'Some people say exclusives don't matter. But they do matter if you want to play it but can't because it's on another console.'Back in 2006 the Xbox360 had an amazing year with titles being released that would eventually go on to be ported to various other consoles. What would it have been like if these games stayed exclusive?2006 Viva Piniata2006 Dead Rising (2009 ported to Wii)2006 The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion (2007 ported to PS3)2006 Gears of War (2007 ported to PC)2006 Tom Clancy's Rainbow 6 Vegas (2007 ported to PS3)2006 Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advance Warfighter 2The trend of heavy hitting exclusives begins to dissapate by each year as third party developers choose not to risk making exclusive games for the Xbox360 or the Playstation 3 with the only offerings coming in the form of first and second party games on the two consoles.2009 Halo WarsThe game cube was similarly effected by this predicament last generation being treated to multiplatform games and a series of exclusive games that where then later ported to other platforms.Soul Calibour 2Prince of Persia: The Sands of TimePrince of Persia: The Warrior WithinConfict Desert StormBeyond Good and EvilSplinter Cell: Pandora TomorrowSplinter Cell: Chaos TheorySplinter Cell: Double AgentMedal of Honour seriesCall of DutyCall of Duty 2Timesplitters 2Tony Hawks Pro Skater seriesResident Evil 4 (originally planned as an exclusive)Viewtiful Joe (originally planned as an exclusive)Killer 7 (originally planned as an exclusive)To name just a fraction of Gamecube multiplatforms. The problem with the Gamecube was that developers did not want to risk developing exclusive games for The Gamecube as we are begining to see is the case with the Xbox360. This is not the case for the Nintendo Wii which has been making stride year after year gaining more and more exclusives from third parties as each year passes.2009 Little King Story2009 Punch Out!2009 Excitebots: Trick Racing2009 Boom Blox: Bash Party2009 Muramasa: Demon Blade2009 Deadly Creatures2009 Mad Word2009 Wii Sports Resort2009 Klonoa2009 Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles2009 The House of the Dead: Overkill2009 Cursed Mountain2009 Silent Hill: Shattered MemoriesSo as you can see, third party Xbox360 exclusives are being made multiplatform one by one, and third party exclusive development is drying up. It doesn't have a problem with multiplatform releases but then neither did Gamecube, and Playstation 3 does not seem to have the same problems as Xbox360 is having. Another three years down the road of this generation, it will be interesting to see what Microsoft will be able to do that will stear it back on course and make up for lost exclusives.
