This is why I have been buying online for a looong time, I thought the government was supposed to start asking why the **** our electronics/games are more expensive..sooo..when the hell is that happening...And no *Delivery* is no longer a good excuse stop screwing aussies over..
The formula should be something like game price / average (or minimum) income = times required to buy a game, like how they do the Big mac index. For example, with minimum wage in Canada, buying a new game is possible with a 8 hours of working time; in Taiwan it would be about 21 hours; in Guangdong it would be like 43.5 hours, etc.

I'd have to go with Japan for having to wade through a sea of utter cr*p to find anything worth while. Thank tuna you can still buy western games there.
dont see why aussies keep getting hated on. Its really not as bad as everyone thinks.campzor
It's not you that's getting hated on. It's the stupid R18 rule, and the crazy fvcking prices for games. NZ has that last one real bad as well.
But in terms of censorship, there are far worse
They pay ridiculous prices. The UK used to be bad, but not that bad. I used to work for around 3.20 an hour when I was 16 and games used to cost around 40 when I lived there 8-9 years ago. In Canada, I earn $12+ an hour and games cost $70 with tax. That's 6 more hours of work :( I love Canada :P

the r18+ rule is gone as of next year and the prices are not bad when you compare with our minimal wage compared to the U.S, especially when u find deals (easily) which are not RRP and new games sell for $79-89 on release.I'm Australian myself, and I have to say that if you resort to importing every console and game from other PAL countries like the UK, you would find Australia to be a fantastic country for games considering we get payed a lot here and $60-$70 is chump change which is the usual price for games elsewhere.
Iceland is probably the best country for PC gaming. Water cooling? HA in Ice land our computer parts are always -200 degrees.I would say Vietnam and Laos are good candidates...
IIRC,some time ago Vietnam introduced a law about shutting down Internet at later night hours.Read about it somewhere.Don't know if it's still in effect,though...

Afghanistan? Somalia?........Jebus213One of the worst countries in the world to be a human, so yeah, those two.
Isnt my US dollar worth $2 in Canada? They pay ridiculous prices. The UK used to be bad, but not that bad. I'm gonna go with Ethiopia but I'm just guessing. For all I know it might be Somalia or something, maybe Congo.
I feel for gamers in areas that have harsh censorship policies. As for the prices, what's the minimum wage in AUS? If it's high, then the prices would be fair. Here in BC, our minimum wage is $10.25. So a $60 game + taxes = 67.20. That's a little more than 6 hours of work. Seems more than fair for the content one gets.

No.

1.00USD=1.01032CAD according to this site. The Canadian dollar has been fairly strong for a while now.
I used to live in Bulgaria and it was a nightmare.
I'm the UK now and it's unbelievable how much cheaper games are, and how much faster they go down in price.
Australia is not the worst country to be a gamer. Hardly any games get censored, and although retailers like to rip us off, it's still pretty easy to buy games for good prices.
The prices is tough to judge because different countries have a different average wage, different living costs etc... So whilst games might be more expensive in one country you might have more money in that country anyway.hoosier7
There are also countries with lower wage, yet the game prices are higher. In Taiwan (where I live now, left Canada years ago), games like dragon age collection / hearts of iron 3 collection still cost more than they do in the west, and our salary is only 1/3 of the Canada wage if not lower.

They play Call of Duty in real life. Can't be that bad.
LOLI hate when people my ideas even though they post it first. You mean that they don't use PS2's to launch their missiles?[QUOTE="tagyhag"]North Korea would be worse.sherman-tank1
... Pick any 3rd world country... And there you go.. sSubZerOothe difference there is that they aren't hooked on gaming there so it's not really an issue. Australia are an equal member of western culture but they have extremely high game prices as well as censorship. They can look across the ocean at a gaming paradise by comparison.
That article is terrible, its a few items of stats, then a lot of nonsence written around it and then in the end, author isnt really able to have shown in any way a reasonabl conclusion show form the article,so he just says Australia based on its reputationTwoFace-BSlol
