldn't see them around on our games. Yet I do see more younger gamers myself on consoles. Still, intresting that.

While you're right, you're exaggerating by stating the highest possible price anyone would pay for a console game compared to the lower price you'd ever get for a PC game. Your typical console game is around 37 bucks when it first comes out (from game stores), and the PC games are usually set at 27.99 for new games.
it almost is. a lot of countries blindly copy everything from the U.S.A..
Most idiots think they're living a hollywood scenario.

Yes but it doesn't work like that, does it? Norway has the highest standard of living in the world (at least it was last year...). You cant just convert to dollars and say "look we pay more!" because you dont. You earn more money and therefore things naturally cost more to balance out the economy.

That;s political. We're talking about gamers. And I really hope you're not that niave.
I am always glad that PC gaming never really took over from console gaming. Consoles brought gaming to the masses and made it profitable business to be in.
Consoles can sit quietly under your TV and deliver wonder gaming experiences with the minimum of fuss. They are perfectly suited to their task and its just lovely to leave your PC in the study and close the door on it at the end of a hard working day :)

What? The exchange rate is more than $2 to the pound. An 8800gtx is £300 ($600), and the same card in america is around $450. If anything Europe and the UK are ripped off more than anyone in the entire world.MegaPigeon

A console game in store costs 40-45 POUNDS....Thats 80-90 bucks...A PC game costs 30-35 POUNDS...Thats 60-70 bucks...
Online things get even more ridiculus: PC games cost 17-25 POUNDS...Thats 34-50 bucks....And console games cost 30-40 pounds...Thats 60-80 bucks...Get your facts straight...
