[QUOTE="accameron"]Halo pretty much sold the original XBOX by itself, and I have never seen a gaming craze and hype like is going on right now for Halo 3. It was on the cover of Time magazine! Grand Theft Auto 3 helped move PS2 into the position that made it ultimately win (I personally bought a PS2 back in the day only to play GTA3). The next GTA will likely be a big event, and will sell like crazy. Gran Turismo, to a lesser extent, is also a system seller, but I imagine that upon release there will be less of an impact on the gaming community like Halo has and GTA probably will. When Mario releases on Wii, I imagine that it will sell well too, but there will not be much mainstream media hype. And Pokemon somehow manages to sell like crazy. These games make people BUY systems. IMO these are the only legit system sellers.
Final Fantasy and MGS are great, and they sell a lot, but don't expect even a fraction of the craze when they are released as you see right now with Halo 3 (I keep seeing people here say that MGS will sell like Halo 3- no way).

You do realize that FF is the 4th best selling franchise of all time? Yes, there have been more FF games than Halo, but FF7 alone sold better than Halo 1 or 2. I'm not saying Halo is not a system seller, but there are a lot more system selling games than just Mario, pokemon (1st and 2nd best selling franchises) GT, GTA and Halo (which was 40th, prior to H3's release). FF have always sold systems. Metroid sells systems, and Zelda. MGS sells systems. RE was a system seller before it went all multiplat. It's still a system seller, just not limited to one system. There are something like 50-60 video games franchises that have sold over 10 million units. Any one of them can justifiably be called a system seller. Actually, for that matter, any individual game that sells more than 1 or 2 million is a system seller, as chances are out of that 1 or 2 million there are a lot of people who buy the system just for that one game.
Yeah, I know that Final Fantasy has sold a ton. But my biggest complaint is that the biggest selling one (FF7) was like 10 years ago. Also, when you have 12 main FF games, plus COUNTLESS spinoffs and remakes, you are bound to have huge sales. My definition of a true system seller is what you see right now with Halo 3- lines at the store of people buying the game + the system.
