There is a Fad in gaming and no its not called Wii or DS its called PS3

PS3 saw insane spotlight for about a month. Wii is still in the spot light after more then half a year. PS3 after a month dropped off immensly in demand and popularity. A fad already occurred and ended and it was the PS3. 8 monthes is not a brief period. Your logic fails.

Hah, I was wondering when people would realize this.  The PS3 craze was a fad that lasted maybe a month.  My friends and I saw unsold PS3's around GA on Christmas eve (in small towns as well as Atlanta).  Funny stuff. 

 Now, on the subject of Street Fighter Anniversary Collection, they recently made it backwards compatible with the 360, didn't they?  That means that all functionality (online especially) will be available if you play on your 360, correct?

I might need to get my hands on this... I have 3rd Strike for the Dreamcast, excellent game.  One of the best fighting game soundtracks too.  I'm sure I'll get my ass handed to me online, but if I can get my 360-owning friends to pick up a copy for cheap, I can at least beat up on them :D

Now, though, ingenious post, bringing up a point that has never been addressed.  Good post, I take my hat off to you (if I was wearing a hat :P) 

To be honest it just seems like you're calling the PS3 a fad to ease the "Wii is a fad" bashing in SW.

I genuinely don't think the PS3 is a fad. It has a fantastic lineup in both late 2007 and all of 2008, so I do expect the PS3 to start doing very well in sales, when the games and a price drop comes later this year.

All these Wii is a fad threads are completly unjustified because in actuality the PS3 was the fad not the Wii. Nintendo has many problems and issues to overcome but the Wii being a fad is not one of them.

PS3 will be good. Its chillin in my brothers room and I plan on taking er um boring it frequently when Final Fantasy XIII comes out :twisted:

With 360 setting record sales in Austrailia of all things too if anything is to be considered a fad its the PS3. But in actuality none of the products on the market are fads. I'm just dealing blows to the fanboys like usual.

But I agree it doesn't have anything major till late 2007 and in 2008, which is why I haven't bought one yet.

Btw, 360 set the record in Australia for software but the hardware charts since PS3/Wii came out show both consoles closing the gap between them and the 360.

Anyone who thinks the PS3 is going to fail is obvoisly on something. It is by far one of the greatest pieces of technology I have ever used, trust me it will start to sell well. The only PS3 fad has been bashing it. That will probably end from all but the most insane fanboys by the end of this year.

Hmm what an interesting post. Let me clarify things for people.

1. The Wii is not a fad and neither is the PS3.

2. SF3 was one of the biggest flops of all time and didn't have a fraction of the success of its forebear. Some of the lamest characters ever combined with re-tread gameplay resulted in this game being tossed in the "hardcore closet".

3. HALO is the king of multiplayer FPS by a huge margin. Once again a few loud "hardcores" claim that Counterstrike is somehow bigger than HALO when its not. The internet doesn't come to a halt when somebody says "CS" it comes to a halt when people say "Halo". CS doesn't have vehicles and its fanbase is constantly shrinking not growing like Halo.

Now that things have been cleared up we can all go out and get some Ben and Jerry's DUBLIN MUDSLIDE. It's really good.

In two years that would technically be impossible at the current rate its user base is expanding.  

Well if anyone missed it nor the PS3 nor the Wii are fads but one could never consider the Wii being a fad unless they first considered the PS3 to be a fad that has already died out. Go back to bashing graphics or games something that is actually reasonable. The Wii is not a fad, so get used to it.
