A few console innovations because of the Xbox 360:

- Achievements. Gaming without achievements is no longer the same.
- Wireless controller standard
- Guide button
- Detachable hard drive
- Free three year warranty
- RTS, WRPGs and FPS that actually work on a console (incredible)
- Best controller ever
- Project Natal.... best non-controller ever
- Xbox Live Arcade
- Netflix
- Xbox Live Primetime (ie 1vs100)
- NXE
- XNA
and so much more

Sony keeps trying to catch up but just looks a poor imitation (their triggers for their DS3 are garbage compared to 360's, PSN is a joke compared to LIVE, Resistance and Killzone 2 are nothing compared to Gears/Halo 3, trophies aren't as good as achievements, etc. etc.).

A lot of people like the SNES and PS2... but those weren't really innovative consoles. PS2 especially. PS2 was so outdated it even only included 2 controller ports AND had no ethernet/hard drive!

I don't think the controller was always at a wireless standard. I remember wired controllers. People can argue that the PS3 controller is the best (it's design has stood the test of time) or the Wiis is the best (the innovation that the controller presents is why that white rectangle sells so well). The other consoles don't need the free 3 year warenty as your faulty device does so thats a bitter sweet thing really. You want to talk about an innovative idea for hard drives? How about the PS3's laptop hard drive vs your proprietary hard drive. PSN is free which allows it to be slightly inferior to your live service. O well, at least you are glad with your purchase congrats.

Is it the most innovative console of all time? No The most innovative this gen? Yes, tied with the wii. Has it set a lot of things in place for other people to follow? Of course :P Anyways, I like the points you made in your thread OP, it's a nice thread although be ready to get flamed by cows who are gonna claim that blutooth and blu-ray are innovating

Because it hasnt been done before on a gaming console, and it has never been that available to the general public.

A lot of people are saying the wii is innovative - but HOW? The Wiimote is only good for "non-games" like Cooking Mama, Surgeon Center or whatever.... it's NOT good for regular games which is why it has such poor third party support. Everything MS has done has pushed gaming forward like never before.

so because the 360 controller isnt wired like the one that comes with PS3 it isnt innovative? On both 360 and wii you have the option to buy rechargeable batteries.

You didn't think this one through...lets have a look: Achievements - Basically unlockables with a new name and look. Wireless controller standard - This is innovative how? LOL Guide button - basically a start button with features, seen on the PSP b4 the 360 debuted. Detachable HDD - how is this innovative...consoles have had detachable units for years. warranty - NO, just NO...used only to mask the real issue and keep lawsuits out. Problem still lingers. Best controller - Its a dreamcast/cube controller thrown in one...nothing innovative..SORRY and besides...OPINION. Natal - isn't even OUT! haha Netflix - who cares. Xbox live - might give you this one. And yeah Sony is catching up, considering the 360 basically became the PS3 with its addons of HDMI, bigger HDD, HD-DVD, 1080p resolution. HAHA i'm done. :)

No absolutely not. I don't even think you understand the word "innovative". Perhaps most "evolved" (which it isn't, every console is equally evolved this gen, in different ways) is more fitting what you're saying.

Simply, regardless of your personal opinion, the Wii is the most innovative. Now it's my favorite, but you can say it's the most innovative without liking it because regardless of how much you like it, it is revolutionary. It's the first console to take motion control to your home, and also the first form of gaming ever to make motion control standard.

It certainly does not make the game worse either, when implemented right there's no way motion controls can' make a game better. This whole thread is one stupid fanboy statement.

Gangstah-Fresh

^This. The 360 is the least innovate of the new consoles. The only thing it brought to the table was updated graphics, which are sub par compared to the PS3 now. You want to talk about MOST innovative, that would have to be the Wii.

Achievements - Basically unlockables that add to gamerscore and are very addicting

Wireless controller standard - no other system has had a wireless controller be standard

Guide button - a start button? LOL... it's NOTHNG like a start button and the PSP is a handheld machine. If the PSP innovated it then why is Sony's "guide button" a direct rip off of MS' guide button? That's right - MS innovated it

Detachable hard drive - the PS2 never came with a hard drive

Warranty - yes, just YES. When Sony's PS2's got DRE like crazy Sony said "HAHA! LOL @ YOU GUYS! NOW BUY ANOTHER PS2 SO WE CAN REACH 140 MILLION!" And the RROD is almost non-existant in new consoles

Best controller - yes, it is a dc/cube controller and it made it the best

NATAL - doesn't need to be out... already super innovative

Netflix - who cares? Tons of people do

HDMI, meh. Bigger HDD? That's not an innovation. HD DVD was for movies and not for games, and MS didn't even care about it all that much.

HAHAHAHA okay I just said this was all one huge show of fanboyism but this statement just pushed it beyond imagination. Only good for non-game games huh? So I suppose Legend of Zelda is a non-game? And so are FPSs (yes, face it, dual analog is TERRIBLE for FPSs). Because ya, Metroid Prime's controls were just TERRIBLE weren't they? Ya forget that critics PRAISED the controls and even PC gamers started to think there was another way to play shooters. And so are all sports games. Also No More Heroes and Mad World aren't really games. Also racing games aren't real games. Your signature is also a joke. you rate all the PS3 games badly and all the 360 games well, regardless of actual quality (i.e. MGS 4 and inFamous are both way better than Halo 3). You're just the complete epitome of a fanboy.

Wireless built in? Thats not really all too innovative. Who owns 7 controllers? What do you mean by touch sensitive buttons? None of that is really that innovative.

I have the Wii and the Wiimote is truly only useful for games that would be rated a negative on every other console in this generation. I personally prefer fps on my PS3 over my Wii but controls aren't the only reason (graphics play a part in this preference as well).

DeeDeeDee-er

Legend of Zelda is so much better on a regular controller (the Wii version of TP was a joke), and FPS aren't any good either on the Wii - the mouse is still far better, and even analogs are better than the Wiimote (compare Call of Duty or Medal of Honor for example). No More Heroes and Mad World? LOL...... LOL.... that's IT? Come on now! No More Heroes would have been better without those useless motion controls (and I would know, I have it). And MGS4 and Infamous better than Halo 3?

^This. The 360 is the least innovate of the new consoles. The only thing it brought to the table was updated graphics, which are sub par compared to the PS3 now. You want to talk about MOST innovative, that would have to be the Wii.

^This is what I was going to add, before somebody else did it for me.
