If we are going to go back that far, why not include their overall influences in there too?
Eliminate Nintendo: Would Playstation exist? Analog? Feedback? Motion Control? Portable gaming?
Eliminate Sony: Would we be playing on cartridges now? What would happen to RPG's?
Eliminate Microsoft: Would Online gaming be the same? Achievements... Are they even necessary?
Does this change things? Or is it ONLY about the games?

I think the TC is referring to the present.
If I could only keep two publishers today, they'd definitely be Nintendo and Microsoft.
I've never been a fan of Microsoft's core games, but I like their casual approach with Kinect.
It complements the industry nicely.

That may actually happen...Sony seems a bit aimless right now. With their massive debts we may see Sony go under in the future if they don't start shaping up their game.
I AM the original TC!
What I meant was: If we only talk about software and series, it seems clear most would eliminate MS. If we went further and eliminated the publishers from the timeline all together (past, present and future) would people still answer the same way?
I mentioned the series from present times in the original question, because to me Sony and MS are still modern consoles, but if you chose Nintendo for example... No NES, no SNES, No Link to the Past, or Skyward Sword. Playstation? Say goodbye to Crash Bandicoot and Jak and Daxter. Microsoft? Well, the original Mass Effect was Published by MS, so say goodbye to that whole series, no Jade Empire, no Live... I guess I should have made it more clear!
Easy decision really. Microsoft could drop off the face of the earth and I wouldn't give it a second thought.
MS started off very strong with the 360 but as of late its been kind of disappointing. Ninty are top dogs when it comes to quality still. and Sony release some great exclusives and have had a great year.
[QUOTE="commonfate"]I love it, but if we dump Microsoft we only lose the 360 and its little exclusives. We lose much more with Sony and Nintendo. yea but then we're stuck win psn and friend codes :? what kind of life is that?No one likes Halo? :(

Say you have the Ultimate Power to decide who dies or thrives in the Game industry, but there is only room for TWO major powers. Who do you eliminate? The catch is: Eliminate a Publisher and ALL of their First/Second Party games and Series vanish forever!
Eliminate Nintendo: No Mario. No Zelda. No Metroid. No Starfox. No Pokemon.
Eliminate Sony: No inFamous. No Resistance. No Gran Turismo. No Uncharted. No God of War.
Eliminate Microsoft: No Halo. No Gears. No Forza. No Mass Effect. No Fable. No (more) Perfect Dark, Banjo or Rare games.
Who goes and why?

only room for two? there's pc 3.

People like Halo, its just that... well, its just that. That's the only really big thing MS would really lose. Gears of War from what I hear could have been multiplat, but Epic has a strong relationship with MS to keep it exclusive, and other then Kinect titles there isn't a whole lot to lose from Microsoft.
It also helps that if Microsoft did cut their Xbox division, there is a good chance they'd just move whatever games they didn't sell off Sega style on PC. Unlike the other two companies, we would not only not lose as many exclusives from gaming, but we probably wouldn't lose any at all if they kept the game division open and the console division cut (TC wasn't clear on the rules here)
Personally I think Forza would make a good PC franchise, you have sims on PC, but none with the budget and polish Forza has. I'd also probably have Halo go to EA (couldn't be any worse then MS, right?) or pretty much any multiplat publisher so it could stay on consoles where it would get the most love.
[QUOTE="Floppy_Jim"]Microsoft. It's not a fair question because they don't support a handheld like Sony & Nintendo. But MS and that's why.peterw007
But do we really need more than one handheld in the market?
The diversity of games was just fine when Game Boy + Game Boy Color + Game Boy Advance ruled the handheld market.
If you want a monopoly. I wasn't even intrested in portables tell psp.[QUOTE="Slashless"][QUOTE="commonfate"]I love it, but if we dump Microsoft we only lose the 360 and its little exclusives. If we eliminate Microsoft, we eliminate a good chunk of great games and also the world's biggest operating system.
If we eliminate Sony, we lose some great franchises and a wide selection of TV/cameras, etc.
If we get rid of Nintendo, we only lose a few iconic franchises. Nintendo is probably the best one to die.

Sony could leave any time, and I wouldn't notice or care.

It won't bring Sega back.
K, and? :?

Honestly the world be just fine without Sony products.
Their laptops / TVs are incredibly overrated anyway, and Sony hasn't been relevant in other areas since the Walkman.
